I got a Newegg Gift card for Christmas and want to use it to upgrade my Late 2009 Mini from 2GB to 8GB.

On Newegg, the 2x4GB kit is $121.99, but the individual 4GB sticks are only $50.99. If I'd buy 2 of the individual sticks, they should work just as well as the pack would, right?

Yeah, they should work just fine. However, this is 7$ cheaper if you want to save few bucks ;)

I thought I was seeing something wrong with a $20 difference between the 2 pack and the individual. Guess not.:)

I appreciate ya, Hellhammer! I'm gonna stick with the Crucial brand, but thanks for looking out.

That is a great deal, but Hellhammer's right, they won't take my Newegg GC. Gotta say I am pretty stoked about $100 for 8GB RAM. Prices have fallen so much lately.

BTW, are you the same Philip from 123MM?

I thought the late 2009 mini accepted only a max of 4GB in total?

Maybe according to Apple. Unofficially all nVidia Mac Minis can take 8GB of RAM

Originally, however there was an EFI update for it early in 2010 (April?) that allowed it to officially support 8Gb RAM.

yes and I am one and the same.
I go to this site a lot more since I grabbed a mac pro.

I am sorry I missed the gift card line. I am too tired from shoveling snow. 31 inches in my home town of Howell NJ!

As for the 2009 mini using 8gb yes they had the EFI update in fall of 2009 and now all come with the update in them if you buy a 2009 mini at the refurb store.

That makes two of us :p I'm starting to think that Mount Everest will soon be the second highest mountain, right after the pile of snow in our yard...
