Use smc to ramp up fans before you play, and while you play. I think that the computer is throttling itself because of the heat.

Lower your display/video settings and the 1.9 pre release might be part of the reason, I have an i7 13" 8GB RAM and it runs perfect. You should consider upgrading the RAM, it's night and day difference for a low cost. (50$)

Edit: I don't use SMC for the record.

Yes I was considering 8 GB of RAM but is lion also the reason for this ?

With only 4GB of RAM it's possible but I think it should still be performing better then you're describing.

Definitely consider the upgrade if it's in your budget, it is so worth it! The installation is pretty straight-forward even a computer illiterate person could do it with the right tools using the iFixit guides!

Hi, I think that Lion is not the reason, a friend of mine has the same exact model as yours and playing minecraft he gets the same problem under SL. Not sure what it can be, though :S

The pre-release might be the problem, as it might be badly coded or something.

Yeah, Minecraft isn't exactly the most well made game on the market.

It is a beta what do you expect?

    ----------

mine craft ran way better under SL no crashes no heat issues or anything:( although I have upgraded my ram to 8 GB hardly an improvement.

I've been playing Minecraft on my 5 year old MacBook Pro with a Core Duo, 2GB RAM, and Radeon x1600 and I've never had an issue.

I have it set to "fancy" graphics and the render distance as normal and my fans never get above 3500 RPM. I'm on OS 10.6.8

From my side, I didn't see any difference between Lion and SL on my white MacBook. IMHO it is somehow related to the hardware (but I'm not a technician, just a student :D).

Just curious, did Minecraft 1.0 fix your issue?

It's more like "what do you expect?" (hence the reason you started this thread)

Anyways, when can you elaborate on what exactly runs slow?

Don't see the difference that much, and I'd rather drain my windows laptop battery not my macbooks
