Make sense, they should push to release before the school period starts. Feel sorry for you who bought the M1 now because you dissapointed the new MBP didn't get released last WWDC 2021. Should've waited a bit ;)
Unless the new MBP replaces the M1s at the same pricing, I’m not budging on my order. It’s not really worth the extra $300 for me.

So nothing stopping Apple releasing a Mac mini M1X then!?
would be nice their fastest Mac would then be their cheapest...maybe thats the reason.

I think they would want to announce the M1X and it’s capabilities at an event, I expect all the M1X stuff is going to be launched at one event… and all launch with Monterey it wouldn’t make sense for Apple to hold an event next month launching M1X and a Mac Mini, then hold another event in October, that would be 3 Mac launch events in 2021…

If Apple isn’t going to have machines for people to buy, then they need to drop their plans to obsolete the 2013-2014 MBPs.

I don't have problems with the old displays, whatever they are. There might be shortages of other components causing problems. They are shipping the Intel notebooks which implies that the old stuff is still available.

@pshufd

Sure they maybe able to get the old displays but they for sure won't fit into that 14" model and even the 16" might be slightly off.

And thats before all the bad signals such a move would send.

They could just use the existing 16 case - actually replacing it in the 16 would be an option too.

Don’t understand Apple no need to go mini led just stick with the current and get the M1X out by time they sort out supply M1X will be yesterday everyone will be holding back for M2

The number one reason I'm dying to get my hands on the new 16" inch is only a better processor. Because I love my 16" intel Macbook, it's the best computer in the world right now according to me. I also owned the M1 Macbook Air, but that computer is too slow for me, like half the speed compared to my 16" since I use some programs, like in music production, 3D, and virtual machines that requires me to run multiple instances of Rosetta meaning M1 is like 70% slower than my 16" Macbook Pro.

But for all other use cases which I do most of the time, the M1 is much better and quieter and better battery life and some other advantages. So if they put up a laptop with somewhat twice the power of M1 (in multicore) that would be a much better overall one for me than my current 16" that moves its fan and heats up to hot to touch 90% of the time since I'm often using an external display.

But overall the current 16" is still amazing, cause I tested the latest top speech Dell XPS and Razer one this spring and they really sucked compared to the 16" inch Macbook Pro, so I don't get why people, in general, don't get that.

After they already designed everything for the new case? Don't think so.
Also remember that the number of 16" MBPs sold today would be dwarfed by the number of M1X MBPs ordered.

We also don't know if they even have more of the old displays ordered if they had hoped till the last minute to ship new MBPs soon. Could be that the supply of the old ones are about to dry up.

Remember apple design these products years in advance… what’s been leaked can quite easily be next years model or even the year after.

Also keeping the same design language is completely possible… they refreshed the iMac design on the entry level first… but they haven’t done that with the MacBook Pro or the MacBook Air… so there is potential they could just throw an M1X in the current design and be done til next year or the year after.

It sort of makes sense to have the whole line up having the Touch Bar too, rather than just the entry level MBP.

I have to agree. What is the constant obsession with the latest screen technology on their laptops? I find the past several years of laptops and iMacs having beautiful screens.

M1 was released in November and I bought an M1 MBA right away and really like it all around. It's practically mid-June and Apple hasn't even given us the normal "this product will be available in X weeks" talk. Apple has historically "announced" every product before customers are actually able to buy them. I think Apple, years ago, announced the Mac Pro 6 months in advance. Macs in general have been announced several weeks in advance. Currently with no talk about an M1 successor or upcoming larger iMacs or upcoming MBPs, I would lean towards Apple having a CPU problem/shortage.

I don't think Apple was set to release an M1x (or whatever you want to call a minor upgrade to the M1) at all. My thinking is Apple would release a true, M2 chip with a big upgrade and that chip should be delivered sometime this Fall. Therefore, this would be the reason we are not seeing the upcoming/faster performing machines right now and no real leaks. Maybe a hardware announcement will come in October. Remember that the point of the larger iMacs and MBPs are for people who want far better horsepower. Advertising to me that I need to spend a boatload more money to get a "new" M1x CPU that is 15% faster than a 1-year old CPU is not attractive. The MBPs we are waiting for are $2200+ and the iMacs are probably $2200+ also. They better have a fantastic CPU compared to their siblings costing 1/2 the price.

I love my MBP 16”, best computer I’ve ever owned. The only negative thing is it heats up a bit if connected to an external monitor, but since the screen is a decent size I never do that anyway.

After a year and a half of daily use battery life is great, still runs all my apps quickly, and as I don’t use an external monitor heat/fan noise isn’t a thing. No Bluetooth issues, or wifi drops. Great speakers, gorgeous screen, good keyboard. Love it.

...But unlike the touch bar (the loss of which would be a significant downside, with nothing good about it), magsafe returning is a toss-up: the "snap off cleanly" magnetic connector is definitely handy. And I'd assume one could charge the MB Pro via USB3 as well anyway.

I just don't get this - are Apple users unusually clumsy? Seriously. I've been using nothing but laptops and 2-in-1 devices since a Toshiba T1100 Plus in 1986 and not ONCE have I tripped over a power cord. Why would everyone be so willing to sacrifice a TB4 port for a disconnecting power supply?

Shortages? This is all Hype! This MBP hasn't been on the boards for release this year...period! It's sad that the attention seekers and click bait mongers are spreading these falsehoods non stop and eager consumers are lapping it up.
Mid 2022 for the new MBP. Enough with the HYPE!

Apple users may have babies, children, cats, dogs or other pets that could pull the wire off.

You might be an older person that may nod off while using a laptop as well. Stuff like cancer can do that to you.
