Fewer Mini-LEDs/zones than the iPads/MacBook Pros? Sounds scandalous. He's got a pretty decent record thus far so the fact that Apple's going with less in a pro product sounds disappointing.
Although it wouldn't be scandalous as others mentioned already I'm sure he meant less density. If the density scales with the DPI it will feel like the MacBook Pro screens.
Dang! I feel bad for those who are waiting for it. Total shame. I'm sure it will be worth the wait. Summer is not too far away. Perhaps, it will be release via a simple “press release”
I'm sure they will release them at an event.
I'm still using the OG retina 5K iMac and top out with macOS Big Sur. Come on, Apple. Does that mean no more regular bigger size iMac?
No it does not.
I really hope there’s an AFFORDABLE larger iMac. If the Pro is like $2,000ish, ok fine. Old price of $5K? Hell no.

I don’t want to settle for a 24”, but if the only other option is very expensive then no deal.

Hopefully I can get a decent amount for my 2019 27”.
I bet you a beer crate that a new larger iMac will also be available for less than $5000. :)

August-September??
At this point it should not have m1 pro and max cores based on a14 but on a15 !!!

So glad I got off this train back in 2020 and bought the last intel iMac loaded for any remaining x86 items for a while and MBP M1 Max for on the go to get the best of both worlds.
Was originally thinking the same thing as I did get a 2019 27". However after getting a M1 MBA and see how fantastic it was and not really requiring Intel anymore (I used to run VMs of both Windows and various Linux distress) I'm ready to ditch Intel for good. Of course if the price skyrockets I might change my mind again!

We haven’t heard any leaks that suggest a $5,000 starting point. The only source for those claims are a few people in this group who think an iMac has to be at least that expensive or Apple isn’t allowed to call it “Pro”. Fortunately, Apple does not require their permission.

Except for literally every single leak about the “standard” 27-inch iMac. All of which have said it will be called the “iMac Pro”.
With respect, that’s not quite true. Any information about this product line that has been labelled as a leak - not simply an analysts wish list - has described components or specs of at least one unit. But this doesn’t rule out the possibility that Apple will release a more consumer-orientated product, just because that information hasn’t been sourced.

I just find it hard to believe that Apple could meet that 1,800-2,000 RRP with a device that is, essentially, a much larger MBP.

Like I have said several times on here… the last M1 Macs are most likely coming at WWDC… it marks two years since the transition announcement…

Spring event will literally have… iPhone SE, iPad Air, maybe Watch SE and probably a new iPhone 13 colour option, Spring events have generally always been geared to the consumer market, very rarely to the Prosumer market, the most Pro launch in spring has been the iPad Pro.
per the transition PR
Apple plans to ship the first Mac with Apple silicon by the end of the year and complete the transition in about two years.
That has kinda two interpretations, the first is this WWDC announcement is the start, but it could also imply that it starts with the first Macs with Apple Silicon shipped.

Given the Apple couldn't really rush this, its likely to most wrap up Fall 2022 IMHO. They seem to be releasing less in spring and more towards the mid and end of the year. There is also discussion of Macs using multiple M1 Mac SoC's. ;)

Makes sense that they would launch it at WWDC. I believe Apple wants to position this as a machine that can rival the 2019 Mac Pro or outdo it. I think internally they are battling whether they want to continue doing a modular Mac Pro. Yes, here we go again. The Mac Pro is such a niche thing. Personally, I deploy computers all day and I am not seeing any need for large towers except for some very narrow use cases.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Apple just keeps around the current Intel Mac Pro for years.

But is Apple still planning to update the iMac 27 inch this year? Its been at least 72 hours since the last leak, and maybe it's been cancelled.

Glad I didn't try and hold out for this machine then. Just grabbed a spec'd up 16" and finally swallowed the absurd price of the XDR. After getting past the price, it's a truly lovely setup and has massively upgraded my workflow, which is the bottom line anyway. I'm sure this machine will be great when it does ship and much needed for many in the lineup.

Bummer. My main production business machine (2015 iMac 5K which I love) just started to develop LCD burn in a bit. Switched to a white background, and I'm hoping to replace it this year with a new one. Or, if they release the external display, maybe do an mac mini pro and that instead? Either way, stoked at Apple really returning to launching new and exciting macs. The future for the mac really does look bright.

Did you know Pro XDR display isn’t even mini-Led?
So its FALD (576 full-array local dimming zones), the only mini-LED implementation is the 16" MBP, 14" MBP and the newest 12.9" iPad Pro. So anyone here really think the 27"+ iMac is going to need a mini-LED? The current 27" iMac is edge lit.

Recently

The report said that while "speculation about the next-generation 27-inch iMac coming with a miniLED display" has been circulating for some time, the new all-in-one desktop machine will, in fact, not feature a mini-LED panel, according to its sources.

DigiTimes' reporting goes at odds with credible display analyst Ross Young, who just as early as this month reaffirmed that the upcoming iMac will feature a mini-LED panel and support for ProMotion.

Despite its lack of a mini-LED panel, today's report claimed that the LCD display for the upcoming iMac is improving. "LED chips used in its display are up 30-40% from the previous models, giving it a higher brightness," the report said.
Watch it be only FALD over edge lit. ;)

With these delays members here just want a decent display on the larger iMac, but not necessarily mini-LED because of $$.

You moron, you seat further away from a desktop computer. So the difference will be negligible. Did you know Pro XDR display isn’t even mini-Led?
the distance you sit away from a screen is a pixel size thing and much less a local dimming thing. the 27" imac will look worse than the macbook pro if it has less local dimming zones

While I’m looking forward to what these things can do, what I really want are the new iPad Air and MacBook Air they’re supposedly going to release this year.

Mid 2010 27" i7 here.. and as per usual.

Arghhhhh I need it now, I'm going mad with this 8GB 24" M1 iMac!
Why do they even make an 8GB model? Nothing but bad publicity for the lack of upgradeability, as everyone suffers the buyer's remorse of discovering too late, that 8GB just doesn't cut it on M1. Back in the good old days, you could just slot in an extra 8GB, but now the only way to do it is to trade it for a new machine. And ouch, what a whoppingly expensive and time consuming 8GB that turns out to be! And why do people even buy the 8GB model in the first place? Because of the insane Apple Tax they whack on top of the 16GB option.

I am still rocking my 2015 15" Retina MBP (a brilliant, but aging machine), and look at the new 16" M1 MBP's with lust, but the Apple tax they throw onto the 32GB/2T model makes my eyes water. So I wait patiently, and meanwhile, my current machine chugs on, happily handling everything I throw at it, all day long, day in, day out. Long may it reign.
