People are happy with what they've got for the money they pay.

Downright ecstatic I'd say, based on that, what, 50% switcher rate at the Apple Stores? :p

The Microsoft Empire is starting to crumble. It's a slow crumble to be sure, but it's begun nonetheless.

Meanwhile, the Windows zealots proclaim "All is well!" :D

Whatever gets you through the day. Sadly, it's people like you who give the Mac community such a vile reputation in the wider world.

And sadly it's your "non-Windows users are ignorant; Windows problems are clearly user error" attitude that will be the eventual end of Redmond. Particularly when the vast majority of Mac users know far more about Windows than any Windows zealot dares admit.

Vile reputation indeed...

If so, Microsoft has nothing to worry about.

and yet Microsoft is doing these ads. ads which try to take shots at Apple computers as being overpriced (which is the only major complaint heard around the world about them, compared to all the various complaints about Windows which Apple has played on with the 'i'm a mac' ads). if they were not worried, why bother with the ads.

Judging by the dropping consumer satisfaction rates for PC companies, they sure ain't happy. :p

This doesn't even include those who have succumbed to the realization, and have grown to accept that a mediocre to miserable user experience is indeed a satisfactory one when dealing with PCs.

Which would explain the hits you get when you do an Internet search for 'Apple "idiot bar"'.

Apparently, some people don't believe that Apple really hires "geniuses" to sit behind the counter....

At least they proactively offer assistance and persist in resolving issues, varying levels of competence notwithstanding. Last time I checked, 50% of all med school students graduate at the bottom half of their class.

Well... A) Dissatisfaction with the system (Vista) probably rubs off on users' feelings about the hardware, and B) People go dumpster diving for cheaper and cheaper netbooks and other low-end junk - i.e. they're asking for trouble. If you sample Toyota customer satisfaction you're going to get one result for the group that bought a $12,000 Yaris and a completely different result for the group that bought the $64,000 Highlander. A brand that only sells high-end premium goods will have a higher average rating, obviously.

Those who buy $2000+ HPs, Lenovos, Dells etc are probably just as satisfied with those machines as they were with the $2000+ ones they bought 5 years ago.

It's not hard to find a quality PC... just check what a Mac costs, knock 20% off that and you have a good target price. If you buy one for half of what the Mac costs, you're on your own.

Yeah, the Mac's 3.36% marketshare worldwide is an indication that Microsoft will crumble to dust any minute now.

I think I would take Dell's trade, 10% less consumer satisfaction for many more sales.

Oh you mean Dell the struggling company, the wish they could be making the money Apple is making, what innovative products have the brougt out recently besides the same old tired PC crap, oh I forgot their recent Macbook Air copycat was nice. :p

Comparing Apple's profits to Dell's, I think I'd take Apple's position.

Selling fewer things yet making more money doing it seems to be the better business position, IMO. :D

Why don't you ask him how much money Dell is making of all those sales and how much they have in the bank, they wish they were in Apple's position, take a look at their stock prices, lol.

You must not get out much if you actually believe the crap you wrote.

Yeah keep the excuses coming.

With Microsoft's falling sales and profits, and layoffs, they should be worried.

Not really. The employees sure, but at absolute worst MS will just downsize a few thousand employees. Its nowhere near dying.

I can't believe people are still arguing about this whole Mac/Windows controversy. I was beginning to think that there was nothing more to talk about. The Mac people believe that mac is the best, while the windows people believe their system is the best. Neither party can convince the other. The fight goes on and on and on....

I got kind of tired of it.

Gee, I suppose those really effective adverts were unable to save the day after all...

Yes, this mentality seems to reveal the true essence of those adverts.

The Laptop Hunters ads? Umm... the results were for January 1-March 31. The first ad (Lauren) premiered on March 26. You... expected the ads to turn everything around in 5 days?

