Nooooooooo. Was really hoping for a new bigger iMac this spring. My old 27” gave up before Xmas and the 24” inch is just too small and don’t want to invest in an outgoing model for 27”.

Guess I’ll have to keep using Shadow with my iPad and external monitor for now. Works really well, even for gaming, but I do really hate using Windows….

Apple's $4,999 Pro Display XDR has 576 local dimming zones, whereas 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros have 2,010 and 2,554 local dimming zones, respectively. I am guessing 27-inch iMac Pro will have more than 576 zones, but it is frankly unrealistic to expect 27-inch iMac to have as many local dimming zones while still hitting $4,999-5,999 price point.

$4.9K price point? The "iMac Pro" is suppose to replace the 'regular' iMac. So really around $2K . Unless there is a regular screen variant and a mini-LED upscale alternative (e.g. regular versus micro etched glass . only bigger price gap.)

If Apple is trying to bring this mini-LED back to the $2K-3K system price zone then dimming zones probably won't supersede the XDR. I'd be surprised if they try to supersede the XDR panel by a substantive margin. As opposed to just doing better than the "old" 5K screen.

It isn't like there is a huge excess supply of mini-LEDs to go around. If Apple shifts both iPad Pros to miniLEDs and maybe squeezed in another Macbook/laptop screen at higher zone density, then just filling that unit volume will be substantial in the environment that will likely continue for next year or so.

To notch, or not to notch: that is the question:
Whether ’tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of coloured bezels,
Or to take arms against a seeable webcam,
And by opposing end them?

Blooming will be very noticeable on a 27 inch screen…
i higly doubt that apple wpould put less leds in the imac since it has a bigger display. not everything those so called leakeres report is real they just like attention and i hope Apple get hold of all those leakers and and "insiders" to shut them down ones for all

I'd be very interested in a "pro" Mac mini. My M1 mini is no slouch and probably will be fine for the next few years. But shaving another few minutes off of FCPX renders would be welcomed.

So, we now have predictions for spring, fall, and summer. I’ll have to pick winter, since it’s the only open spot on the predictions bingo card. :)

If true, this is slightly disappointing. I was hoping to buy a27-inch iMac this spring. If it’s delayed until summer, I’ll probably hold off til fall to see what the Mac Pros have to offer. My requirements are right on the cusp. I don’t think I need (or want to spring for) a full-blown Mac Pro, but the rumored Mac Pro Mini might be attractive. How to replace the 5K monitor, though…

this is rather unfortunate if the 27" iMac doesn't have the level of miniLED as the macbook pro. a nice miniLED display is the biggest selling point for the computer. the ProMotion display is garbage. if you were to compare the macbook pro's ProMotion display to a 120/144hz display that you usually see in a gaming computer, i would put it in F tier.

It’s not necessary about the number of mini LEDs themselves, it can also be about the number of dimming zones. And it’s not unprecedented, the 32 inch Pro Display XDR has way less dimming zones than the 2021 MacBook Pro or iPad Pro.

Also, Ross Young is a very reliable leaker when it comes to displays. I will trust his knowledge more than yours

Fewer Mini-LEDs/zones than the iPads/MacBook Pros? Sounds scandalous. He's got a pretty decent record thus far so the fact that Apple's going with less in a pro product sounds disappointing.
Not really. The Pro Display XDR has fewer dimming zones the the iPad. Most high end mini-LED/QLED TVs have far fewer still. Even on the iPad Pro the blooming is only really noticeable when you are on very high brightness in a pitch black room. Additionally, the blooming on the new MBPs are much better than the iPad even before taking into account the additional dimming zones, so the hardware (or Apple's calibration) is improving.

They'll have to release it before the M2 for marketing reasons I guess but September is leaving it very late unless they leaving room for an August event with deliveries before the October events where the M2 products would expect to be released.

but will it have Target Display Mode? that is the true question. i wish a journalist from MacRumors would contact Apple and ask about Target Display Mode, along with external Apple displays that are not the Pro Display XDR.

Like I have said several times on here… the last M1 Macs are most likely coming at WWDC… it marks two years since the transition announcement…

Spring event will literally have… iPhone SE, iPad Air, maybe Watch SE and probably a new iPhone 13 colour option, Spring events have generally always been geared to the consumer market, very rarely to the Prosumer market, the most Pro launch in spring has been the iPad Pro.

I really hope there’s an AFFORDABLE larger iMac. If the Pro is like $2,000ish, ok fine. Old price of $5K? Hell no.

I don’t want to settle for a 24”, but if the only other option is very expensive then no deal.

Hopefully I can get a decent amount for my 2019 27”.

I’m in the market for an iMac and wondering what issues you were having.
8GB is not recommended nowadays. 16GB is good if you want to keep the machine for some years. 8GB is fine if you just want to browse the internet and do basic tasks but still is always worth to have more RAM if you can afford.
Other than that iMac 24'' is a fantastic machine!

XDR doesn't use MiniLED system so its not very good comparison.
