I'm still trying to understand how Microsoft can keep running these hit pieces and Apple still plans on switching the default search in it's devices to Microsoft Bing.

Why can't advertisers understand that people don't like negative ads. Highlight the strengths of your product but don't add in rancor and bitterness. That just makes the product and the company look bad. No wonder nobody wants one of their tablets.

Microsoft

THATS WEAK....
Siri is doing ALL the talking.... so you're making Apple more glorious coz I find Siri super funny here.

THANK.YOU!

I cracked up! This ad reminds me how funny and coy Siri is! Talk about unintended impact.

I just asked Siri: "What do you think of Microsoft?"
She typed: "I think Different"
But actually said "I think Different-ly"

I'm probably in the minority but I actually like the surface and yes, I'm an Apple fanboy. But it's really the clean interface that draws me in a bit, it's intriguing in once you get it you get it and most the things you want are right there at your fingertips. Honestly Windows 8 and it's tablet equivalent are the first original things Microsoft has done in... uh, probably ever as they've not usually an original idea in their vacuous collective heads and in the past every single thing was a ripoff, mostly from Apple. But their OS is in fact different as opposed to Android and the other as ran blatant iOS ripoffs, for that they seriously deserve some credit... and I can't believe I'm actually typing that but it's true.

This said I've an iPad 1 and a iPad Mini 1 and they connect with my family's Mac eco system exceedingly well, it's not like I'll be running off to buy a Surface any time soon. I'm just saying, these aren't that bad to counter those maybe hating on them instantly for being Microsoft, which is still understandable reaction considering their track record.

iPad = hundreds of thousands of apps and a (almost) perfect eco system
Surface = Low install base, not many apps, poor Windows 8 RT OS and almost essential keyboard. Played with my mates Surface Pro last week and it's total rubbish, USB port or not ;)

EDIT: That being said, £279 is an extremely strong price point for the build quality!

Well the 32gb surface only has around 16 gigabytes of actual usable storage, on top of that you need to add 120$ for the keyboard cover...

This commercial gave me a good laugh. But I don't see how it convinces me that surface is better than iPad.

1.) There are many accessories that works as a stand and a cover at the same time at the 2-3 times less than the Surface cover-keyboard.
2.) You can use micro USB with iPad if you have a adapter.
3.) Nice try selling those 120$ touch cover with a little barely visible text that says that it is not included.

They should have started with that price.

But MS, in my opinion, has an upward battle. They have to prove themselves with their products. Something Apple doesn't have to do (as much).

Conversely - Apple takes a lot of heat if/when they don't deliver as expected whereas MS people just say - yeah - ok.

this ad is awesome. funny, creative, and pokes the beast.

if microsoft wants to target apple, they should use the tag line "it doesnt take a genius to use our products"

anyways, good ad for a product which is finally in the right price tier.

Desperate!
This add is complete misinformation.....misleading... Surprised they can get away it!

The accessories are not included in surface price.

Same accessories in much bigger variety available for iPad!
Including usb/hdmi/sim adaptor!

Microsoft is becoming as low life if not more.. Than Samsung !

so you hated the "mac vs pc" ads?

This ad has convinced me....

I'm going to get a Logitech Ultrathin magnetic keyboard cover. Probably the red one. (This is the product Microsoft ripped off when they "invented" the idea of adding a keyboard to Apple's Smart Cover. Granted, you have to recharge the Logitech every few months.)

Gotta love the baseball ad where both users (Windows and iPad) switch apps equally easily (yes, even the "multitasking" Microsoft user had to switch, because the mini-sidebar spreadsheet wasn't usable) but the iPad user misses the deal because he couldn't figure out how to use his own Numbers spreadsheet when it came up. Showed him circling his finger stupidly, while the Microsoft user was quick and knew what to do. Not sure what that proves.... They do mention that the FaceTime caller on the other end loses picture when the iPad user switches apps, and then has only audio for a moment. True enough. Not sure how that relates to the slowness of the iPad user and the quickness of the Microsoft user. And both devices were clearly shown multitasking, while the voiceover falsely said the iPad can't... Hmmm....

MS had a good advertising plan when the surface came out, but the cost was just too high.

Now...anyone looking for a pad, just for emailing/surfing and use like an extention of their PC. Then they have the pricing right for that crowd.

Not sure if this price cut will help them now, but this is closer to the wha the introductory cost should have been.

The not so puzzling thing is that they STILL can't sell them even at give away prices. cause they suck.

That was..

That was really funny actually, I laughed good.. "Oh - snap..." Too funny. I love funny ads so much.

^_^

Essentially these ads are trying to show that the surface is like a netbook.

What happened to the netbook market once the iPad was released?

"Oh dear, I need a little help here," says Siri as the Surface is propped up with its included kickstand. "I'm sorry, I don't have a USB port," Siri continues, before lamenting about the Surface keyboard. "Oh snap, you have a real keyboard too?"

This ad is misleading at best, and borders on false advertising.

The surface DOES NOT COME WITH A KEYBOARD. It even says so on the ad in small print, "keyboard sold separately."

Uh, well gee-- if we're talking about things that are sold separately, doesn't the Smart Cover function as a kickstand?

And oh boy! I can get real keyboards for my iPad too!

They compare it to the 32gb IPad when it really has less space than the 16gb idevice

Here’s how much storage you have available out of the box:
Surface RT
The 32 GB Surface RT has approximately 15 GB storage available for user content
The 64 GB Surface RT has approximately 45 GB storage available for user content
(From Microsoft website)

And the pro surface needs 28gb for the system
That's really low they would falsely advertise that as equal to the iPad just to compare to a 100 dollar more expensive product
