I have an Air 2 and love it very much I used it for watching Netflix and movie. I have no reason to buy a Mini because I just bought a new LG G Pad F 8.0 last week. 8 inches screen is nice I tried with Netflix it was awful especially with closed captioned. I use it to play games.

I actually don't mind the 7.9" screen of the Mini for watching videos, even though I watch a lot of subtitled anime. I mean, some people watch movies on their phones.

I was able to watch NHL and YouTube fine on the mini; but the Air 2 is still better for watching videos for me. Always nicer to have a more immersive viewing experience

I have been in this dilemma for years. Literally years...since Air & Mini 2 came out. That was the time when the only difference between Air & Mini is only the screen.

Spec-wise, I guess Air 2 would win. Bigger screen which amounts to 50% more screen area than Mini 4. A8X compared to A8.

But I end up picking Mini 4. Although Air 2 has bigger screen-size, I feel Mini 4 is more convenient to use. Easy to browse on your bed or on the go. Easier to hold in 1 hand thus enabling one-handed usage. It still has the same resolution as Air 2 so detail-wise there won't be any loss. And in regard to processing power, I am not sure which games or apps actually utilize the 3rd processor core in A8X. I dont feel any loss in using A8 actually. Lastly, iPad Mini suffered less vibration speaker issue compared to its Air 2 counterpart. I compared them side-by-side by playing same song on youtube on the same volume level.

That totally depend on your current gadget arsenal and what you plan to do with it.
For me, I don't use messenger bag/backpack very often. If I were going to get Air/Pro.
They absolutely prevent me to use them outside of my apartment.

The extra performance and screen real estate in Air 2 is very nice.
But not nice enough to sacrifice mobility for me.

That being said, if I were a backpack/messenger bag kind of guy. I probably would choose Air over Mini.

Got to admit I'm loving my mini 4 mor and more. That said I have thought about selling my air due to thinking do I need both? As for bigger screen I have the MacBook Pro for a lot of tasks so do I need the air?

Maybe not but can't help but like to pick up the air every now and then. I love having the option but could I depend on just the mini 4 as my only tablet? I think so

That is a great point, if you already have a MBP it makes sense to keep the mini over the air IMO. I still have that "grass is greener" thing between the two iPads, I always think in the back of my head that the other would be better no matter which size I use; but ultimately I need the air 2 for the bigger screen for my textbooks. Apart from that though, I actually think the mini 4 makes more sense for me; that is of course, if I wasn't using textbooks.

IMO with the plus sized phones nowadays, the Air is the logical choice.

If you have a regular size iPhone 6, I can understand a mini but to me the iPhone Plus and iPad mini fight for the same thing.

I'm rocking a 6S Plus and an Air 2 right now but I think from time to time of going to an iPad Pro because my iPhone has become my "tablet", so to speak.

I'm considering going to the 7 plus from a 6 so I'm glad I have the air 2 for this. However, I do enjoy the 6 size so I'll have to see. Either way the big screen of the air 2 doesn't hurt!

I personally disagree in that respect. There's still a notable difference in a 5.5" phone and a 7.9" tablet to me. The larger screen and 4:3 aspect ratio make a big difference in reading and web surfing, as well as allowing for split screen multitasking. Also, an iPhone can't run iPad apps.

Wouldn't say that at all to be honest

The web browsing experience is still a big difference from the plus to the mini.

Also a lot of apps still aren't built for the plus compared to quality iPad apps

Agreed. Obviously it's a subjective thing, but I have a 6+ and a Mini 4 and the 6+ doesn't even come close as far as experience.

Again, I'm not seeing how the Air 2 is "MUCH MUCH" faster than the Mini 4. I suspect that people who are saying that haven't really used them both.

Agreed. 'Barely perceptible' if anything - I would say 'on par'. The Air 2 is Much much faster than the Mini 2/3, but not the 4.

taken my air 2 to game on planes, long car journeys and holidays, to play games. Love it, haven't used a mini for gaming at all though. In regards to speed, I would assume the air 2 has the advantage in high detailed games, because of the better GPU & somewhat better CPU(due to the extra core). The Mini should give you better performance then your 6, anyway, because of the 2GB RAM, and the slightly higher clock

Yeah, I would say that "on par" is the best description. The difference might be noticeable for graphic intensive games, but for most other tasks I think you would have to be using the tablets side by side to tell the difference.

As I've said before, the size/form factor should be what one makes their decision based on. The CPU difference isn't going to matter in most scenarios, and the specs of the two devices are the same in all other regards.

I'm going to have to disagree.

The web browsing experience in the plus vs regular size was night and day, very astronomical. In fact I almost never used my iPhone for serious browsing until I went from 6 to 6S Plus. The size difference is huge. The iPhone plus models do want I want an iPad mini to do and TBH I don't use any iPad specific apps. Mostly social media stuff that is already on iPhone and sometimes (in the case of Instagram, Snapchat and Periscope) not on the iPad.

I think for Plus owners the Air 2 or Pro is the logical choice. The mini is good, but for me there wasn't enough difference between it and the Plus for my uses and from what I hear, most people's uses as I've heard of others ditching their mini's after getting a plus.

To each their own but I still say that the overall larger display and wider aspect ratio make the mini far better for web browsing if nothing else than any phone.

I gotta agree. I took a look at the mini in a cellular store today and I realalized, even with my iPhone 6, the air 2 makes more sense. The lightness difference isn't that much: the air 2 is a very light tablet for its size and just in general it is light and easy to hold. And so since my iPhone 6 is already a decent size, I realized it just makes more sense to have the air 2.

I totally get that

I guess it depends what you would use your mini for. Me personally? I use it alot at work for on the go and working nights I watch either football or NBA for example. I use it at my GF house to grab and browse far easier there.

the air 2
The perfect size for at home. It’s the tablet I grab when relaxing at home but could I watch it at work? No it’s too big and obvious.

Not counting work could I take it out and about on a data plan? Yeah I certainly could. It’s something I’m considering for the air 3.

I have a data plan with my mini 4 so If I want to use my air as a data plan I will buy the wifi and data tablet and just take out my mini 4 sim and put it in there. Will see when the time comes I guess.

I use the mini 4 as my PC basically. I actually prefer it to the regular ipad b.c the speed at which I can type. I hold it similar to the iphone (in portrait and type with my thumbs). I can do this very fast on the mini compared to the full size ipad. It is much easier with 1 handed use IMO.

That's another good point. For my hand size at least, the Mini in portrait is probably the best dimensions of any iOS device for thumb typing.
