..

Wow, just seeing how fast people are posting on here about a MICROSOFT product, makes me realize how impossible it will be to keep up with forum posts during Steve's keynote on the 11th.

The page was blank, but I found this in the source code (in the META description):

microsoft.com said:
Surface is the first commercially available surface computer from Microsoft Corp. It turns an ordinary tabletop into a vibrant, interactive surface. The product provides effortless interaction with digital content through natural gestures, touch and physical objects. In essence, it’s a surface that comes to life for exploring, learning, sharing, creating, buying and much more. Soon to be available in restaurants, hotels, retail and public entertainment venues, this experience will transform the way people shop, dine, entertain and live.

"A new way that isn't new at all"

Damn straight, that's just multi-touch rebranded. New and revolutionary my ass.

Omg!

I've been LMAO all night reading your replies!!:D

ok... now where is this new thinging from MS? I'm curious enough to know but not to search for it... can someone post a link once they post up the new release?:D

In all seriousness, I agree. As I was reading s10's post about a touch screen, I was thinking, he would most likely swoon over this device if was release by Apple. But no, it was released by MS, so it must be useless crap.

Well, the problem is that MS's recent history has them massively trying to build up hype for their product launches that don't live up in any way to the hype.

They set up this Origami thing as this big mysterious thing, unveiled these viral "leaked" marketing videos that made it appear to be some amazing new device, etc..... and it turned out to just be the UMPC, a product that isn't particularly exciting and hasn't really caught on, because it's market isn't clear....... that is, people who actually need to run Windows on a large slate/PDA-like device.

And of course you have the Zune hype, where everyone was getting all excited because there was this revolutionary new iPod killer coming from MS; and in that case, the problem is that the Zune basically was just too much like the iPod; rather than shattering the iPod mold, MS released a device that is mostly like an imitation of it (outside of the wifi 3-song/3-play sharing feature which got a general "meh" reaction).

The funny thing is, when Apple was unveiling the iPhone, and in particular showing the iPod aspects of it; the new interface, the coverflow, the flicking controls, etc....... that reminded me why people anticipate Apple announcements but don't anticipate MS announcements. MS, for various reasons, would not release a product like the iPhone (and I'm just talking about the music and video playing part). MS's instinct is to imitate, for the most part, and that is why you see the Zune turning out like it has.
