No false advertising here, in the advert you can clearly see them continuing the call, i.e. the audio is still going.

Yeah, the call goes. The video stops, and it's hilarious how much the iPad guy and his boss freak out about it. W-w-w-what's happening, I CAN'T SEE YOUR FACE!

Did they not watch the WWDC keynote?

IOS7 won't have proper, multiwindow multitasking either.

----------

But the Ad is 100% correct and there is no denying it.

Rather than defending the crappy parts of iPad this points out, you people should be acknowledging it and pushing for change.

Thats the problem with Apple freaks, they just want to defend, never evolve. Apple tells them when to evolve.

Definitely agreed.

----------

What is "true multi-tasking"? iOS 7 only changes the app switcher to be more convenient, nothing more.

Exactly. Proper multitasking would be windowing, at least on the large-screen iPad. IOS7 wont have it either, unlike WinRT/8 and, as rumoured, Android 5.

Yes. He, iGrip, and lilo are on my "ignore as spam" list. Not only is he only here to annoy people, but almost nothing he says ever makes sense (as opposed to people here who make smart arguments that make sense but are meant to target certain people), and he talks like a 10-year-old. I don't think he even uses any Apple products, which isn't a good sign for someone on an Apple forum.

One of his baiting methods appears to be taking something that someone says against him and repeating it in other context until it annoys everyone.

Oh excellent, you've learned fast. Those 3 are in the same club and they are all on my ignore list as well.

What does the return video look like though...

As I'm watching this video, I see this guy searching around, on the device, while video chatting with a small "window" in the corner of the screen. only problem with this, is the front facing camera. What does it look like on the other end, as your looking off into nothing touching away on your device. I'd say its a feature, that the other person can't see you while your using other apps, and they could always use there iPhone. When was the last time you saw a baseball scout without a smart phone. i could see it, but unlikely... Microsoft is doing one hell of a job at turd polishing though, still can't get that Surface remix out of my head... now if only RT was usable... but there in lays the rub, if Microsoft spent more money on hardware, they'd have less for marketing, and than who would they be, samsung? My point is this, I'm sure this is a great feature, BUT, there is no way a baseball scout, someone who spends large quantities of time away from wall sockets, would want to carry around something heavier with shorter battery life, and i'm pretty sure any RT tablet would glitch out and freeze with that much processing so... Maybe next generation, but than again maybe this is future and this guy just hasn't upgraded his iPad yet... Microsoft, stop selling the future, you need products not promises...

This ad doesn't prove the windows tablet is better than the iPad at all, all the proves is that the scout with the iPad is the worst scout ever.

1. The Widows 8 scout had the info prepared, the iPad scout had to go look for it, thus making it seem like longer, plus the iPad scout was noticeably clumsy about it

2. The iPad scout has no idea on how to use an iPad, you see him swiping at his screen randomly at one point, he could have easily used multitasking to go between the apps

3. Just because you can't see the other person, doesn't mean you can't talk to them and give them the info, there was no need for him to panic because they lost visual.

This ad does not prove that windows tablet is better that the iPad in anyway shape or form. All it proves is that the scout with the windows tablet is a better and smarter scout, while the iPad scout is a moron and if he cant use his equipment properly, he should use it for his job in the first place. All this add proves is that that company need to fire that scout.

This ad proves that showing an iPad with an Apple logo makes your eyes go straight to it.

I love this new Microsoft... they show the iPad just as much as Apple ads do!

He can even upgrade the iPad to iOS7 - still won't have proper (multiwindow / pane) multitasking. Unlike WinRT - or, for that matter, the rumoured Android 5 just about to be announced.

I doubt this will blow the tumbleweed away from the Surface tablet.
It is almost sad seeing MS so bitter...., but only almost:)

You summed it up right. About a score years ago, there was a bunch of tablet start-ups. Momenta, Slate, PenWare, Go and GRiD coming out with the first generation of tablets. Then called Pen Computers. There was the infamous never released PenMac that is a primo collector item today. Microsoft didn't jump in. A half score years later out came the Pen Enabled Windows machines. It tanked. They got gun shy. Out comes the iPad that finally got it right. Sure there was a good talk between Jobs and Gates after that launch. Microsoft had no response. They flubbed at Vista, fixed it and called it 7. One more tablet try with Windows 8 -- a classic day late and dollar short. Just give it up and fix this crap and have Windows 9 out next year on $200 laptops.

I'm going to give credit to Microsoft picking out one of the few actual iOS issues. The sports scouting example may not really make sense, but I've had many calls with my parents that caused them moments of complete confusion whenever I had to look something up and the video turned off. It doesn't help that Skype calls tend to cut out on their own.

The ad is absolutely correct. You can, indeed, do two things at once with a Windows 8 tablet. High five.

