I'm curious...

If this is true, and AT&T only has specific accounts' MMS locked and it is based on the text plan you have. Then I wonder if anyone with family-talk and unlimited family texts would be able to immediately start using it?

I'll test it in the morning.

The people with unlimited family text plans are the ones who have gotten MMS working by merely using the hacked IPCC file and adding a few carrier settings. The people who don't have it working (unless you call AT&T) are those with iPhone text messaging plans.

What if you have the basic phone package but w/ unlimited texting for the iPhone 3G

It's still the iPhone Unlimited Text Message plan, unfortunately, which means still no MMS. I've gotten AT&T to change it to a the standard unlimited plan (because they're both $20) once, but a few days later it switched back to the iPhone plan.

Hmm...I have a family plan but separate txt msg plans on each phone. I wonder if I switch to the Unltd family txt plan after I activate the 3GS, would I get MMS?

Yes, but you'll still need to update the carrier file, which will likely require a bit of "hacking."

I thought I would add a couple of things.

First, I have the Family Unlimited Txt plan and MMS did not work for me at first.

Second, to get AT&T to take off the MMS opt-out, I told them that I had two phones, one for work and my iphone for while I was at home. I told her that I switched out the sim card from the iphone to the work phone while I was at work and switched it back while I was at home. I continued to tell her that the phone I use at work had the ability to send/recieve mms but it didn't work and I had a friend that did the same thing only his work. I told her that my friend had called AT&T and the CSR told him about the MMS opt-out thingy and he took it off for my friend.

after that long line of bull, she said,"There is no such thing but I will look at your account and see if I find anything..............long pause............okay, sir, I enabled MMS on your account, if you have any problems please call back."

I didn't want to tell the CSR that I was running the 3.0 GM on my iphone not being a dev and all. Not that she would have cared on inkling. Still, thats how I got it done.

I will repeat, she told me that the 3.0 update would include MMS and it would work on my iphone when the 3.0 update came out. I realize that she is a mindless CSR drone (no offense to mindless CSR drones) so take it with a grain of salt.

Just put this into Terminal and you can use the current version of iTunes.

defaults write com.apple.iTunes carrier-testing -bool TRUE

doing this made it so iTunes does not see my iphone at all. How do I fix this? I have already uninstalled iTunes once, and still no fix.

This may be a stupid question.. but here it goes.

I just updated to 3.0, I noticed that in my texting app, I do not have the little camera button next to the text line like I'm seeing in screenshots of people that have MMS working..

I know that ATT isn't allowing MMS yet, so I'm not suprised that the button isn't there..

but how are they going to add that feature without sending out yet another update?

something that an att rep will have to physically do?

No dice!

Just spent 20 minutes on the phone with an AT&T rep and after a long hold, he returned with a canned announcement from AT&T saying they'd let US know when they're good and ready. Looks like they've already alerted the reps about MMS, so, unless you're the ultimate smooth-talker, I think we're out of luck :(
