The actual mode has to be 3840×2560, not 1920×1280.
(The "looks like 1920×1280" HiDPI setting is then automatically added by macOS.)

After adding the actual mode, assuming it shows as "Active", switch to the "Available resolutions" tab and select the 1920×1280 HiDPI mode whose refresh rate matches the one of the 3840×2560 mode you just created.

Ahhh Gotcha. Managed to get it with 50hz and then switch to 1920x1280 @ 60hz and worked. Thank you!!! Appreciate your help

My monitor arrived today. 1080p hidpi resolution seems the most ideal option. I wish we could get a better image quality in 2K. However, i must admit that we needing a minimum of 5K resolution for 2k hidpi.

I tested the monitor's microphone with a Facetime call, but when I selected the monitor's microphone, I noticed that the mic is not working. Anyone experiencing a similar issue?

Update: This happens when I connect a headset without a microphone to the monitor. When I disconnect the headset from the monitor, the microphones work.

As I said in another thread, I'm getting a model... Should I run both via USB-C or 1x DP and another USB-C? I have a Dell Thunderbolt 3 Dock btw.

Shouldn’t matter. But your dock probably doesn’t have two USB-C ports with DisplayPort Alternate Mode, so…
Yeah was just thinking of putting a 2nd USB-C between the Mac and monitor but I'd just use the TB3 connector for everything..

I’d hook up one monitor to the dock’s downstream Thunderbolt port (via the USB-C cable) and the other to the dock’s DisplayPort output.

Many thanks for you tips on this thread. I was really keen on getting a 3:2 screen and loved the aesthetics of this monitor, however for me productivity and functionality mean more, if it looks breath then that is a huge bonus.

My main gripe with this monitor was the ports, no tb3, no DP1.4 and No HDMI 2.1 - really left a lump in my throat. I am glad that this has proved not to be an issue and 4k, at 60hz is feasible.

Out of interest, Is the usbc on the Huawei usb 3 gen 2 20gbs? It's the only way i could figure how it runs 4k @60hz and add further USB ports.

Do you think it's a problem that this monitor doesn't have dp 1.4? Also, what is the disadvantage of not having thunderbolt3?

It’s USB 2.0. I just checked. Reason: DisplayPort 1.2 doesn’t allow 3840×2560 at 60 Hz plus USB 3.x via USB-C.

If it did, it would be able to “do” 3840×2560 at 60 Hz plus USB 3.x via USB-C.

No ability to “do” 3840×2560 at 60 Hz plus USB 3.x or daisy-chain another DisplayPort/Thunderbolt/USB-C monitor to it (…because there’s no downstream Thunderbolt port), lower power delivery wattage, lower cost (;))

What do you work with the most? For me it was a huge upgrade.. I'm coming from a single 21:9 display to dual 3:2 monitors and it pretty much changes everything for me due to the terminal windows, now I can have more terminals with more vertical space to read logs and put more command chains.

Plus it's great overall browsing and emails

I wonder how this Huawei monitor compares to other 4K's at this price point? I see it's on Amazon UK for 499. That puts it in similar territory to the LGUL850, possibly the Dell Ultrasharp 27 inch if you can get a good deal, Ben Q also... just curious as I have been waiting for what seems like an age to update my old 27 inch iMac for the new M1 larger version – whenever it comes out. I almost bought the LG and a Mac Mini at the weekend but stopped myself...

I am sorry but I feel it's ugly. Granted beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. I am not talking specs here. I prefer the design of this hp for instance. As 5k goes I think a lot of people prefer an affordable screen matching Mac aesthetics with a decent cam, microphone and speakers built-in.

I like my HP Z27 G3 with barely any bezels, but I also like the Huawei. It certainly isn’t ugly. I’d be happy with either on my desk, but the decision wouldn’t be down to looks, it would be the features, and the 3:2 of the Huawei would be the decider if I didn’t already have the HP.

The problem with monitors (and many other products) is the manufacturers look at what they “think a lot of people prefer” and all produce similar items for that market, meaning they all compete there, and leave others without options. I’m glad Huawei have produced this monitor, and like the way it looks. It has certainly made more of an impact than a me-too product. I just wish they’d gone all out with the 4500x3000 panel used in the Microsoft Surface Studio, and given it the HDMI 2.1 and DP 1.4 it would have needed. Hopefully that comes next.

Thanks, I'm thinking about buying a mini dp to usb-c cable to prevent the monitor from charging the Macbook. In this case, is it possible to theoretically get 60hz if there is no problem with the cable?

Here (MODS: I'm not affiliated with this!!!) is the panel. Here (MODS: I'm not affiliated with this!!!) is a controller board (the same one used for the DIY 5K display projects BTW). Now to find a case/housing...

Should be no problemo.

My iMac is my main machine, i use for work [phd informatics and bio stats] and for writing research manuscripts
I also use Autodesk and fusion for working with 3d models. SO im not looking for a gaming monitor and the huawei hits all areas for my user case - main issue is they cheated out in omitting tb3/dp1.3/hdmi2.1 - i mean even one of the would of been great!

My current setup:

For my new setup, the huawei will go on the right where the LG is and LG will now move to the left-side and be rotated vertical to replace the dell 27" ultra sharp which ill take to work

interesting

I wish huawei would release updated version of this monitor with tb3
