ok on my 2011 macbook pro with 4gig of ram, hd 3000 graphics ,320 gig HDD
i5 sandy bridge processor the fans start blazing the mac gets slow and the fps drop to 5-10 It normally runs at 70-80 fps but when the fans start it runs slow as hell I would also like to add that I have mine craft 1.9 prerelease 4 running:mad:

Lower your display/video settings and the 1.9 pre release might be part of the reason, I have an i7 13" 8GB RAM and it runs perfect. You should consider upgrading the RAM, it's night and day difference for a low cost. (50$)

Edit: I don't use SMC for the record.

Yes I was considering 8 GB of RAM but is lion also the reason for this ?

With only 4GB of RAM it's possible but I think it should still be performing better then you're describing.

Definitely consider the upgrade if it's in your budget, it is so worth it! The installation is pretty straight-forward even a computer illiterate person could do it with the right tools using the iFixit guides!

Hi, I think that Lion is not the reason, a friend of mine has the same exact model as yours and playing minecraft he gets the same problem under SL. Not sure what it can be, though :S

Yeah, Minecraft isn't exactly the most well made game on the market.

It is a beta what do you expect?

mine craft ran way better under SL no crashes no heat issues or anything:( although I have upgraded my ram to 8 GB hardly an improvement.

I've been playing Minecraft on my 5 year old MacBook Pro with a Core Duo, 2GB RAM, and Radeon x1600 and I've never had an issue.

I have it set to "fancy" graphics and the render distance as normal and my fans never get above 3500 RPM. I'm on OS 10.6.8

From my side, I didn't see any difference between Lion and SL on my white MacBook. IMHO it is somehow related to the hardware (but I'm not a technician, just a student :D).
