ms office IS used by most out there and to do reasonable business w them, one needs to be able to create documents that are compatible. until apple has something better than ms office, it should understand this need...i hesitate on a 2gen ipad because it's worthless if people come back to me and say they couldn't work w my iwork documents

I prefer Keynote over PowerPoint, but for word processing I still prefer MS Word, and you just can't beat Excel as a spreadsheet workhorse in my opinion.

That pretty much sums up my thoughts.

I guess it very much depends on individual's needs though.

The thing is, that (take pages as an example) It might in fact do 100% of what I do with Word (and would thus fulfill my needs), but I do not know how to use the program.

In some cases Apple's "Our products are so simple you do not need a manual" -policy backfires. Especially in those cases where a software package is inherently so complex you can't undo the learning curve incline with usability design.

I would probably have had a bad time learning Aperture if it hadn't been for the paper manual I got (v. 1.5).

Stupid program STILL makes me enter my product key every time I use it. For the love of all that's holy, I PAID for it, I OWN it, leave me the eff ALONE!

I just wish it would stop asking me to enter my product key every time I use it. I've only used it three times, and each time, I have to dig out the box and type in that key. WTF?

Apparently this isn't the case with a pirated copy.

Apparently.

This started happening to me a few weeks ago.
It seemed to be right after MS started offering a full trial download that you could use and then buy a product key if you liked it.
Apparently, this might have introduced a glitch into the process of checking for activated copies that happens when you use the product.
Maybe it's a bug that corrupts the info about the product key on your hard drive.
Perhaps denying the program access to the internet might solve the problem if it can't check its status.
Whatever it is, it's not an isolated incident.
We all need to let MS know about the problem.

Office for Mac 2011 - Now guaranteed to suck just a little bit less.

Ah, you must have used Office 2011 for mac alot! Or just used a previous version and then judged this one entirely on what you think of MS and previous versions of Office for Mac? Really, grow up. It's not funny, nor cool. Try the app before you judge it.

When iWorks matures Office will look like hog s*** on a stick.
Has anyone used iworks fir iPad? freaking amazing.

It's had plenty of time to mature.

Man...
Today I found out that Microsoft messenger had finally got A/V chat support with the release of Microsoft Office 2011.
But...seriously? 7 years later!? forget it. I've got skype n ichat, thank you.
Oh, and iwork has replaced MS Office a long time ago

It really has not. For you, maybe, but for most users iWork holds very little against Office 2011.

This is a hard core Apple forum so don't bother. No one will ever admit that anything that Microsoft produces is anywhere near of being OK, let alone good. It's just the status quo here. Just remember there will be the inevitable Pavlov reaction every time you mention Microsoft and you'll be fine. I learned a lot here.

I'll be the first to admit that I use Office and prefer it. Until the corporate world/federal government switches to Mac, M$ Office will be the overall preferred productivity suite for the majority of people (even those with Mac's).
