You can try the EverQuest: Macintosh Edition. More info at eqmac.com.

The client is free, and you get a 15-day free trial to try it out. The graphics aren't bad, and it runs on older hardware.

Try Runes Of Magic. Its a free wow clone. Free to download, free to play. Its actually really really really polished. It runs smooth on old machines and looks identical to wow except it has a far superier character class mechanism. Just like wow its quest driven and has tons of quests.

Whats nice is if you go through the tutorial it gives you 60 health and 60 mana potions so you have 0 downtime your first 10 levels. so your actually playing rather then sitting. they are recieved as packages and you right click to open them.

you should try it even if you need boot camp. within the first 30 seconds you think your playing WoW except not paying any money. you dont even need to give any credit card info. just sign up for a log in and thats it.

You can play guild wars no problem if you get Crossover Games. Fully supported and includes an installer for it. This is what I use.. I am a more casual player when it comes to online RPG's and WoW couldn't cut it for me. Played it for a week and got frustrated w/ it.

If we can get enough support and votes from the mac community, possibly SWTOR (Star Wars: The Old Republic) MMO.

If you go to this thread, vote and give your input we'll be that much more likely to get noticed. Thanks!

Runes of Magic FTW....

#1 It's FREE. I don't know how many ppl I know wasting hundreds of dollars on WoW and other monthly-billed MMORPGs... to me that's asinine.

#2 Dual Classes. At level 10 you can create and level up a secondary class... and switch between the two at any time (at specific places, not in battle) which makes for interesting gameplay. Priest/Mage has very powerful offense and defensive spells, I play a Knight/Scout which is a good long/short range tank.

#3 Auction House. In-game eBay to sell off rare or not so rare items. You make far more money here than simply selling stuff in shops.

#4 Graphics. It's a clear WoW clone but I find the graphics a bit more polished, and considering the cost it's impressive.

This is a bootcamp option but still on the Mac. :)

1) Looks like a pretty good game but is it really free ? Looking at the website, it looks like the game developers sell game items in game for real money. Most MMO's are trying to prevent gold vendors but instead it's a part of this game :). Looking through different people's comments, it looks like you can play the game for free but, if you want to do well, you end up buying stuff for real money. I guess technically you aren't paying a monthly fee but you probably still end up paying to play.

2) WoW also has dual spec and you can switch specs anywhere / anytime except while in battle.

3) How much WoW have you played ? They have always had an auction house.

The game looks pretty good but generally you get what you pay for. I'll refrain from insulting you for your game of choice.

Haven't played much WoW and not in a long time so if it has all same options that was my bad. But free is free... you buy expensive stuff if you want (the purpose of keeping it free was to have some players have option to be leet) but for the average player there's no cost. If you are one to want to be epic leet then sure, you pay... but hardly compares to long run cost of monthly fees... unless you already have a group of friends on WoW then... no reason to leave I suppose.

Ive been playing Guild Wars recently via bootcamp and its been pretty fun. I've never been a fan of the monthly fees of WoW and I'm not into a lot of the repetitive concepts the game has. However once Diablo 3 comes out (on pc and mac) I'll be playing that for a while. :)

If you weren't aware of the auction houses in WoW, you couldn't have played it much at all (they have always been in the game).

Do you have cable or satellite TV and are paying monthly fees instead of receiving free over the air TV ? Did you waste money by buying an overpriced Mac rather then a cheaper PC ? By your reasoning, it would be asinine (your terminology). The point is, you generally get what you pay for. Without really knowing WoW, how can you determine if the game / monthly payment is worth it or not ? As an example, check out the patch notes for the next patch

I don't care for the month subscription charge but I definitely think I'm getting my moneys worth (I read that Runes of Magic will finally get elves this fall :) )

In all fairness to Runes of Magic, it got very good reviews in all the online reviews I found and in the forums. For people who can't or will not pay monthly subscription fees, I think that Runes of Magic or Clan Lords is a great option.
