The problem IMO is that Apple's attempts at appealing to gamers have so far been half-hearted. If they'd developed a top-notch competing platform, then I could see them wanting to promote it over rivals. But there are so many better gaming alternatives out there, I wish Apple would support those systems. Apple's hardware is capable enough.

Maybe...but xcloud seems like a smart move. It supposedly will come bundled with Microsofts Game Pass which i subscribed to last week... you can download your games currently to Xbox or PC - but streaming will allow you to play without having to download hundreds of gigabytes, and play on non-Windows platforms that have different APIs.... so that DirectX game you want to play would work on a Mac or iPhone. And you don't need to buy extra copies for each platform.

So two downsides for Apple..... loss of revenue, and possibly loss of a ported game.

But this rule needs to change

I guess Apple didn’t want to compete with other game services like it does for video streaming services. Just gives Android phone makers another tool to market against iOS.

I’m really big into mobile gaming and gaming in general and this is definitely pushing me closer to Android. I love the iPhone, but this is getting nuts.

More often than not it seems these restrictions come down to Apple wanting their cut and restricting anything that doesn’t allow them to get their cut. Unless of course Apple needs the app/service on their platform. Then they create a whole new category to exempt those apps.

Mostly I support Apple's position on the App Store but this particular restriction... it really doesn't appear to serve any purpose beyond being anti-competition. Apple doesn't have an answer to these cloud services other than its own fairly mediocre Arcade (to which I subscribe, hoping it'll get better). I don't see how customers are served by this restriction.

Thank you for having nothing of value to add. This is genuinely a big concern. There’s no reason for it and Apple customers are the ones that are suffering.

There is absolutely a reason for it. It's too huge tech companies competing for services business. Services have become a major profit center for both of these companies. This is everything to them and their shareholders. Most likely Apple would allow this on their platform but only if they get a cut, which Microsoft is probably not willing to give. Or maybe they are, but the dispute is about amounts. Who knows. And whatever happens here extends to every other company that wants to stream games on Apple's platform.

I certainly don't like this from a consumer point of view, and there is a fair argument that this has gone too far. But I'm not the least bit surprised by it. We've been watching similar issues play out with satellite and cable TV, where network stations go offline because they can't reach a deal on fees, and then the consumer gets dragged into the fight.

Pretty cut and dry. Apple doesn't accept apps like this. Want it? Buy an Android and move on.

Wow, everyone looking to get the most out of their devices, please move on. Cocky Jeremy has just solved this with his enlightened comment!

Either build a platform people can write apps for that is open, or build a platform that is completely walled off. The next sentence was about to be full of curse words at Apple. I for one am tired of this crap, and I've had about 10 different iPhones, 3 iPads, 4 AppleTVs, 4 MacBook Pros, and a several Mac Minis & iMacs over the years.

This would honestly push me to get an Android. Game pass is that ****ing good.

Although I wonder if it's because it's in Beta? But Stadia exists so that wouldn't make sense.

App Store Guidelines suck!!

hope this is fixed soon, I don’t want xcloud, I need it!!!

I already bought a device that has the technical capability of using this app, and I didn’t receive a subsidy from Apple to purchase the device.

I will be offering my opinion that this policy is anti consumer, since there is no reason for Apple to do this than they wish to make more money from me. (For example no security or safety or user experience reasons)

In addition, articles like this are good because symmetrical information is necessary for markets to function.

We are WAY past this being the default response for the past x amount of year. Either actually offer something to the discussion, or **** and get out. I'm tired of these "gEt An anDroId" comments
So yeah... go get an Android.

Or push Apple to stop being a bunch of morons.
Yeah. Lets ignore what the trillion dollar company is doing because Mr Forum Guy knows more than Apple.

I say: don’t bother getting upset. Considering LAN-based game streaming is passable at most, WAN-based game streaming is “snake oil”.

yes all the biggest companies get and stay big because they consistently do right by the customers. we should trust that they have our best interests in mind.
