it's funny....

I just watched it again, and I have to say it just gets better every time. You have two of the richest men of their profession, shopping at a discount shoe store. I love it. If you don't get well then, watch it again until you do.

I think the spot is brilliant. It's unassuming and fun, you don't need to put a product on tv for it to sell. Look at this site 600 plus comments and still going. I think it is doing what it intended to to. Have people talk about Microsoft. You all fell right in to their trap, lol.

Laughing. You make a great point! I never even thought about it in that way.

Pathetic

The brilliance of the Mac-guy/PC-guy ads was that Mac-guy is a regular semi-cool dude in street clothes who knows stuff while PC-guy is a clueless dweeb who follows the herd.

What strikes me as pathetic about Microsoft's new campaign is that Jerry Seinfeld may be cool, but he doesn't know tech stuff and doesn't have to. He's a filthy rich celeb who has assistants to take care of stuff when his laptop is hopelessly hung due to some problem with the MS operating system. Hell, he probably has a full-time tech specialist on his staff. Making a bad choice of a celebrity to pitch your product is one thing... choosing to put Bill Gates in there too... I'm at a loss for words.

Do you know that MS is already trying to explain the lame ad as [fill in the blank]???

How many comments - A Sign??

I just stopped by, and I noticed something very interesting about how many comments have been made so far on this thread.... Not that I am superstitious... I'll let you all draw your own conclusions....

Is it a sign? ;)

All through the ad, I wishing "wtf—when is this going to end?" It went on about a minute too long. This is obviously the long version... where the shorter 30 second spot—I assume one would be produced—might tie everything together easier.

They should have hired HP's ad writers... those were well crafted and showed off some of what you can "do" with Vista (even the one with Seinfeld in it).

As an advertising guy...

This was completely ineffective at selling the product.

But it was also a really, really refreshing comedy sketch that made me giggle.

They are just going for a touchy-feely campaign to overhaul Microsoft's image. I doubt it will sell any copies of software but it was still clever and fun and I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Was it a waste of money? Absolutely. Am I looking forward to the next one? Yup.

Never heard of Shoe Circus until now. Do you need to reboot them all the time? Or are they merely big, floppy and colorful?

For those who "don't get it", stop trying!

They are obviously not selling anything! It's a teaser. A commercial about nothing (hence Seinfeld).

It is meant to be enjoyed (or not) merely for its quirky and unusual premise.

You are making yourselves seem just a little dull by admitting publicly that you don't understand the commercial.

While I admit the best commercials entertain me, their most important function is to at least educate me about the product or service they would like me to at least consider purchasing.

If all MS wants to do is entertain me, they should just create and fund a new sitcom with Jerry Seinfeld.

Dear GOD, that was stupid.

Man, that was dreadful. It was too effing long for one thing. I didn't get what they were plugging. Most of it was like that PSA starring Al Sharpton and Pat Robertson. The Microsoft stuff was forced. And Bill doesn't even work for Microsoft anymore. And what's up with the shoe foolishness? Are they suggesting you should operate Vista in the shower so it'll work better? Or are they saying it doesn't work because your computer is too "small"?

I don't know if anybody has mentioned this, but the picture on Bill's Shoe Circus platinum card in the ad seems to be his mug shot from when he was arrested in Albuquerque. Now that is actually quite funny!

THAT'S WHERE I SAW THAT PICTURE BEFORE. Oh that's too funny. It was bugging me, since I remember seeing it from somewhere. Damn, I have to admit this ad was clever

Is it suppose to be funny ?

Dull Boring, long enough to go and get a coffee...Wake me when its over.

Laughing.. you just described the majority of big business and their employees

some one please explain what they are trying to sell :p
what is the purpose of the ad:confused:
worst ad ever
aren't adds supposed to promote your products not demote them
and I don't see how this is a great comeback against mac vs, PC adds
I bet 2 months before Microsoft goes out of business

I have thought about it. The point still remains: A crappy ad is still . . . guess what, a crappy ad!

Since it's purpose was to get people talking about MS then it seems to have worked rather well, doesn't it?

I think there are many people on this site (even though it is a Mac site) who would have loved to see something creative, fun and interesting in these ads, regardless of who it's for.

And far more who'll just pan MS for any reason at all. However, you'll notice that there actually are quite a number of positive comments amongst the usual vitriol.

Personally, I would have loved to see the Apple get a run for its money in the advertising world. I think everyone was excited about a series of ads featuring Jerry and Bill. Something to have fun with. But in the end, it still sucked.

And you've made that judgment after precisely one advert which quite clearly achieved it's purpose? Because, you know, I'm going to bet that over 90% of the people on this site are going to tune in for episode 2. 90% of the people on an Apple fan site.

Oh my!

i thought the ad was quite clever. There are a few hidden jokes to it. Like on his platinum membership that picture was his mug shot when he was arrested. And he's shopping at the discount shoe store because he doesn't believe in spending a lot when its not necessary and the fact that he is one of the richest people in the world. Wasn't there a story about him not spending more then $20 on a haircut or something like that.
The ad didn't sell the product but was quite comical IMO.

What trap? Look at what site you're on. Any other board would have maybe 3 comments about it...

Maybe "trap" is the wrong word. Its a water cooler commercial if you don't like it well I don't know what to tell you but this site is a water cooler and you be talking about it so....

Wha'---

Honestly, I watched that in complete incomprehension. It's the silliest thing I've ever seen, and I don't have a single Idea why they think this will sell... what? Squeaky shoes?

Maybe they should have used Roman columns on the background or used the"Chosen One" as an spokesman instead of Seinfeld.

Why bother? All they need to do is use the word 'change' over and over but never define it, and promise people everything they want at someone else's expense.

Shiny objects tend to work as well.
