While I would agree about RTFM, common sense is that Mac hardware "just works" and if I didn't know in advance I may have committed the same mistake.

well i didnt even really read the manual. but i do remember sumthing in bold that said, do not use mini discs, even with a picture

This makes me wonder. For school I need to install a USB->Serial adapter's drivers in order to use the cables they provide. The drivers, for some stupid reason, are on a mini-cd. I've searched endlessly and can't find the drivers online, they're some obscure Prolific driver. Anyways, do these CD's ALWAYS get stuck? Does it only happen less than 5% of the time? I need to do this, I have no other option. If I do it and bring it to an Apple store, is it always a free fix?

The slot load drive will NOT read the data off the disk. So whether it gets stuck or not is not relevant.

I did that silly thing too, but in my case I pushed the mini cd all the way in. It's out now though, all I did was slide in an envelope (one of those yellow coin envelopes) all the way in and when I pulled it out and the mini cd was out! Didn't have to shake my mac or anything. I think that it came out cause the envelope has a little bump at the edge where the paper is folded.

good luck!

Did you shake the Mac before you found out that it can't get out? I had the same problem with my Mini. Whatever I pressed it wouldn't get out. I guess I did some damage when I shook the Mini. So got my tools ready and took it apart. Got the disk out and worked fine. I found out to never shake my baby!

if you can still see the edge of the mini-cd in the drive there is hope

I stuck the mini-cd in the drive of my MBP, then realized it might have been the the wrong thing to do before pushing it in any further. So I could still see the edge of the mini-cd just inside the slot. I retrieved my stuck CD by resting the MBP on the right side (with the CD slot facing me and horizontal so the mini-CD wouldn't slide in any further), and gently wedging the slot open very slightly with my fingernails so I could slip one of those transparent plastic post-it notes (the little tabs used to mark textbook pages) in the slot, sliding the post-it tab across the slot and over the CD, adhesive side facing the CD. Then I squeezed the slot to get the post-it to stick to the CD, pulled the tab, and post-it and CD both came out together. YMMV but at least it's benign to try in this manner and you won't push it in any further.

The Wii drive is specially designed to support the smaller disks, it also has to spin "backwards" to play the GC disks. It's the *only* slot loader that I'm aware of to support the smaller disks.

I don't know where this rumor started, but that's simply not true. The GC discs are pretty much standard mini-dvds with a modified lead in. They spin in the proper direction. That's why certain PC drives can read them, and that's why GC discs burned onto a standard DVD-R work fine assuming the security has been circumvented.

This happened to me. What I did was, got a post-it note, and slide it into the drive, get the sticky part of the post it to grab the cd and then simply pull out. Worked first time for me.

I cannot tell you how thankful I am for this tip - I freaked out when I got a mini CD stuck in my Superdrive - neither did it read it nor did it eject it - and I tried everything possible till I finally tried your tip and it worked like a charm.

Thanks a ton once again! :)

Mini CD stuck - but free at last

I stuck a mini CD into my disc drive today just before I read that it was only to be used on a PC (like my dad always said, read the instructions) and spent the whole day trying to get it out. I called the Applecare people and was told since my 3 months from purchase was up, it would cost me $60 plus to ask one question. They sent me an article that I discovered was in the Help section of my MAC...and then I went to the online community....and the sticky note worked like a charm.

So thank you, thank you, thank you. Brilliance and resourcefulness out there in the MAC community never fails!!::

You could hook up an external CD Drive with a tray and read it from that.

Pulling out doesn't always work :D Sorry, I couldn't resist...

Thank you!!!

AHH.. the dreaded mini-cd stuck.

Happened to girlfriend's Macbook once, what I did was,
I turned it off, closed the lid, held it firmly and while the slot it facing the floor shook it a bit, forcefully but not in a huge sweep.

The CD came off the slot thanks to our good friend gravity.

Careful, don't hurl your laptop to the floor though.;)

Thanks so much!!! It came out right away! I was freaking out and thinking I would have to take it into the store, but your trick worked great!

Hi,

So i have stupidly done this, and when i was driving in the car with it, it accidentally fell down and when i looked the disk was out of the drive a little so i gently pulled it out. would this have damaged it at all though.

Did anyone actually go to get it checked after they got their mini disks stuck?

thanks:)

Can't you open the superdrive and take it out, and put it back together afterwards? Or am I just going over-the-top with this? :D

They do not spin backwards.. how is that myth still propagating.

Sticky tape and Business card worked!!

Hi . Just signed up to post on this thread because it saved me
A lot of time and hassle.

The business card, wrapped with backwards sticky tape worked.
It got it Out first go.

I tried tweezers - standard tweezers -
They actually pushed the disc further in as they were
To wide.

I then tried restarting and holding mouse down, and also shaking but no good.

So then went the sticky tape and card and bingo !!
Saved.

I won't tell you all the other things I tried that didn't work before Googleing.

Thanks !!
I've used Macs for years but had just never tried
Putting one of those discs in. Wont be tryin that again.

getting mini cds out of a mac book pro

this works: hold the computer on its side. slide in any card - credit card, whatever, as long as it has a magnetic strip on the back; make sure you have the side of the card with the magnetic strip face down as you slide it in: the card will grip your disc and all you have to do is slide it out. no need for tweezers, post it notes, or sticky tape!

I did the same thing !! tried to insert a mini CD and it got stuck .. My method is a bit dangerous but worked like a charm !! :) First get another NORMAL sized CD or DVD whatever .. then lift the macbook in the air and hold it in a way that the CD drive is looking to the ground... then with the NORMAL sized one push it in gently whilst keeping hold of it at all times until you hear the motor inside working... as soon as you do, get the NORMAL sized CD out of the drive as quick as possible and wait for it to pop out !! I checked mine afterwards and it seemed to worked.. hope it works for you too, gl ;)
