Still haven't fixed Spaces support?
Apple made a bunch of updates to its window manager in 10.5.7, which makes some great improvements in Spaces support for Carbon apps like Office. Make sure you've got the latest-and-greatest version of Leopard and see whether you've still got issues with Spaces.

Are they writing the new Office for Mac in Cocoa? Any ETA on the release?
Moving to Cocoa is part of our plan, yes. Messenger is already there, and we're moving the rest of Office in that direction.
I don't have exact release dates to share yet. Messenger 8 will hit public beta this year. Entourage for Web Services (for which we did a public beta earlier this year) will be released soon.
We're planning on a 2-3 year release cycle for the next version of Office. We've been working hard on it, with the occasional break for Macworld and WWDC. So since Office 2008 came out at Macworld 2008, I'll leave it as an exercise for the reader to come up with potential release dates.

Not sure if anyone can help me out but for some reason every time I try to install the update, either through the autoupdate or manually downloading it, the installer tell me I cannot install the update on my HD because there is no copy of the software on that disk. I am on a MBA and only have the one main drive. Any ideas?
Issues with updating the app are usually one of the following:
1. You have moved your Office installation out of the Applications folder. If you've done this, you can move it back to Applications, and try to run the update again.
2. You have manually deleted something from your Office installation. If you have done this, you're going to have to uninstall Office (use the uninstall app, don't just delete it) and then reinstall Office. When you reinstall Office, make sure that you do a custom install so that you only install the pieces you need.
3. You have run an application like Xslimmer or Monolingual. If you have done this, you're going to have to uninstall Office and reinstall it.
4. You used an invalid product key. You'll need to get a valid product key (this is the number printed on the Office DVD sleeve) and enter that into Office. To delete the product key that you're currently using in Office, delete the following files:
/Users/[username]/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Office 2008/Microsoft Office 2008 settings.plist
/Applications/Microsoft Office 2008/Office/OfficePID.plist
Then, when you try to open any of the Office apps, you'll be prompted to enter your product key.
