The Giants... I have too many hats and other paraphernalia ... and a son named "McCovey"... so I can't hate them but...

Man is this team getting on my nerves...

Willie McCovey will always be my favorite Giant, even though I only got to see him play when he was 40 years old and couldn't run. My first game at the Stick, he hit a laser beam into the folded-up football seats in right field and very slowly limped around the bases — still one of my favorite Giants memories.

I hope it comes out who on the Giants gave the order to pull the plug on the Correa deal. Again, I strongly suspect someone ordered that they flag an issue in the physical in order to back out of the deal. There needs to be some accountability. We've been spoiled by how well-run the Giants have been in the post-Bonds era, but eventually things slip up. Do they proactively correct the problems, or let them fester and get worse?

Boras will have to be patient, and negotiate this time. Who's he going to play the Mets against, now that it seems there's fire behind that smoke?

That doesn't excuse how the Giants handled the situation, or make their own problems go away, but this may not turn out to be as one-sided as some think.
Seriously. That is the core for the anger/disappointment, I think, for most of our fans.

And now he's back on the table...?
I'm going to walk back my criticisms of the giants given how things seem to be playing out for the mets.

From last night: Mets, Carlos Correa optimistic deal will work out after physical concerns
The Mets and Correa’s camp have been said to be trying to work things out since the team mentioned an issue with Correa’s physical examination, which was performed Thursday and Friday in New York. The holdup, which was learned about Saturday, is believed to regard ankle surgery done in 2014, and a subsequent MRI.

I think Mets will still sign him, and if I were to guess, Correa won't give up too many concessions to make it happen. Boreas is too good of an agent, but, its a big but, it all depends on what they found.

Other teams like the twins pulled back in pursuing him;
Giants' Correa concerns made Twins pause in re-pursuing star

So the market may be significantly different for him, if the Mets suddenly get cold feet

Wow the total contract cost kept going down for Correa
Twins: 200 million
Mets: 315 million
Giants: 350 million

Each contract term was less then the prior offer this one is just 6 years and pending a physical - that's where things got messed up in the prior two attempts.

Going to be a "normal" contract before we know it... His dollar amount just keeps dropping... and dropping... Although 200 mil for six years is not to shabby... considering you are not locked into a single team for say 10 plus years!

Here are the details of the vesting options for Correa's contract. This would take it from 6/$200 to 10/$270.

Contract Notes:
  • Full No Trade Clause
  • 2029 Vesting Option: $25M
    vests with 1 of:
    575 2028 plate appearances
    Top 5 2028 MVP
    2028 Silver Slugger
    2028 LCS MVP
    2028 WS MVP
  • 2030 Vesting Option: $20M
    vests with 1 of:
    550 2029 plate appearances
    Top 5 2029 MVP
    2029 Silver Slugger Award
    2029 LCS MVP
    2029 WS MVP
  • 2031 Vesting Option: $15M
    vests with 1 of:
    525 2030 plate appearances
    2030 Silver Slugger Award
    Top 5 2030 MVP
    2030 LCS MVP
    2030 WS MVP
  • 2032 Vesting Option: $10M
    vests with 1 of:
    502 2031 plate appearances
    2031 Silver Slugger Award

I don't know how attainable those will be His last two seasons he was over 500 at bats, but the prior seasons well under. He has yet to win a silver slugger award and doing that on the wrong side of 30 (when those options seems to kick in) may be an uphill struggle as well.

He will be 34? when this one ends. If he is still healthy and playing well, someone will give him a 4 year deal at 80-100. And maybe more depending on where the market goes. He will have a chance to make most of it up if he stays healthy.

Brandon Belt signs a 1 year deal with the Toronto Blue Jays. He was quite a polarizing player in SF, but constant injuries hampered his production quite a bit. Still, can't argue with the two rings he won, and I'd put him squarely in 4th place on the list of SF Giants' first basemen behind McCovey, Clark, and Cepeda. Not too shabby. Also loved his dry wit. Now Brandon Crawford is the only remaining piece from the championship teams.

Godspeed, Captain!

I'll miss him. Hope he knocks the cover off the ball up there and stays healthy.

I've heard that they may try B Craw at 1st base...

Maybe if they'd managed to sign Correa! But there's really no other option for the Giants at short right now. First base will be the committee of Late Night Lamont, JD Davis, Wilmer Flores, et. al.

Literally just online speculation but still I don't disagree... completely ... not my line uo. Just noticed he left out Wade. Did he move on?

Those are a lot of prospects. For what year is that projected lineup? I think only Schmitt has a legitimate chance of cracking the big leagues this season. Luciano needs to learn the OF — I 100% agree he probably won't stick at SS, but his bat will play anywhere.

Wade is still under contract with the Giants this season. I strongly suspect Brandon Crawford retires after this season.
