I have to say, Microsof'ts marketing strategy is nasty, and I hate it.
They can never gain my business that way.
BUT, it does serve as a reminder of how Apple is continuously failing to revolutionize. All of these features introduced in cortana and android are a natural progression in the technology, that apple simply doesn't seem to be willing, or able to attain quickly enough. They just seem to be content where they're at.
The introduction of of any new technology, like Siri, will naturally draw fierce competition that is willing and able to outperform the status quo. Apple's current MO seems to be. 1) introduce "revolutionary" product/technology, 2) hang on to that unchanging idea, since it seems to be just good enough. 3) wait, while other developers one-up apple.
Apple seems to be riding purely on brand hype at the moment. Hence my quotes around "revolutionary." They're not truly revolutionizing anything, they simply have the exposure and followers to make it seem so.

These along with the MacBook Air vs. Surface ads are actually pretty nice. Microsoft devices would be my next choice if Apple didn't exist and they are seriously pretty nice, too bad they keep failing and scumbags like Samsung are more popular.

Samsung is really in your heads aren't they? Samsung advertising is so effective that it's all you guys can think about even when they're never mentioned in an ad or article.

Not so good

Look at this, guys.

You know it's bad when even Microsoft can make fun of you.

Actually, since getting my iPhone 6, Siri has been much better.

On my 4S I got "I'm really sorry about this, but I can't take any requests right now" like 4 out of 5 times so I just gave up. I've yet to have her fail since getting my new iPhone. If you are talking about functionality, however, Siri does seem to lag behind the competition. It's not a big deal to me because I only use voice recognition to set an alarm or send an occasional text, but others that make heavy use of it may want to seek other platforms.

Kudos to Microsoft for keeping Apple on its toes. Competition is what keeps the tech giants from getting complacent. :)

Yes, but I wonder if these ads resonate with Joe Public and making any sort of inroads for MS. For the most part, their cute and somewhat light hearted jabs, that may raise a few eyebrows, but not sure if they translate into sales.

In other words you don't have a life and you take insults to apple personally

do people actually use voice controls on any device? I hate voice controls on anything. in a car or on a phone. Find it easier to press a button with out everyone in the street hearing what I'm about to do. Every manufacture seems obsessed with getting voice controls working. I don't know if its actually catching on and if everyone really uses them?

Cortana in your Business

Wow, Cortina's speech technology does actually sound pretty impressive. Much less "robotic" sounding than either Siri or Google Now.

Then again, she sounds so "perky" that it'll probably get annoying after a while.

Imagine when she starts getting smart enough to browse your texts, and put life events together..

"Good morning Dave, based on text message analysis, your wife is cheating on you, but it's 72 degrees outside and sunny, you'll have a beautiful commute to work. The closest divorce attorney is 1.2 miles east of here."

Of all the slow-moving Apple tech, Siri is the one I'm most disappointed about. What has changed since iOS6? She does Sports?

Since it's a sevrer-based service, every question has made it to some server somewhere, and a team of Siri people should be sitting there teaching Siri how to answer each one correctly, and if they had been doing that for 2 years, we'd have a pretty decent conversation going with Siri. But we don't.

"Siri, when's my next alarm?"
"... Here are all of your alarms in a huge list"

"Siri, did it freeze last night"?
"I'm sorry, i don't do past weather"

"Siri, do I have any mail?"
"Here are some internet sites about "have any mail""

"Siri, what's..."
"Let me stop you right there... Just google it."

I find it quite useful when I'm driving... Useful for things like sending a text, playing a particular band or song, finding a place, etc etc. I also probably use it more for setting reminders than anything else (even when I'm not driving). I tend to forget things, so its nice to be able to just say "Remind me to do this or that at 8pm on Tuesday". That request would take me a lot longer to do manually by the time I write what I need to do, navigate a calendar and time etc.

The traffic alert does sound useful, but I don't really get the use of the reminders when someone calls or texts. I just have a list of reminders and assign times to get them done. Perhaps I'm doing it wrong?

SIRI does provide traffic alerts, at least I have seen them on occasion. If I have something on my calendar with the address included, it will warn me to leave early or tell me there is an accident etc. on my normal route. I'm not even sure what triggered these at first, but they have been useful to me.
