After struggling with a wired MM for about a year I gave up. The side buttons took too much effort to press, the ball was very jumpy and the 'right click' often was a left click instead...

I now have a Kensington Expert trackball at home and a logitech laser mouse for when I am out on the road. The Expert is big, has 4 programmable buttons, a great scroll ring and it is comfortable to use for hours on end. But, it is not at all practicable for the road. Logitech laser mouse is nothing special, but it works how you want it too, which is more than the MM could manage...

I've been lead to believe that the tracking is very different on the wireless as the wired mighty mouse, is this accurate?
I use both wired and BT Mighty mice (plural) and as far as I am concerned they both track the same.

There is a considerable weight difference in the two, personally I prefer the wired version when making selections etc in Photoshop.

Contrary to many reports I have found both types reliable and trouble free. :)

I got one and its great. I love the ball bit and really well designed.

I have a Razr for gaming though and I have to say that tracking on MM is slightly slower than a wired but nothing to worry if u arnt playing like first person shooters or what.

I love the way it runs on 1 battery to adjust weight etc. Wonderful

I've been through many different mice and I've finally settled on the Razer Diamondback.

same, but i settled on the logitech MX518 (another "gaming mouse"). I had the wireless MM, and the fact that it sometimes has trouble registering left and right clicks is what made me change. The MX518 is a fantastic choice, if you can live with a wire.

I say pass up the Mighty Mouse (both the wired and wireless ones) and get a proper mouse, like, say, the Logitech VX Revolution. :)

The scrollball is great... for the first month or so. Then it starts to stick occasionally, pissing me off to no end. I love the Mighty Mouse's design and concept, but until Apple makes the scrollball a non-moving part (say, a touchball? Or Multitouch on a mouse?) I'll stick with Logitech.

My carpal tunnel has started hurting a lot more since I started using the mighty mouse. I'm thinking about getting the Logitech Revolution or the Microsoft Laser 6000 ergonomic one

When has :apple: made a decently designed mouse, at least in modern times??? It's nice to have ctrl click, but as an OPTION. How hard would it be to make a two-button mouse or have two buttons accompany the trackpad on the laptops???
jdo

These are factory preferences but they can be changed very easily, so <ctrl> + click *is* an option.

Touchpad - two fingers tapping the touchpad is the command for <right click>

Mighty Mouse - clicking the the right side of the mighty mouse as the <right click>

You can find these preferences in the system preferences. :)

Strange, my BT Mighty mouse has two AA batteries
Have they changed them?

FJ

No, you can either run it on 1 or 2 batteries depending on which weight you prefer.

Obviously 2 batteries will last longer, but its too heavy for me. I think this was a very well-thought thing.

I hate the mighty mouse and I cannot recommend any wireless mice to you, as I don't use one. I hate the idea of needing batteries for my mouse when I don't mind the tiny cable...

My Mighty Mouse is great. Although one time the scroll ball wouldn't work no matter how much I cleaned it, Apple sent a new one no questions asked. :)

I put no. I hate it.

Scroll-Ball is useless.

Cable gets in the way.

Got myself a sweet wireless one (and the scroller always works!)

I've been using a corded MM at my office for about 6 months and generally like it. The right click thing (lift left finger) does take some getting used to. I do like the track-nub, too. When the track-nub stops working smoothly, I use a slightly wet paper towel on it, rolling it around. Seems to work and has not done any damage. I also turned off the side-to-side scrolling as it drove me nuts, when I would just want to scroll up or down, invariably I'd go skewing of to one side or another.

I don't know if I would buy one, though. Mine came with a new iMac. I have a mid-level Logitech that I use at home that I think I would prefer, given a choice.

Cheers, I didn't realise it would run ok on one battery. :)

I will try this out, thanks again.

*in my best Chris Tucker impression*

Hellllllllllll no

Logitech is infinitely better. I hate the mighty mouse so much. The microscopic ball is useless. I could see it being a good idea in certain applications but the execution was pathetic, the size makes it unusable since you can only scroll in such tiny increments. The side buttons are also quite difficult to use. I dont mind the whole touch sensitive right click as much as most people but I still prefer a regular button. The optics are also terrible, like the old 1 click pieces of crap, they can be very erratic, I still experience the cursor teleporting to the bottom left hand corner for no apparent reason a few times a day (something a logitech or microsoft mouse has never done on me in the 10 years of using them)

Apple tried to reinvent the wheel here. They did not offer anything useful and instead they screwed up an already proven formula.

Well tell us how you really feel.

P.S. You can set the scroll wheel to scroll a lot more with each scroll in the System Preferences. One scroll for me pretty much goes down the whole page if I want it to ;)

get a Logitech VX and never look back. the mighty mouse trackball blows on so many levels.

I had the MM wireless and the scroll was rather interesting when it worked. I dont know why no one is mentioning it, but the mouse was ultra slow. Even with the setting on high, it still tracked very slowly. Not to mention there is a lot of friction on the bottom of the mouse which can wear down the surface that its on.

I have a Logitech VX and its worked flawlessly.

But the thing is, the MM is the only one (wireless one) that doesnt take up a USB Slot!! Which is very crucial.

I do Audio with Logic Pro and that requires a USB key plugged in at all times, i have another MIDI controller for the other USB, a MOTU audio interface for the Firewire 400 and an external HD for samples on the firerwire 800 slot (tho i know it runs only with 400 speeds) and a memory stick reader on the express...

Man i am using every single slot on this and its perfect. I cannot spare a USB for the mouse and the MM's advantage is there in my opinion.

what no bluetoof?:p

what no bluetoof?:p

No Sorry i meant that that is the reason WHY the mighty mouse (wireless) is great.

Because contrary to the other Logitechs offering, it is bluetooth and hence doesnt take up a USB slot, which is critical to me as I explained above!
