It's weird that Apple hasn't made a pure black Mac since the polycarb MacBook. But it's been the default on iPhones since day1.

Not all iPhones have black anymore. They mostly switched to Midnight BLue … mostly.

Not sure if the manufacturing process is a problem to produce a matte black MacBook air/pro but people would be scrambling to buy them if made.

I am probably wrong but I think apple will eventually release a darker space gray and/or a matte black option down the road. It will just be another checkmark on their list of ways to get you to upgrade. $$$

I just got a MBP 14" and am enjoying it. However the OCD in me would contemplate an upgrade down the road if a darker color option was available. Skins don't really do it for me but with the speaker grills and entire bottom not being able to be covered isn't ideal.

My current MBP is in space gray. I'm not a fan of it. I wish I got silver. I like solid colors (not in-between) for my laptop.

Midnight Blue is similar to Navy Blue. It is a dark, desaturated blue that can look black in low light. Apple already offer the MBA in two other neutral colors: Silver and Space Gray. If they replaced midnight with black, the dullness would have won. I’m hoping that they add some more distinct colors, not less.
