Sounds cool. Maybe call them the Air Zune’s, or the Zune Pods, or the “Microsoft Hasn’t thought of an Original Idea Ever Pods, by Microsoft.”

I was actually trying to think of the last time Microsoft though of an original idea and even the GUI interface for windows 3.1 wasn’t theirs. There has to be an idea that didn’t preceded theirs. Xbox, no. VR, nope. Explorer/Edge,, no way. Cortana, please... Hotmail, :puking face:, Microsoft Money? Or was it Muicken? The Band, nah. Microsoft Sync for cars? Maybe that’s it! Though it failed, it might be been quasi original. So I’d call them the Sync Pods. Weird, but I thinks it’d be god luck.

I see people at the gym, “sweating like a pig(as it were)”, with AirPods. I personally wouldn’t use them like that since Apple was clear they are not sweat resistant. But to each their own.

“Fairly water resistant for what they are.” That sounds like a famous last quote, or what’s said after making a $160 mistake. :D

How about the ultimate idea that eventually became the iPhone and iPad? Jobs described how the impetus for Apple designing the iPhone was a reaction to the Microsoft Tablet PC he learned about at a party. The very next day after being so inspired by Microsoft's Tablet PC and everything he thought they were doing wrong he started a project inside of Apple to build a tablet took the idea and eliminated some of the shortcomings. Ditch the stylus, replace with touch etc... That project eventually led to the iPhone first and then eventually the original vision - tablet done right. Neither product may exist today if not for Microsoft's idea that the future of computing was tablets.

Maybe, it sounds like you know more than I do, but isn’t the Newton credited as the first tablet? And Microsoft’s Tablet PC didn’t make phone calls did it? ‍♂️ Idk.

Not sure if it was the first or not - there were a lot of PDAs before tablet PCs - not sure where Newton fits in. I just remember reading the story from the Jobs biography the story Jobs tells of the origins of what became the iPhone and how Microsoft's tablet was the catalyst.

The way I look at Microsoft and Apple is Microsoft is usually innovative and directionaly correct but awful at either timing, execution or both. This is true in TV where they were doing IPTV and DVRs in the mid 90s, mobile well before the iPhone, tablets well before iPads, smart watches in the early 2000s. All this was either too early (watches, IPTV etc..) or the execution was abysmal (mobile etc...)

A successful strategy for a company like Apple or anyone else would be to look at what Microsoft is trying to do and flailing at and start developing a similar product that addresses all the shortcomings. If the development takes a few years so the timing gets better (whether it be miniaturizing technology, increased CPU power etc...) and you can hit a home run.

I do understand where you're coming from - - confusing the early implementations of a technology with the first perfected implementation is a very common error. The 2016 Gear IconX buds are not at all the same type of design as AirPods, however I do appreciate your use of italics in your attempt to make a point, it's a great example of using style for emphasis. Unfortunately, your resorting to the Kool-Aid trope provides a lazy and disappointing conclusion to your post. I offer all best wishes in your budding development in writing skill.

So much cringe. Look, AirPods are a good product, and hugely important in the development of the industry. You misremembered the timeline a little. So what? You don't need to feel embarrassed about that. But the post I'm responding to? That's one that will be popping into your mind for a long time.