Their two flagship products (Windows and Office) haven't been updated in over 2 years, everyone's holding out for Windows 7 and Office 2010. XP is being moved out of mainstream support, which means that the 85% or so of the enterprise customers who skipped Vista will be compelled to move to Win7.

You... expected the ads to turn everything around in 5 days?

Yes, because the earth shattering, breakthrough revelation that cheap Windows laptops are cheap is going to stop the Mac switchers in their tracks and make them come crawling back to Windows-based misery! *snicker*

Uh huh. "Everyone's" breathless anticipation is palpable.

Um...why?

I think enterprise is starting to realize the return on investment from years of pumping cash into Microsoft software upgrades hit zero a long time ago. Office 2003 is more than sufficient for most businesses (heck, Office 97 is sufficient for most businesses), and all Windows 7 does is (supposedly) fix the Vista mess. A mess many businesses were smart enough to avoid stepping in to begin with.

The glory days of Microsoft's iron grip on enterprise (and computing in general) are now behind them. But keep your chin up, there's always the ZUUUUNNNNEEEE!!!

No, I was more referring to the two Seinfeld and "I'm a PC" ads, but sure, what the hell - we're sure to find out in August what great benefits they have reaped from them.

XP is being moved out of mainstream support, which means that the 85% or so of the enterprise customers who skipped Vista will be compelled to move to Win7. Revenue down 6% in this climate is nothing; Logitech just posted a 32% drop in sales and a net loss of $35 million, after countless consecutive quarters of gains.
Many companies will be holding on to XP, nonetheless. The largest increase MS will see, though, is that of, ironically, it's greatest source of erosion in marketshare - pirated Windows. More so, if the "Laptop Hunters" ads were to be broadcast internationally, this would direct even more fuel toward this growth - get it for cheap - cheap is good.

No, they're not. So why are you insinuating that I think they will?

Uh huh. "Everyone's" breathless anticipation is palpable.
Oh, right, you're that sarcasm bot on a sugar rush. Have fun.

.....but - but.... they give you $1500 to buy a laptop, and you get to keep it. I suppose I could wait in line for an opportunity like that... who do I call to sign up?

Uh huh. "Everyone's" breathless anticipation is palpable.
There'll be lines wrapped around the Apple stores..... oh, that was for Leopard, sorry.

More ribbons, eh? Pretty sad when Word 2004 remains more responsive that its even more convoluted successor.

I hear it will have an FM radio tuner - that'll be a real game changer. ....coming to a Walmart near you.

Better than Geek Squad—wait, I meant Dork Squad...:D

So much for charging you a fortune to 'optimize' your computer. I've never heard a good thing about them...

Yeah, the Mac's 3.36% marketshare worldwide is an indication that Microsoft will crumble to dust any minute now.

Well depends on how much of that 96% MS market share is pirated... (i.e. people who think it's not worth it)

BTW where did you get that 3.36%? Net Applications shows 9.77% for market share online worldwide....
Damn, its a shame to see anyone lose a job right now. Not that cutting sales people isn't expected from apple, jobs is notorious for not thinking highly of the whole segment.
... or notorious of firing people in lifts...

Erm excuse me? I thought Microsoft Office gets a reiteration every 4 years... (Office 03, 07 and Office:mac 04, 08, even though there was a 2002 (XP), but that was sorta the exception..)

Regardless I still vastly prefer Office:mac 08 over Office 07 due to the fact that it added ribbons on top instead of completely replacing the user interface paradigm.

I hear it will have an FM radio tuner - that'll be a real game changer. ....coming to a Walmart near you.

Yeah.. that is ironic... be4 Jobs' return Macs were the ones sold at Walmart...

Which makes Apple's inclusion of Exchange support in SL quite ironic...

Well although I see the point of the MS ads they've not really had the intended affect on me given that I just bought a new unibody Macbook at lunchtime.

Basically it cvmes down to what you want - I have a Quad Core Vista x64 box for heavy lifting, now I have a sleek, stable and user friendly laptop for general use.

You can't beat the best of both worlds. :)
