Depending on the return policy I might buy one to see if it works for my needs. Looks like it has some promise, and the fact that there is an iOS app gives it some promise.

Ironic that MS will probably sell many more of these to iOS users than Windows Phone users...

Now where do I wear it? I have a nice dress watch on one wrist, and a RoadID on the other. I can put it on the watch wrist, but not if I want to wear it 24/7.

It will probably be 14 days going by their return policy.

Can't send heartbeats to each other.

Deal Breaker!

And you can't draw a fish and send it either. :D

Not exactly.

But at least they aren't wasting their time putting the photos app on a watch.

I'd rather a smart watch be good at a few key things that a watch is good for rather than try to stuff it with all the apps on your phone.

I'm interested to see how this turns out.

How is it "wasting their time" to have a Photos app? Photos on a smartwatch is one of those "not necessary, but weird if it lacked it" things - especially considering you'd want to load up wallpapers and save images sent via text. And yes, some might use it like a locket just to view memories. Why not?

This looks like a much better wrist device than the apple watch. I've got a zillion Apple products, but I'm no lemming. When someone makes a better product than Apple I'm totally ready to say so.

So anyone who buys an Watch is a lemming?

It tracks a huge amount of data for you via a large number of sensors. It also displays all the notifications you want and can access Cortona etc

What do you want a watch to do ? Internet ? Video, games and pictures ? Lmao try doing that on a 2.5 inch screen and come back to me

it does look good, i'll give it that, but my bet is that it doesn't do nearly as much as we may think it does... time will tell. apple watch may ask a lot in terms of design, but i think it will also end up blowing us away with what it can do. laugh now about looking at small pictures on it, but.. just wait. bet you're gonna love to see the face of your loved one when that text comes in... and many other things. but, as i say, the microsoft band is unexpectedly cool in design and i'm curious to see how well it all works.

"The Microsoft Band is designed to last 48 hours on a single charge."

Actually I would expect it to last a fortnight as nobody with any fashion sense would be caught dead wearing this 24/7.

I don't get what's cool about it design wise. It's a black plastic band. If this was coming from Samsung people would be calling it ugly.

Will people pay $249 for the Fitbit Surge? That thing is still rockin' a monochrome display.

This thing has friggen Cortana.

$199 is a steal.

However because of the name 'Microsoft' it will languish and not even sell a million by end of year.

Yes, at least judging purely by websites, Microsoft Band and Fitbit Surge, Microsoft seems to have strong competitive edge in terms of features and price in almost every areas.

And as an owner of two Fitbit products, Flex and One, I am personally very disappointed by low build quality and their attitude toward HealthKit.

Why is it ironic that Microsoft will 'probably' sell more of these to iOS users than Windows Phone users? In 2008, do you think more Mac users were buying the iPhone than Windows users? What about the iPod in 2005?

Intelligent people pick the best product that will meet their needs for the given situation, regardless of the logo. Only idiots buy a product simply because they have some weird self-made love fest with the company that makes it.

And I'd guess that if was from Apple people would be lining up to buy it.

Well I wouldn't be one of them. And I seem to remember earlier this year when the rumors were "iWatch" would be more of a fitness band than smart watch a lot of posts here were "meh". I guarantee you if this is what Apple released posters here and the reporting by the tech press in general would have been underwhelmed. We would have seen comments like "really Apple, three years and all you can come up with is a Fitbit clone?"

The thing is, today the word "Microsoft" has so much baggage associated with it. It's also fairly plain to see that "Microsoft Band" is a rip on the "Apple Watch" branding.

And the "Apple Watch" branding is a rip on fit-bit.

It seems that the Apple watch is more of a fashion piece or jewelry at this point.

Which doesn't make any sense to me, because, my personal opinion, it's not that good looking of a watch. I'm sure Jon Ives could've designed a helluva watch if that's all he were making, but all that added hardware inside doesn't leave much room for streamlined elegance.

I don't doubt that about the comments here, but I bet that people would buy it like crazy. That's the power of the Apple brand. People bought the 4S which was 3 generations old, ditto for the iPad 2. Both of those products were long in the tooth, but they had the power of the Apple name.

That actually looks nice, and the UI does, too! It's modern and simple and easier to navigate, it seems. I don't get all the hate.

I'm not impressed by the looks either, but I'll have to see it in person first. If the 18K gold watch is a few thousand dollars, it sure isn't a fitness product, it's jewelry/fashion all the way, more fashion from the pics I have seen, IMO. I don't see it as a fine dress watch, but I'm looking at it from a traditional point of view. On the other hand, I can't see spending a couple of grand on something that will be obsolete in a couple of years and certainly way behind as soon as version 2 arrives in a year or less. Pretty expensive for throw away tech, IMO.

Yep because this thing looks so similar to the iWatch.

That pic is hideous, IMO. But that wasn't my point. If the MS Band was an Apple product, it would sell like crazy. I wasn't comparing it to the Apple Watch.

OMG it actually has integrated GPS! This plus a 48hr battery life. All I want it to do now is sync with HealthKit and it's an instant buy.

It beats Apple due to usable screen and no stupid click-wheel. It shows more imagination not sizing it in a way that is trying to imitate a watch.

So which company is the foward-looking one?

Man, MS is really firing on all cylinders now between Azure, Office 365, Windows Phone, Windows 10, Band/Health, Cortana, Surface Pro 3.

Now they just need to make a clamshell Surface Book and we're golden.

I rather like this product but boy I have no idea what the f you are talking about saying this design is innovative.
It's the same form factor that jawbone Fitbit Nike fuel band etc everyone has been making.

This looks like a great fitness/health tracker that is also a watch. I've been waiting for one of these.

Although I'm not a fan of any tracker that's on your wrist. Anyone who has had a fitbit flex knows how exaggerated the numbers end up being. If you drive a car you'll be surprised how many "steps" you've taken if you tap the steering wheel or make sharp turns. I ditched the flex and got the fitbit one. Best fitness device I've ever worn

Same shape but completely different

We all know Apple's history with claim to shapes....so why even try to make that argument?

Apple wasn't the first to make a smartphone, but they were the first to "nail it". MS has just nailed the smart band. The smart watch OTOH is a totally stupid idea and will only be kept alive due to the Apple marketing machine.

I'd hardly call myself a watch connoisseur, but to my untrained eye, I don't see much special about it. I wouldn't call it a hideous failure of design, because it's not. But I also wouldn't say it's all that spectacular, either. It's very...

...plain.

That's about the most damning thing you can say about an Apple product.
