Most models are readily available at apple stores if you live near one. Even some BTO ones.

Is there a way to check stock? I need a mostly maxed 15" (512GB or 1TB drive). Didn't think those would be stocked anywhere.

Call the store directly and say manager when it asks for a promp. They usually carry the 13"-3.3, 16gb, 512 and 15" 2.9, 16gb, 1tb 460 and a couple of other 15" as well from what I've read

i dont have the new mbp but my various mb air and mb12" eventually develop a creak. it seems the chassis works itself loose. can be rectified (temporarily, and somewhat) by tightening the screws on the bottom case.

never had it with older mbp 13" however

This guy looked around his room and found a solution... oil.

Hah a little worried of trying to force mechanics oil into my laptop. maybe tightening the screws will help a little, but I gotta feeling all of the MacBooks will have this issue. Mine is not anything like his, in that it's a quick "click" if the computer hasn't moved in a while then it goes away. I think its the bottom plate stretching a little, which all MacBooks would do...

I think that if you squish the bottom plate you will feel creaks constantly. I'll not do that on my new machine though, the one that I brought in for exchange has been thoroughly tested by me and I found that defect.

Yeah, I don't mean trying to make it happen on purpose. I can't reproduce it. I mean it makes a noise when picking up if it's been sitting for a bit. I think it may be the bottom plate not completely tightened.

Mine makes the occasional click when picking it up by the corner. Also, if I close it, turn it over and apply pressure to various points on the bottom plate, it clicks gently. Normal, I think, given the flexibility of aluminium.
