I still do not understand the selling point of this device.
It is more pricey than an Air and slower. Sure but has a nice screen but if there is an Air revision then it's expected to have the ForceTouch and also a Retina display.
The 256GB 11in Air + 8GB RAM is $100 less and much faster, and if you want a bigger screen then the 256GB 13in Air + 8GB is the same price. Both giving you more ports, performance, and the same battery life(11in Air) or more (13in).
I know I'm probably going to be based but unless you REALLY need USB-C or REQUIRE Retina on a sub 13in device I do not get why you would buy the MacBook. I'm all ears as to why ANYONE thinks this is the perfect device for them over the Air, but I have not seen a single person make that statement.
I do admit the Space Grey is sexy though.
This was my dilema. I don't need the processor power or the ports, but I do want portability. I didn't buy the new rMB (on order, we'll see how long it takes to get it

) until I saw and used it in the store.
Yes, the difference between the 11" MBA and the rMB is only 1/3 of a pound, but the new rMB feels more balanced and "feels" much lighter. Hard to explain until you go into the store an pick up both.
What I need is a computer that I can write on, use Illustrator for light figure making, surf the web and make presentations. I do all these things on the go, be it at a coffee shop (writing) or an airplane or while traveling.
If i'm staring at the computer for long periods of time while writing, the retina screen really makes a difference for me.
Interestingly, 13"MBA, 13"MBP and this new laptop are all around the same price point. the 13"MBA has a larger footprint and worst screen, and the 13" isn't just as portable as I would like. Its harder to stuff in a backpack and ride 10mi to work and if I'm doing intercontinental travel, the new rMB footprint and weight helps tremendously.
I'm not too worried about the ports.... i can get around that using dropbox or carrying a USB-C-VGA dongle (which i would need anyway for MBA or MBP to use VGA projectors for presentations).