What I'm saying is... that might not be as big a feature as you think it is.

Apple has sold over 100 million iPads that don't have "proper multitasking"

Are we to believe there are tons of people who are saying "OMG it's finally here! The tablet I can run two apps side-by-side!!!!"

Or... you can ask it in another way:

Was the iPad a failure this whole time because it couldn't run two apps side-by-side?

Because I certainly didn't notice that...

These ads
1. they are seriously lame
2. they make me not ever want to buy a microsoft thing
3. if i would have a microsoft thing, they would make me ashamed to have people know that i own one
4. they make me think i must be a loser to be the typical owner

There is a lot more to a tablet than "just" windowing. Unfortunately, current WinRT devices are pretty bad when it comes to pure hardware (e.g., screen resolution) or third-party apps - no wonder they don't really sell. (Because of the low screen res, I, while love windowing, wouldn't purchase it either.). Nevertheless, this dual-window "snap" mode is absolutely excellent. Shame on Apple for not providing us with something similar.

So you're argument is you need both an iPad and iPhone to do what a Windows 8 tablet does? That's quite impractical.

Look, it's a commercial. Do all commercials have to be realistic and true to the world? I guess that's why those Apple Genus commercials were so great. They found people to play stupid people so accurately and insulted Apple's customers in the process. (I'm being sarcastic)

The reality is Windows 8 tablet devices are essentially a beta product. They're not fully baked, similar to how the iPad first came out. Remember when the first iPad came out? It used iPhone apps for the most part, and lacked a lot of the features seen today. The iPad did not really become a fully ubiquitous product until they added Retina to it, and half the reason why it reached critical mass was the discounted price of the iPad2. Microsoft is big enough of a company that they could handle the current sales for several quarters. Windows 8.1 is better than 8, and I fully expect Windows 8.2 to be better than 8.1 because they'll finally have a fully touch based Office suite. The problem is they might be too late to the market to matter.

I hope they succeed at producing a viable product, because in the end of the day, competition is always good for consumers. Apple innovates, but sometimes they do suborn things for the sake of design and not for the sake of functionality. Good competition drives the cost down for consumers, and promotes innovation for all parties. For example, without competition from Amazon, there would be no iPad mini. Without competition from Samsung, the iPhone 5 would still have a smaller screen.

Great ad. Really shows off the ineptitude of iOS. Can't stop laughing at the fanboys here defending iOS. Defense force for everything I guess.

So the iPad cannot check the box next to "run two apps side-by-side" on its list of features.

But surely there's something else the iPad can do well...

First it was named after a feminine product.

Then it was "just a big iPod Touch"

Now it can't even run two apps at the same time.

Woowoo... next stop... Failsville!

Amiright? :D

yes iOS starts and stops apps. Beautiful apps. iOS itself is the weak link, it should be able to do a lot more (multitasking, sharing, apps running in the background to name a few). However in order to keep all mums and dads on board, Apple won't allow too many features in iOS.

Fanboys are a bit annoying...

I have an IPad, and iOS is behind other platforms in terms of overall functions usability, and available APIs for devs. Sorry, it is.. But with that said, "It's all about the apps". And iOS apps themselves are still a bit more plentiful and polished.

You say it's all about the apps but you don't sound like you mean it

I'll say it with All caps

IT'S ALL ABOUT THE APPS

Using the term fanboy is annoying

Not to mention I'm pretty sure you switch from Facetime and the audio keeps going just fine (as long as you arent trying to play or record audio) which would make the ad false advertising

I wonder if they are hoping to get sued/counter marketed/stir up an arguement publicly. It would mean people publicly making comparisons of Win 8 tablets to iOS and possibly cheap/free advertising for MS. Doesn't really matter if they are right or wrong as long as fanboys/journalists/competitors are using iOS and Win 8 in the same sentences!

Exactly this is what I've spoken about. WinRT is pretty much handicapped ATM (low-res screens etc.). However, the snap mode is absolutely excellent and it's a pity Apple doesn't want to implement something similar. There would indeed be a need for windowed mode - see the numerous split-screen apps in AppStore and also the success of Quasar.

Agreed. Multiwindow would be essential and is frequently asked for by many iOS users (see the popularity of split-screen AppStore apps). Shame Apple don't seem to want to implement it.

I have an iPhone and an iPad. I have lots of apps, and you need apps on iOS to make use of it.

However, this all started with a major limitation of iOS. It's actually about the lack of flash. The reason why Apple has to have apps is you can't really do much with Safari on iOS. That's why you needs apps for essentially everything. Like you need a one time use national history museum app for a self guided tour because their browser version does not work on the iPad or iPhone. You have free game apps because free flash based games don't work on safari. Having a lot of apps is kind of a false sense of security, especially when you look at the number of fart apps out there.
