I’m not entirely sure what they were thinking when designing that thing to be fair.... one thing is certain, they are one of the few that aren’t carbon copying the AirPods...

There is only one reaon why I bought Apple Beats headphones/pods... H1 chip.
Since pods have gone all touch I prefer the design of the Microsoft version, but no H1 chip, no buy, it does matter how good its sounds or features.

Most likely should not be compared with the AirPods Pro as the Surface Buds have no ANC. Also not just in terms of sounds quality which is good. But I have had no dropouts or cutouts of audio with my AirPods. Something I get with Bose Soundsport Free if I turn my head to the opposite of my device.

Should have made them available in shades of brown and they would a great ugly accompaniment to the Zune player.

Seriously Microsoft, stop making hardware, you are aesthetically terrible at it.

Those things are ugly imo, but whoever likes them should buy them.

But who would want to pay $199 for tinny sound? Even if they were “beautiful” I wouldn’t pay $49 let alone $199 for tinny sound.
I wouldn't pay the asking price for Beats/Apple headphones either because I despise their sound profile which is highly "designed". Again, it's all down to what the user likes and how educated they are in sound. A lot of people won't be fussed how they sound.

A Galaxy is just a Pixel of Air from the Surface.

Make these in Green, Red, and Orange and you'll look like you are wearing clearance sale stickers.

I’m actually really disappointed to hear this. I love my Airpods, but I had high hopes for for these as a secondary.

If all the features only works with Windows devices then these aren’t made for mobile. Big mistake

I have no intention of buying these but I would have been interested in how they are removed from the case. One thing that takes a bit of learning with Airpods is that you have to figure out to pull from the rear of the case (near the hinge) to easily remove them. I don’t see how you remove the MS Buds from their case in this review.

These seem like a fairly good design, as regular AirPods kind of fall out too easily for me, and I don’t want headphones that stick in my ears that far.

The interface seems potential well thought out too.

I’m not sure I’d ever buy these types of products again though, as I agree with the assessment that they’re evil. They-the entire product category-are expensive, and ludicrously Disposable.

Mad at how disposable so much of our electronics are now.

“‌AirPods‌ don't have gesture controls for volume, which is one of the major negatives when it comes to ‌AirPods‌ gestures.”

One major feature of the Apple Watch is that, at least when using Airpods with the iPhone, you can use the watch crown to adjust volume. I’m not sure if that is enough to justify buying an Apple Watch but if you have one, it is tremendously more convenient that asking Siri to adjust the volume.

These are not any less ridiculous looking than Apple's AirPods. I like my AirPods Pro, but still find them to look silly.

Surprise surprise...Macrumors gives a bad review about a non apple product. I own them and there is no tiny sound. You compare them to the pro version of apple. They are supper comfortable and today I got 7 1/2 hours on first charge and case can charge 2 more times..They never fell out and yes I did try apple airpods .The have an app Surface audio that helps you tweak the audio. Touch volume and touch skip or previous song. Or ask Siri to turn it down or play a certain song. Not saying apple is bad but at I like to have options and I'm sorry but apple tells you what they think is good and you just drink the juice and agree.

There's no Active Noise Cancellation, so the only sound isolating comes from the fit of the Surface Earbuds in the ear.

Is it fair to ding these earbuds for not having active noise cancellation when the AirPods don't have it either?

The case charges over USB-C, and there's no wireless charging included.

Wireless charging is not a standard feature for all AirPods.

Got 2 sets of these, the first was DOA, wouldn’t pair to anything. The replacements work great. My ears bother me easy besides the regular Air pods I have to use ear clip style wired head sets. Over the ear head sets start to bug me quickly as well. The Surface buds are the only other Bluetooth earbubs that I have fount to be comfortable. I use Airpods for my iPhone and iPad Pro but now I’ll use the surface buds for my gaming laptop. They just work better with windows then the AirPods do, kinda like how the AirPods work well with Apple stuff.

Don’t think I’d ever use them on a non windows product but if you are looking for a wireless airpod like option for a windows laptop, they work great.

And once again, even in the absence of Steve Jobs, Apple has an unique, courageous product that it’s iconic, cool, and defines its own category, while producing metric tons of cash.

This comparison feels like Zune vs. iPod all over again.
What exactly is iconic about them? Let alone courageous (other than the ridiculous shape)?

Nobody is copying AirPods (except for cheap knock-offs). AirPods look like sticks. All other earbuds use more compact in-ear design.

Given that the press release of these ear buds touted the live translation aspect of these, I feel like these are more like a babblefish for a corporate environment.

So how do they perform in one? I have surface headphones and they generally work well connected to multiple devices. How about these? How is their noise blocking ability when not using anc?

Aesthetically, I don't think they're bad at all, and price-wise, they seem to be in the sweet spot. But from a marketing perspective, I had no idea these even existed until this article. After 7 months on the market, you'd think a company like Microsoft would've figured out a way to get the word out.
