Okay, this has my attention. I'm already seriously considering windows phone (and feeling dirty about it) but this smartwatch could be really nice.

On the other hand, I have yet to see a company continue to support their products as well as apple. My iphone still gets updates and access to tons of apps. Windows mobile has yet to convince me microsoft will back their product. Hence, no sale on that watch.

yay~ Office on the go!

Does it come with a full-size keyboard and support USB 3.0? I want to replace it with my desktop! :p

The perfect rival of the Surface (in the battle of lower-price-lower-sales).

Blue screen of death watch!

haha, i was gonna make a joke about that.. :p

Honestly, if apple announced they were working on a magical iBrick these other companies would start developing one as well.

What do you know about the iBrick? Such a large and hefty device would have a lot of processing power, or maybe a mirror and projector so it can display on a wall without needing to be placed a distance from it. I'm very interested in iBrick.

"Microsoft" lets wait...

I believe Micorsoft is saying like most of the electronic companies, lets wait for Apple so we can do something similar

I don't think any major Apple competitor dares bring a watch to market ahead of Apple. They will all keep the prototype loosely defined, see what Apple brings, benchmark it, then try to one up the Apple product as fast as possible. Sammy did this with their smart phone line and it has proven to work well so expect to see everyone go in that direction.

For me, I hope Apples watch is more passive than active and does not try to look like the traditional watch as we currently think of it, something like... if its not in use its just a slick monolithic band of some sort, but when activated it blows the user away with available information accumulated in a inactive state.

When did Apple announce they were working on a smart watch and when did they start prototype testing?

----------

Sad that so many companies are trying to kill rumored Apple products now.

Some companies actually sell smart watches now. How is that trying to kill something that Apple hasn't even announced?

----------

If I can use an iWatch from Apple, which the Apple products is what I support and LOVE using because they are actually productive for me, but that's besides the point, I'd use iWatch mostly when I go mountain biking and/or weight training. That way I'm not having to deal with my iPhone 4S to track whatever I need to track like reps or distance and speed. It's all on my iWatch. Other than that, I may wear it casually, but I've got myself a nice belt iPhone/Wallet that works sooo well. Speaking of wearing things, have you noticed that there are MORE Apple users who have an Apple logo sticker plastered on their car than window fan users? I have NOT seen ONE window's sticker but more Apple stickers. Mmmm.

I wouldn't put anyone's product sticker on my car.

----------

For example, spaceships.

Now your talkin'!!

----------

They might be perfect for the watch, but if all holds true, Microsoft doesn't care what the customer wants or thinks is perfect.

Neither does Apple. Apple gives the customer what Apple wants them to have.

----------

Damn smart watches better be water resistant. Would not want to destroy my device while washing my hands, or forgetting to take it off before washing the dishes.

Agreed.

Have not worn a wrist watch in years, don't need one with a smart phone. Unless the 'smart-watch' has some new feature we don't know about I don't see why most people would need one.

Something like an armband might be more use, with a much bigger screen and allow 'hands free' operation.

I rank people who put those Apple stickers on their bumpers slightly ahead of people who use an Apple logo wallpaper on their Apple branded computer. Those people are about the biggest dorks on the face of the earth.

"I'm showing the world that I'm using an Apple by putting a wallpaper with an Apple logo on it so everyone will know I'm using an Apple while I use my Apple no matter if they're looking at me from the front or the back of my Apple".

YEAH OKAY!

One day, I'm gonna build a Hackintosh. And when I do, I'm gonna do this...

Redmond start your photocopiers

Kinda funny because they started this idea back in 2004.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smart_Personal_Objects_Technology

The technology back then was of course limiting.

And look at iOS 7 starting to move to "flat" and removing the gloss and skeuomorphism something that Windows Phone 7 started in October 2010, almost three years ago. Of course, when Apple does the "flat" thing it's only because it's "natural". I hate to tell you this, but that was almost 3 years ago.

Why would I want a watch that shows the date taking a significantly larger amount of area than the time?

It's a mock-up made by fortune.com. It's not very apparent based on the picture used. You can see the faint wording "PHOTO ILLUSTRATION: FORTUNE.COM"

If you look at any of the lockscreen on Windows 8, then you will know the time is front and foremost. In fact, the lockscreen on Windows 8 shows a gigantic clock. Windows 8 lockscreen: http://onetechcomputers.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/Lock-Screen.jpg

Its a race...

However, its still a calculator watch :)

Why do you have an Apple attached to your PC ?

How the hell can you watch movies on such a tiny screen... A shuffle is bigger.

In no way is this an Apple related post. WTF, unless Apple are scared by other people innovationing (yes I know that is wrong spelling)

I see a ton of potential for the smart watch form factor, more so if it has finger print reading, and is waterproof. I don't see it as a stand alone device for most functions, but it could be for some. It would make a great remote for nearly everything. Remote car starting, remote camera trigger, Phillips hue, craftsman garage door openers, iTunes/airplay remote, FaceTime like Dick Tracey, track the location/proximity of offspring and alert if they wander too far, Geo reminders/alerts, telling time, fingerprint door locks, glowing thingy to spin in circles with at raves (and record how fast you spin and how long you last before you fall down), wrist siri, bicycle beacon, bling, underwater camera, shower music, keynote remote, alarm that knows if you actually got up, wrist GPS (more handy for walking and biking/motorcycling), phone locator, pedonikefitnesshealth stuff.

In watch form a lot of the functions that work well on smart phones would work just as nicely, or nicer.
