Other than the voice, what is wrong? Anything? If they were to use the right voice, would you still be complaining? Microsoft is using things that Siri can apparently not do to make their product look better.

Your "other than the voice" question is irrelevant. Moving the goal post doesn't address my point. It's just troll 101.

The ad presents an outdated, pre-natural language Siri and then compares it to its newest version of Cortana. It's misleading advertising. Which potentially opens them up to litigation.

However looking into this deeper, I believe MS may be able to get away with this stunt because both devices are reciting a script and not technically operating to spec.

So this could be a dramatic license loophole. Microsoft has a massive legal army, so I'm sure they've thoroughly vetted the tactic and protected themselves accordingly.

Still, it's a pretty sleazy ad in my opinion.

Not doubting you but I never use Siri around other people since I'd look like an idiot and be annoying. Only use it alone - mostly when driving.

No, I agree. I wouldn't use Siri in public either. But at least with Siri it got a lot of attention and media exposure. People generally know they have it on their iPhone. But Cortana is relatively unknown. Many people think voice assistants are native to Apple devices. These commercials will definitely keep Lumia and other Windows Phones on equal grounds in terms of on-demand information.

lol... classic ad...

I like this one...

Seriously, i wonder how much thought was actually put into this...

Is Siri really that stupid ?

ummm.. seems Apple must have changed in in iPhone 5s..

"in the cloud, no one cares what you look like"

Personally, i like this response better :D i'd give em credit for that...

Wow, Cortina's speech technology does actually sound pretty impressive. Much less "robotic" sounding than either Siri or Google Now.

I remember reading that the voice actor actually does record entire phrases as well and that it's constantly updated.

Sorry but if you need your phone to tell you to leave earlier due to traffic - you are an idiot.
Do you need your phone to tell you to change your toilet paper in the bathroom too?
talk about the need to be way to connected to fricking phone it's an phone not your mommy!

So, while we all are takin in by the cool tech over our head this can do, it basically is meaning, we are becoming stupid by the minute... since we need a phone to tell us this, or tell us that..

However, a phone that tells to to leave early because of traffic build up may be useful, but it really all depends, how much info we want a phone to tell?

So, ya i have an issue with it taking over our lives, which what it's doing, meanwhile users are blinded by the "cool" factor...

As time goes on, we loose the "logic" aspect... "Does this sound right?" Before we used to do it ourselves. but now it doesn't matter before we have Siri, or an alternative. even the most basic stuff, we'd just now rely on Siri, nor because its there, but because it's cool..

Before you know it, users will do everything by talking to your phone, and not even have to use their brain.

There's your logic. :p

Typical silly response when you have no points to back up. :p

Actually , I know the point you were trying to make, you just worded it wrong ;)

Fact is you cannot buy OS X to install on a PC ;) simple as that.

Was just a cheeky reply.

Have a good weekend .

Microsoft sure does make good ads.

Too bad their products rarely perform as well as they do in those ads.

It was cute but commercials that bash another product have never inspired me to buy their product.

And to add to that, notice how Microsoft focuses on very small things such as a voice assistant or a USB port? They know they have very little ammunition against Apple's excellent products so they focus on tiny things such as a USB port. Are they for real? :D

No they were not. They never attacked the users. Windows has been always known as an OS used for a business computer because Microsoft never advertises it otherwise. They focus on Office, they focus on enterprise and they focus on exchange server which is all about Work. Couple that with Windows primarily being used in the business world and not well known for being used in the music world or in the arts like the Mac has always been well known for. That's why Apple had the PC guy dressed in a suit. Blame Microsoft for that.

I guess you just fail to see the implied meaning in some things.

As I can see by the rest of the posts at the end of this thread. This thread is dead, time to unsub.

hardly any one has a Windows phone for Microsoft to show that is going head to head with Apple's iPhone is a joke.

After 2 months you still have to wait for an iphone 6. What about Windows phone?

While I'm an iPhone user, traffic makes a serious difference what time I leave my office to get to certain meetings. Atlanta traffic can be as different as the weather. Do I take 285 or 75/85? Is there a back up on 400? A ladder on 285?

Considering how messy Apple is at the moment, Windows is becoming more attractive again. If you already pay a premium for a device, you'd expect it to work flawlessly (and not to be as buggy as Yosemite or unfinished as iWork for iCloud for example).

The so called halo affect can work both ways. If you spend a lot of money to buy an iPhone and you have a bad experience chances are you won't come back again, but this does tend to take quite a while to filter it's way into falling sales. Personally I've not had many issues with my 5s so I'm happy to buy the iPhone 6 when I can get my hands on one.

I'm not so sure the majority of people would migrate back to Windows Phone given how bad Windows desktop has been over the years. If Google ever decided to seriously take on the desktop/laptop market I think Microsoft would be toast.

See, I am just fine with these commercials. They actually have a point and a reason behind it. If you want to bring a competitors product in a commercial you need to do it the correct way. This way, just like the I'm a Mac, I'm A PC adds, is the correct way to do it.

While the Samsung commercials, the ones I have an issue with, flat out try to make fun and belittle Apple fans. They don't even attempt to show why some of their features are useful, instead all they focus on is "Apple fans are sheep."

Right thats it, I'm sold.
Where can I pick up one of these little screen phones? </Sarcasm>

Fair play if it had been a brand relating to a worthwhile competitor (Android etc) ... but seriously, Microsoft and it windows phones?

I don't know enough to compare between the two services on any serious level, but all I know is that it's irritating to only be able to use the Hey Siri functionality when plugged in.

I just got an iphone6 plus, didn't know about Hey Siri and was disappointed to find that out :(
Even worse that you can jailbreak the and enable it to do it always.
ETA
Yeah I agree that a unique wake up would be best.

Siri is a complete waste. Being server-side makes any action takes precious seconds. If you're in a place without strong internet connection expect a proper failure. I'm wondering if they could make it fast as Google Now.

Never used Cortana. And let's be real. Nobody uses Windows Phones (joke).

Siri is not as advanced as Cortana in many areas. I don't think this is up for dispute. The question is does the average user care yet? I hope they do. I want these assistants to improve.

u nailed it! google now is getting pretty good actually. Even if users do care, does apple care? It's like they are happy to sit on there current competitive advantages and let things like siri fall behind.

I think if someone could really nail the personal assistant, like really nail it, I would switch.

What do sales numbers have to do with this?

If anything, this venture into personal assistants is showing us how hard it is to get it right. If either Cortana or Siri were a real assistant being asked for the things they are asked to do, any sane employer would Fire them. They just keep getting things wrong or are often not available. Net connectivity has a lot to do with that. On the other hand, they are getting better each year. Maybe in 10 years they will have real utility. For now, I find relatively little use for Siri because it is unreliable.
