Manfred is merely a tool of the owners. MLB hasn't had a commissioner who's pushed back on the owners' whims in a long, long, long time, and Manfred is by far the weakest commissioner baseball has ever had.

The owners, left unchecked, would allow their greed to ruin baseball. Revenues have gone up dramatically, and ownership has grabbed an ever-increasing percentage of the revenues from the players, but the owners' primary modus operandi has primarily been to crush the player's union. Not that I think Tony Clark has done a stellar job as president of the player's union.
The players used to be a strong union. Now they let the owners walk all over them.

I have to agree with Kurkjian in this video: https://www.espn.com/video/clip/_/id/33400395

The point is how damaging is this stoppage to Baseball and he goes on to detail how Baseball as a sport has contracted, not grown over the past few years. How there's less people buying tickets, less people watching and less overall interest.

I've said this before, the last major work stoppage, hurt the brand, and I don't think it fully captured all of the fans that it lost. Some returned, to be sure but many did not. I know a number of baseball fans that stopped watching or caring from that stoppage.

There's other factors to MLB's decreasing fanbase but one thing is for sure, this isn't good for the game.

This is pretty much me. I really only catch up now during the playoffs. I will catch a game here or there, and only if I go the game, but I have pretty much lost a lot of interest that I once had for the game.

I was ready to go when they said they were close to an agreement. Turns out the owners were just blowing smoke about a deal being close. Now I couldn't care less if they play or not this year.

So petty, the world needs normalcy. This could have been the first major sport to start a season post pandemic (hopefully) with no crazy restrictions etc. On top of the chaos in the world baseball is just another thing that America could have used to get it's mind of the crap...but greedy people who play a game for a living (owners and players) are selfish *******s.

I have a lot of sympathy for the players, it’s not easy to get paid what you’re worth in a corporate environment where the machine is looking out for the interest of shareholders and owners. I wish them well and if they need to do some damage in the process, they will have my blessing.

That said, I only follow the baseball season sporadically. I watch the play-offs a bit more, but really most of the regular season I catch up on the results once in a while. Its not worth it for me in Europe to get an MLB.tv subscription, the games are in the middle of the night, and even Red Sox - Yankees games I may just see the recap.

The Show 22? ;)
Not sure what that is...? Video game?

I’m a baseball fan and say screw the whiny little nellies. They turned off a lot of fans the last time they pulled this. If it were up to me I’d make so we the fans just decided to just not show up or pay a single bit of attention for one whole year. See how that works out for them. At least we aren’t seeing these sell outs.

They are getting paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to play a game....both the players and owners. Huge baseball fan and this is garbage on both players and owners.

horrible new name and logo.

Cleveland and Washington, nfl, both screwed the pooch on their respective rebrands.

Weren't the originally the Guardians? Ya The more I think about it Football team really dropped the ball. DC Commies is not the nickname they were looking for.
The Guardian's doesn't bother me nearly as much. I think it's stupid and virtue singaling, but it's not a terrible name and has some precedent...the Washington Football team on the other hand...insane.

No idea. If so it was a bad name way back when too...

They were the Spiders at one time. I thought that was pretty cool.
