i guess your original mini has the same processor speed and 2x's wifi speed built into it. Im sorry but i notice a huge difference. No choppiness with ios7. If you don't notice it now just wait till ios8. The original mini was built with 2 year old technology(a5). At least it was close to 2 years old. it will be dated as they update the software.
its like going from an iPad 2 to a rmini... or air...

I get the specs and I even stated that the processor was faster...benchmarks blow it away. But I haven't seen it in usage while browsing or using any of the apps I use all the time. Again, I don't game so I'm sure there is a huge difference.

When iOS 8 comes out and a more powerful rMini, I'll likely upgrade then (probably wouldn't put iOS8 on this 1st gen Mini). Only sooner if I find a really really good deal on one.

You made that wrong choice, what you should have done was trade your ipad mini 1st gen for an air.

The air is pretty much a big mini. The screen size on it is sooooo nice! Its hard to go back to a 7.9" screen after.

Well, I did not have multiple hundreds of dollars to use in your suggested trade. I did however have an 'already paid for' 1st gen mini to trade for something. So I got an even swap on the 3. Remember, my main tablet is a 32gb rMini. That is the only tablet that I want and the only tablet that I use. But now I also have a 3 just for fun at no additional cost.

.

I bought a mini last fall and passed on the rmini because I feared production issues similar the ipad 3. I find the mini incredibly responsive--even with ios7 and now 7.1. The only performance lag i see is opening large apps like garage band--which i do not use often. At $300 it is an outstanding value.

This thread made me realize that for many users the ipad is an important personal accessory. I really dont value it that much--its just a convenience to read in bed. Occasionally I will pull out my original ipad and i am impressed at how well it loads pages. Nothing--however--is coming between me and my Surface. Its a revolutionary device. Cmon apple--put on your big boy pants and make a pen interface

They should have included TouchID in both the Mini and Air. Boggles my mind that they didn't do this or were not able to do this (supply issues maybe). They are saying we care about security and ease of use when you use an iPhone but well not so much when you use your iPad.

Actually--few care either way: touch id has not been a game changer

My point is that while some may see a benefit from the retina screen, some of us find the regular screen quite sharp enough for our purposes and our vision.

I still recall the posts about the mini screen being "toal crap" and giving people headaches. Yes--it is a sharper display. No, i really dont care

I'd say Apple is doing just the opposite of 'slacking off'. They're leading the pack. They're innovating, delivering amazing products and continue to revolutionize portable computing.

While i think of the ipad as revolutionary in a sense--I see it as part of the larger smartphone touchscreen revolution. I dont see any of the subsequent ipads as really introducing anything "revolutionary" to the product experience.

Similarly--since 2005 and the intel mac--its been evolutionary on the apple pc business. I would also say itunes was revolutionary--and the idea of an ecosystem was Jobs greatest achievement. It was great for apple and consumers. I dont see anything revolutiony happening in wearables or tv --or car... Internet of things--maybe

Boy, was I wrong when I started this thread. The rMini screen is so much better than the original mini that there is no contest of should we have kept our originals. Soooooo much better for viewing documents or anything with small printed text.
