I saw it. I thought it was strange that Bill Gates did a commercial, because he doesn't really need the money.

Then I saw that is was a Microsoft commercial.

Totally had a "wtf" moment, cause it didn't make sense.

Yes indeed!

Worst
Ad
Ever?

Seinfeld reminds me of the mid 1990s. Kinda like Microsoft...

Haha - i just dont get the point really - not to flattering for M$ i would say in the least. That weird stuff at the end certainly won't make me rush out and buy Vi$ta. :D

Spot on - MS isn't spending hundreds of millions to sway 500 people on fricking MacRumors forums.

LOL

After surpassing 200,000 members as of Feb 2008, and receiving over 3,000,000 hits per month, there seems to be a much larger audience here than 500. Ironically, those on these forums constitute a demographic which would actually be far more likely to relate to these commercials than most others ever would.

Are they both Mac guys? Really? I would've thought that fossil McCain wouldn't know a computer from a hole in the ground, but maybe I was wrong.

Actually, you are right. McCain can't even use a computer for god sakes. He DOES NOT use the internet, and actually has his staff PRINT the email he receives ON PAPER. I KID YOU NOT...

It should mention Vista. It might have had more potential with a word about Mojave, which is honestly a really amusing idea- but they totally left it out....

The ad is obviously just an introduction to the characters and the rapport between the characters. As the campaign moves ahead I'm assuming we'll get more product awareness.

You can have a funny story and some kooky characters, but it's still an advertisement and as such still needs to bring out some product awareness.

The "Get A Mac" ads work so well because not only are they hilarious, but they bring out Windows' shortcomings and OS X's perks at the same time. This ad did none of that.

Right after i watched that i didn't really know what to say. i just sat hear staring at the youtube screen, not knowing what just happened. I think i may have had a small stroke.
WTF!?!
What was the point of that!? THAT is supposed to take on the "get a mac" ads!? I don't even know what just happened, bill gates and seinfeld became best friends in a shoe store and that is supposed to show that you don't need a mac!? its even worse than stupid windows mojave project comercials where people get to see vista for like 10 minutes and think its great, now let them take it home for a week and have it crash and flip out like we all know it does, then see if they like it so much!

I just watched it, and from someone who uses OS X and Windows every day.... WTF was that trying to say!

Terrible Ad.

Maybe I am not geek enough to get it. :)

Perhaps the point was to get people to talk about the AD. I know what they'll say, "WTF"?

this is not an attempt to kill by throwing rocks over a wall, this is the killer smiling and "aw-shucks"-ing his way into your living room. Attacking Apple directly, for example, would only get them destroyed in public opinion.

Showing Bill Gates old geeky picture (on the ID) and engaging in the "casual banter" is designed to, over many, many ads, shift people's perception from "MS are predatory makers of garbage" to "hey, MS are just casual geeky guys trying to make the world a better place".

Basically, what you're saying is that they're trying to get us to gradually drop our guards and charm us. While that's fine in theory, if you're the killer, you're not going to "get into [the] living room" by showing up looking and behaving like Steve Urkel.

Charming people requires actually having some charm. Otherwise you just creep them out.

I pity the people that don't "get" Seinfeld and the Mulva/Deloris quip.

I pity the people that do.

I'm willing to be persuaded that this is the opening act in a low key campaign, but I'll have to see more to really go along. Each Apple ad can stand alone though they do support each other over time. Perhaps it will become obvious later but I don't see how this supports MS. Weird stuff about shoes. Showering with your clothes on. Bill shopping for discount shoes. Microsoft building computers. They don't make computers now (unless you count xbox and zune). Are they planning to start?

What is with that comment about the hordes of wonderfully smart people in Redmond? I don't doubt there are but the ad should somehow tie that in to something. They just lay it out there like people will accept it but it begs the question, 'If those guys are so smart how come Vista sucks so bad you had to make this commercial?'.

Taking into consideration that BG doesn’t believe in spending more than $7 for a haircut, shopping for discount shoes is actually pretty congruent with his character. Stay tuned for the intro of the Windows 8 box - circa 2021.

I am at a complete loss...

After watching that, I HAD to sign in and comment. Let me say that I say this not as an Apple fan, but as a normal unbiased human being:

That was quite possibly the ALL TIME WORST AD I have *ever* seen.

I mean, that was BEYOND bad. I'm at a complete loss... there aren't even words.

Someone should be fired for this ad. That's how bad it is.

I don't even care if it's the "start" of some campaign, there is no excuse. That was simply abysmal.

Good luck Microsoft.

Wow.

LOL"

hahaha, truly :)

anyway, it was not an ad, it looks more like trying to revamp the 90's seinfeld show :D its stupid. but i liked that show. i like the tights and sneekers.
its funny cause he wears the same **** as he did in the mid 90's.
its like a friggin timemachine :D

as far as the ad is concerned, ive seen worse. at least this one is TRYING to be funny

Finally Someone Gets It

lol its essentially a "hold on and wait for windows 7" commercial

not a mention of vista, just "the future"

people, i know we all love apple and want to attempt to shoot down everything ms does as poorly directed planning blady blady bladah

but honestly, i think this commercial is ON POINT.

positives

1) who doesn't love jerry

2) several ppl get to now put a wrinkly pale face to that famous name bill has, due to the fact that millions of ppl worldwide know the name but have never seen him.

3) bill actually did his own commercial, do you see steve on get a mac commercials, i think not.

4) hes not wearing a turtleneck in august

5) Shows the idea of bills everday, average price, affordable kind of guy, very undertony, but played well in my eyes,

6) jerry showing him ideas, about the shoes, and re-directing him shows that microsoft was willing to take and humbly accept fellow consumers criticism, and listen, learn and adjust.

7) he is only pointing towards THE FUTURE, thus no vista refrences or features. he is saying there will be a epic movement back to the ms domination, in the near future, presumably with windows 7, which jerry implied with the edible pc's reference and the rump shake,

8) basically every issue that needed to be taken care of , was , and hillariously played out, as well as im sure the shoe store was all smiles to the idea, major publicity for them,

FURTHERMORE- bills membership card picture was hillllariously on spot.

thanks

so true

haha , owned.

its sad how many ppl dont realize that too, come on people.

One very useful thing I've learnt from this ad: Bill's shoe size is 10

No, what we have learned is that he won't make the transition to size 10. He's stuck in size 9 or size 9.5. The situation warrants making the leap to a new and different size, but rather than do that, he wants to hold on to his old shoe size, simply because all his old shoes also happen to be a 9 or 9.x size. He's unsure if he'll be able to still wear his other shoes on occasion after he buys size 10's or if he'll be forced to discard them all and start over with size 10.

What we have learned that Bill Gates is afraid of change and can't deal with the fact that his feet may have changed from what they were 20 years ago.

This add will definately get people talking ! About the new iPods and laptops on tues ! Nice timing!

Hey did you see that new miceosoft commercial?
Yeah! And I was like WTF
I know eh ! Hey apple has new iPods and laptops, let's go check them out!

They might want to turn this around before the holidays or they will help apple have the best quarter yet !

And where the hell was Al Bundy? He would have rocked Jerry !

:apple:

One very useful thing I've learnt from this ad: Bill's shoe size is 10

10 1/2, if one counts the 'pleather.' The second ad will likely feature Bill returning the size 10s to exchange for a more bloated size 11, with lot's of extra pleather to indulge in.
