i love my mighty mouse(s).

except for if you are going to be doing painting or using the mouse with dirty hands - the ball will stop scrolling - just make sure you clean it UPSIDE DOWN so all the debris fall out instead of going into the fragile electronics of the scroll ball.

Im going to do something weird: I am going to recomend a mouse that is either of those already recomended (Logitech/Mightymouse or Microsoft)
Get the bluetooth rocketfish (rocketwhat? yeah is a crappy brand that pertains to bestbuy) anyway to the facts, bluetooth will save you an USB port (that are scarce in the MBP already) and though this mouse is not the prettiest neither the logitech and microsoft alternatives are, at least this one looks "similar" to the way mac is designed.
Few flaws it has:
Once (once a month or so) it will de-synchronize (easy to fix, either restart or turn off then on the bluetooth adaptor, thats it)
it takes ~5secs from the time the computer finished booting up (or resuming from suspention) to kick in the bluetooth (BIG DEAL! :D)
and this particular model attracts skin oils + dirt quite offten so you will have to clean it once a week or more frequent.

Some good things about it:
Looks well besides the mac (not awsome)
Very simple (wont be distracting you with extra buttons that never work as they should)
Save you the USB.
Ah its cheap (I got mine refurbished from eBay for $15, and looks just like new, I even got the manuals and original package, just someone opened before me, great that way I do not have to go through opening those extra hard plastic envelopes...:p

Whatever you decide, I do not recomend logitech: If you go for the designed for mac then you probably will end up spending a lot of money, if you go for designed for pc and then try to get the drivers for mac you will end up with buttons that does some weird stuff (like the scroll tilt dimming the screen wheter you tilt it for the right or to the left, doesnt matter, which makes it very unconftable when you do not have the keyboard close to brighten it up again (or the keyboard you have in front of you is not an apple keyboard with the right keys.) I say give it a try to those new microsoft all surface blah blah blah or the rocketfish I just mentioned.

I love the Mighty Mouse. I use the heck out of it. I haven't had any of the scrolling problems that seem to plague other folks. Perhaps I am lucky. I love the little guy.

Personally I cannot stand the Might Mouse, my good friend, however, swears by it. I don't think it is enjoyable to use, furthermore, I honestly don't think it looks good with the MBP (which I have), maybe it would look better with a white MB

I spent a while reading reviews and traveling to stores to see mice in person, before settling on a Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 8000. It's bluetooth, so I have one less thing to worry about being misplaced. It also comes with a rechargeable battery and charging base, yet still has the option of using a standard AA battery should the need arise. Unlike most bluetooth mice, it's full-size, which is great as I have large hands. A very comfortable mouse, that's precise and has excellent battery life.

The only con would be that it can be temperamental in its initial setup, but once you get past that it works great.

I hate Mighty Mouse. Can't stand them at work and we don't have any 3rd party ones in the building. Would bring my own mouse but the Might Mouse is plastic-tied with everything else on the computer so I can't really move it around. 3rd party all the way for me!

im going to go ahead and say that all the "mighty mouses" ("mighty mice" sounds weird) should be destroyed. i mean their own employees are saying that they suck. i can't believe apple can't come out with a kickass external mouse. they should really get on that. how hard can it be?! Microsoft did it!!

Nooo! Definitely not the Mighty Mouse!
I would suggest getting a bluetooth mouse from Logitech. I have this one
http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/mice_pointers/mice/devices/3287&cl=at,de
and its really awesome. You can also set up different options for the scroll wheel as well (ie. push down the scroll wheel for Expose or Spaces or something or push it left/right etc.)

The v470... that's what I have.. And I'm just about to take it back.
Don't you notice a lag if you don't move the mouse for a few seconds? Like it jumps after this time a little?
I get this lag in osx and windows vista64.

Simon

Ugh. Mighty Mouse. Mighty Mouse = Mighty Headache.

Nifty idea. Cool little scroll ball. Until it stops working (likely because it's jammed with finger oil goop).

Frankly, I don't think the MM's are worth the money, time, or effort. As a free peripheral included with most Mac systems today, sure, fine. Use it till it breaks. Don't spend money on the thing though, because, eventually, it's going to stop working.

IMHO, the best mice I've ever used are the Logitech G7 series. Solid, reasonably priced, and they look half decent (at least the blue/carbon-fiber does). Last a few years too. They come with two batteries, one sits in the charger, one in the mouse- and you just swap 'em out as you run out of juice (so you're never really without a mouse).

It's not really a travel-ready mouse, but for desktop use, it rocks.

I have the wired & wireless mighty mouse. Gonna love them all. It matches my apple hardware and very apple compatible.

I use a VX Revolution and set it up with Steermouse rather than the Logitech software. Works great and the one AA battery lasts a long time.

I used the wireless MM for a year or so. Actually liked the scroll ball but never got used to not being able to use both buttons at the same time, as with Opera to go back or forward. Apple calls it a two button mouse, actually it's a no-button mouse! The whole things moves, and does different things depending where your fingers are. It was fun for a while.

Lots of choices out there. Good luck!

How fast does bluetooth drain the battery? I was only thinking of getting a mouse/keyboard when docking. When docking, the macbook will be connected to the Apple LED monitor so USB ports are not a problem, infact the keyboard/mouse will be plugged in to the monitor.

.. very slow and remember it works also with only ONE battery ... ;)

also perfect with win7, same with apple bt keyboard ..

mightyMouse is also lightweight, so you don't feel a heavy stone in your hand.

very important are clean finger(s), as the scrollball (sometime) quits work if you are a dirt-boy ....

(all this for wireless compounds)

The MX Revolution is pretty good overall, but I always end up preferring symmetrical, ambidextrous mice over right-handed ones. I used an MX Revolution for several weeks, and I could not get used to the left part of the base which sticks out from the main part of the mouse. I also couldn't get used to the left thumb button (a good idea, but I hate to not be able to rest my thumb firmly against a flat surface on the mouse).

For years I would not even consider a Mighty Mouse because of all the negative opinions among Mac users. Once I started looking for the best mouse I could find, I tried both the wired and wireless Mighty Mous(es). The wireless version feels too heavy and sort of hollow, although it has the most reliable bluetooth experience that I've found in a mouse. The wired version feels great, and I would use it as my mouse if it weren't for the fact that the scrollball gets clogged up after a few months of use. I think that the Mighty Mouse has the most satisfying tactile click and that it feels much more solid than any other mouse. One thing I hate about the MX Revolution is its flimsy-feeling clicks.

I really feel that Apple did a good job designing the Mighty Mouse, but the tendency for the scrollball to stop working makes it a bad choice.

The MX Revolution looks "BUTT ugleeee" but the Mighty Mouse looks good?
Mmmmkay. You're clearly too drowsy from the Apple kool-aid to even be helped if you think a mouse that looks like a cross between a soap bar and a 1991 PC mouse looks better than sophisticated Swiss designed eye candy...

Incidentally, Logitech is the only company at the moment that makes input devices that match the new black & silver look of the Macs. DiNovo Edge and DiNovo for Mac (both glossy black/brushed aluminium), MX Revolution and VX Nano (black with glossy black accents), G9X European version (black with silver grip... Americans get a black grip, sorry)... these things match an alu iMac or MacBook so much better than Apple's stupid white peripherals that were designed for the previous generation of Macs from the white era (circa 2003-2007).

i might be high on Apple cider but I still got my eyeballs to tell me if sum'thin looks butt UGGHLEEE. just like those DELL displays. Nothing compared to the ACD's
