Then you should start petitioning your local devs to work on it ;)

Or just use the Google Maps web app if that works for you.

There aren't really any local devs for my area..
I think 3rd party integration for public transport and such could have been a reasonable alternative to having it built in, if there were 3rd party apps available for areas. The idea that we should have to "petition" for this functionality is about as good an argument as simply holding your phone a different way because the antenna is flawed, which coincidently taught us that its not a good idea to try and paper over important flaws.

Sorry man, not sure what you expected with your post.

Sure, it sucks that the new maps don't have transit directions for your area, but you still have access to what you've been using with the Google Maps web app, with the exact same transit directions as before :)

Yes thats what I'm planning to do, although the mobile browser based map is not as enjoyable to use, its functionality is vital.
I feel I may have misinterpreted what you were saying as an attempt to protect apple maps rather than an attempt to find a work around to my problem :D

This is a badly needed feature. Sadly I don't think we'll be seeing HopStop in the UK beyond London for some time, not all the world lives in America or token European mega cities you know.

Which cities in the UK would you be interested in?

Don't worry, I can see how my post could've come off that way. Hopefully Jaynor can help you out, as I'm guessing he/she works for HopStop undercover

Throughout Canada, most of the major cities' transport authorities offer an app of some sort. Le Société de transport de Montréal, the Toronto Transit Commission both offer an app in the app store, and Metro Vancouver's TransLink offers a pretty full-featured mobile website. Here in Calgary, our transit commission insists on being behind the times in veritably every way, so we haven't an app or a mobile website -- making Google Maps' transit features very helpful. HopStop seems to work with Calgary Transit, which is good -- the other app I was using didn't respond to the spring/summer/fall service changes, which led to some unpleasant surprises and a greater than normal amount of rage at our transit system. I'll give Hopstop a try.

Glasgow would be the most useful, although I don't live in the city center so make that Glasgow and surrounding areas.

I passed the request along. Feel free to send an email to feedback at hopstop.com to ask for Glasgow support as the more requests that come in the more likely HopStop will support Glasgow.

The iPad app has been updated to integrate into Maps, and it looks great! Looking forward to the iPhone release.

Another good app is TransitTimes+, works in 50 cities around the world. It's not free though, but personally I think it's worth the $2.99 (Canadian).

I'm going to give HopStop a try too.

HopStop is crap.

It insists on putting me on a ferry, no matter how many times I click reroute or alternate route.

Eventually, it will tell me to take the path train, but it won't tell me to take it the logical way. No, it'll send me up to Hoboken, then into NYC, then have me walk a mile.

Go ahead and try it yourself. Essex/Greene st in Jersey City to Grand Central.

It's nonsensical. Path to WTC, 4 or 5 into GC is by far the fastest. Google Maps gave me that.

How am I supposed to trust it for routes I am NOT familiar with?

HopStop gives you the route you want:

You can check out the details of the route here (if you are on your desktop): http://hopstop.com/?tid=6zqkinm8i8h9pvo5

Offline

My only complaint with hopstop is that it has no offline functionality. Embark allows me to select stations of where i want to travel or even use addresses without a data connection. If hopstop had this it would be perfect.

Been using HopStop in NYC for a long time now, and it has never failed me. Definitely my favorite public transit app!
