that's fair. but, considering the unique nature of the service, you may want to reconsider.
the entire business model is predicated on constant syncing (whenever possible) so that your notes are available anywhere and anytime. it is cloud storage that is always on, accumulates over time, and has unlimited data transfers (you can download information as much as you want--you can even share it with the world).
in addition, you get constant software development (updated recently once or twice a month). it is also compatible with just about any major file type. no other note taking app has so many features on so many platforms.that kind of connectivity doesn't come free, and i'm happy to pay for it.
it's not perfect by any means, and it may not fit your use case. i would say it is a good deal, though, considering what you get.
So as a college student with a MBP what note taking app do you feel is best suited for me? I am going to bring my iPad to class to take notes. I can't seem to find a combo of apps to handle my school work.
There are lots of minor differences, but overall, I'd say the biggest one is the online/mobile experience: from clipping web pages to accessing your notes, everything is focused on syncing. Of course, you can use it offline, but you don't get to take advantage of all the features. With OneNote you buy into a primarily local file system. Syncing is possible, and increasingly powerful, but I think it pales in comparison to Evernote. Most of what you said is applicable for OneNote as well. The only advantage that I see with Evernote is that it's available for more devices, but I only use iOS and Windows so it's not really an issue for me. Again, I don't want to subscribe to Evernote just to have offline capabilities.
I think onenote does one and only thing better than Evernote -- fast access. So I found Onenote useful for making grocery lists. For everything else Evernote is superior.
fast access? i open my ipad, put my finger on the icon, and evernote is right there. i just timed it, and it took less than 5 seconds (from unlocking the ipad to viewing my note). how much faster is onenote?
onenote takes you right the way to the last note saved, Evernote requires 2 clicks. therefore onenote >> Evernote (speed wise>>).
I don't know how the OneNote app works (I seem to have misplaced my Windows Live ID), but as I recall, it does have one less step. Is it faster, though? I don't know. In Evernote I can see my last note as soon as I open the app, so that is the same. If I want to add something, though, I do have to press the pencil icon at the bottom, unless I left the note open.
Anyhow, assuming there is a one second difference, then you are saving time with OneNote! The cool thing for me is that I can pull out my computer, iPad, iPod, Macbook, or Android phone and view the note![]()
