Modern Warfare 2019 made $600 million in it's first three days, Modern Warfare II (2022) earning $800 million in three days. I don't think you understand the kind of money Call of Duty brings in. It's such a big deal that regular retailers in Europe had warning signs in the video game sections about the ActiBlizz merger and saying to choose your console carefully because of that.
The total revenue figures I could find for CoD (the entire series) were in the $15 billion range. For Candy Crush it's well above $20 billion. These numbers could be totally wrong, but Candy Crush is a bigger deal than most gamers would like to think.

The CMA said the reworked deal would "preserve competitive prices" in the gaming industry and provide more choice and better services.

Categorically, corporate consolidation doesn’t preserve competitive prices nor does it provide more choice.

We know Candy Crush is a big thing, but it's not a system seller. Call of Duty is. Call of Duty would also move Game Pass subs, Candy Crush doesn't.

All this just to get that juicy Candy Crush revenue. That's where the real money is.
Correction: Activision Blizzard actually gets most of their revenue and operating profit from their Activision segment. Their King Digital (Candy Crush) segment only brings in about one third of their total revenue and operating profits

I truly and sincerely hope Microsoft can/will save Blizzard. The “old guard” is gone, but maybe they can pull a rabbit out of the hat and fix the sinking ship. Blizzard was my favorite gaming company growing up (next to id and 3D Realms), so I’m quite sad to see how they turned out.

Activision is one of the most popular video games publishers in the world, and the deal represents one of the biggest shake-ups in the games industry in recent history. The studio is the maker of hit titles such as Call of Duty, Candy Crush, World of Warcraft, and more.
No they aren't? 3 out of 6 of the games in the image were definitely made by Blizzard, not Activision.

Overwatch is debatable. Development started before the merger. It was released in 2016, 8 years after the Activision merger. In the merger, I believe Blizzard had greater ownership/control than Activision. But overtime, Blizzard's management left the company and all that was left was former Activision people at the top.

Anyways, Call of Duty is Activision's only original franchise. Candy Crush was from when they acquired King.

So... state of the RTS genre... WC, SC, and AoE are all owned by Microsoft after this merger goes through. The only major RTS series not under Microsoft's control is Command and Conquer?

The regulator is either joking or deluded.
They don't have a stranglehold. Not even close. Sony is, and still will be, the premier gaming platform after this deal closes. Call of Duty is going to be on PlayStation for at least the next 10 years. I don't think COD will be as relevant in 10 years as it is today. These young kids are playing other games and COD will loosen its stranglehold eventually since it's the least original game on the market.

As for the other games, it's a big bolster to Microsoft's lineup. They already have a monopoly in the PC gaming world, so not much to add there. When it comes to Sony and Nintendo, this deal really shouldn't impact them too much in the long run as their platforms are built off of their extravagant exclusive lineups. If anything, it will force more people to purchase more than one platform to play games like Diablo / Starcraft / Fallout etc. I don't think this move will hurt anyone, but rather force people on the other platforms to have to buy Microsoft's latest console to play their games.

If Apple really care about gaming, then they should acquire games only for Mac. Otherwise, Mac gaming sucks for many ways and CS2 already proved it.

For all those who wish Apple was into gaming, and was well supported and programmed for by the Gaming GIANTS, and people who liked gaming were not buying Apple machines.
You only have "ONE" person to blame for all of this: Steve Jobs.

I guess I'll say goodbye to newer Crash Bandicoot releases for PlayStation 5.

I've been playing World of Warcraft on MacOS since 2005.

It currently runs very well on Apple Silicon. Now I'm worried how long that will last.

If you have been following Blizzard’s press, they were not going to do mac ports anyway.
Are you saying that they are going to stop doing WoW on Mac?... or are you saying they won't commit to any more games being ported to Mac. I haven't seen these articals.

I think the evidence points to them not caring at all. There's a parasitic dangerous doomer cult that pervades the executives and venture capitalists in gaming, gambling, crypto, AI. They come from finance and don't believe in sustainability and fairness.

They appear to believe that the future of the planet should only belong to a few thousand extremely wealthy people and to achieve that ambition they need to vacuum up all the money and land in the world until everyone else is extremely poor, dead or a serf.

So not surprising to see them endorse rent seeking models such as micro transactions, subscriptions, 'rented virtual home', nfts and other very regular costs. In the long run people who pay these things monthly will end up with nothing when they are old. No money to retire on. No money to leave their children. No money to even have children. No home they can own themselves.
And I want to add this: no matter what they say publicly and how much they insist on otherwise, their full intention to wipe the humanity off of the planet is crystal clear and undeniable. I’ve been curious why with all the AI craze going on today, replacing CEO with AI is never on the agenda, and virtually no news article talking about AI making executive decisions rather than by humans. I am very eager to know how AI would think of this whole Microsoft purchasing Activision process and will AI approve it.

With the absence of AI CEO, their job would never be replaced, thus never will be threatened directly. There is no way that nobody is thinking of training AI for critical decision-making process. People just don’t do it for, well, reasons.

The news should be updated with the official statement from Microsoft and Activision Blizzard, about the acquisition now closed.

In fact gamers of Blizzard games really want the acquisition as Microsoft is seen as the only hope to revive.

We can kiss the Mac ports goodbye...

So be it.

Blizzard is such a tainted brand these days and their latest titles, world of Warcraft, Diablo 4 and overwatch are no longer the household names they once were.

Microsoft is inheriting a ton of problems with their latest acquisition and they truly have a lot of work cut out for them in terms of resuscitating the brand and winning back the jaded fan base.
