Except alot of people, who previously had no problems, are experiencing signal loss when they are in areas where the AT&T coverage is not excellent. The evidence pointing towards it being a flaw in all released phones is becoming overwhelming.

wow are you serious? no one is saying there aren't problems. some people are having them and some aren't. so now its time to try to find root cause, and it is pretty safe to say the answer won't be simple, there are combination of factors here

also, keep in mind 2 things have changed, but hardware and software, so just because someone says they don't have a problem with the old phone and do with the new doesn't put the blame solely on the hardware, since the software changed as well.

like i said, some have a problem, some don't, sorry to those who do, either wait for apple to find a fix or return the damn phone, no one is forcing you to keep it. put your money where your mouth is so to speak, from apple's perspective reading this they must be smiling on the inside because despite all the dissatisfaction no one is willing to return their phone, in fact they almost sold 2 million of them.

why don't you go post in a "MY IPHONE IS AMAZING!!!" thread somewhere. you are absolutely of no use to anyone that is having problems. youre posting here to gloat that you have a good working phone. but like i said, that doesn't magically make ours work better. why dont you let people that are having the issue discuss it and you go back your "OMG I JUST LICKED MY NEW IPHONE AND GOT A BONER!!!" thread

what are you 5 years old? i didn't say anything my phone, i simply said that this issue isn't that simple, get over yourself bro

I'm not certain, but knowing what I know, I would assume that any hardware change would result in the new device requiring testing and approval by the FCC. So at this point, if software and a bumper can't fix it, it's going to be a long wait....

Hanging out in a bar this weekend watching the World Cup (damn USA) with some friends, my iPhone4 had much worse reception than a few friends that had both GS and 3G iPhones. Several times, I got the "Searching..." display.

yea i'm 5. mommy just picked me up from daycare. it was a great day. we made iphones out of play-do.

didn't know we were graced by the presence of an MIT mechanical engineer. my bad

It may delay shipments a few weeks, but why doesn't Apple just MOVE the gap for the atennas on the left side of the iPhone down to the bottom? Maybe, centered over the dock conector, or over the left speaker port?

It may take a few weeks to retool, but it seems like a simple fix to me (Considering that any such changes mid-production would be a huge process).

What do you guys think?

Not a simple retooling at all,,,, you are forgetting about 90% of the process. Production is only about 10% of the whole process, for a change like that you will have to Re-certify the product. FCC, internal testing, RF testing, (UL if apply) and safety testing (drop and shipments test) all those take months depending on the load of the certs labs. Also would mean publicly accepting the design is flaw which it will be force to make a recall of at least 1.5 million units. ....

That is not going to happen...

well now you know, lol

maybe you should return your phone and just use the one you made from play-doh then, lol

don't get your panties all up in a bunch

thats actually not a bad idea. it would save me $320 and serve the exact same paperweight purpose. maybe you are on my side after all.

I truley believe it has something to do with the way the iphone 4 is capable at switching bands depending on which has the best call quality. I think this just needs to be a little more accurate and be able to swtich better betwen the bands

Absolutely agree!

The jury is still out here, but there are encouraging signs (in the avalanche of error reports) that this is a software issue.

There is definitely defective hardware, but when the dust settles I would expect the percentage of defective units to be within normal limits for a newly launched (and complex) product.

Very good pt. Let's hope they can mitigate the issue with software then.

yet another pointless thread!

Yes, because this isn't an issue
