The players have long wanted a shorter season, and it looks like they might get their wish, this year at least…
They won't want to lose their salary though. So I don't think they have ever called for a shorter season.

Looks like its more of the same, MLB offers a slightly re-tweaked offer that isn't much different then previously rejected offers. Players do the same.

I guess they say down yesterday for 5 hours - I'm so far removed from contract negotiations of any kind, I'm kind of baffled as to how they can be in one room all day and only come up with a small change

as an expo fan this petty crap is 1994 all over again,

these cement headed suits and ties sitting behind fancy desks and squabbling for the scraps from Manfred's table that they've missed your Fehr-given right to something better, just be happy your clients can afford that 3rd house on Marco Island without playing a Seilg-dammed inning.

Cartoons...?

The owners underestimated the players this time. Not going to be a cake walk deal this time around.
The players realized at how much they screwed themselves out of money last CBA, so yes. The player's association is going around beating the drum of unity every chance they get.

The acrimony between the owners and the union was on full display prior to the '20 (COVID-shortened) and '21 seasons, as was their style of negotiation.

Little wonder that has carried over to the even larger task of agreeing on a new CBA, which will rule for the next four years.

I enjoy the game, but yeah, they'll work it out when the work it out…

Once the lockout was announced a shortened season was inevitable. Now the only question is how many games will be cut.
The owners want a short season so they don't have to pay the players. The players will wait them out to prove a point.

I would think even the bottom of the barrel teams would pull a profit, might not be the numbers of say the Yankees, but I imagine it is still a decent number.
I have to say its just ridiculous that the commissioner of baseball would in effect be crying poor mouth and implying how those poor poor owners are struggling financially.
