More news from a clueless writer from macnn:

http://www.macnn.com/articles/09/08/11/mms.for.us.iphones.soon/

AT&T may almost be ready to deploy MMS messaging for the iPhone, one source suggests. A commentator notes that having upgraded to the iPhone 3.0.1 firmware last week, he suddenly began seeing MMS options where they had previously been taken away. Though present during the iPhone 3.0 beta, the options were ultimately removed for Americans due to AT&T's lack of support.

The carrier simultaneously promised summer availability for MMS, avoiding a specific date. AT&T iPhones are still unable to send media through the protocol, but software support could indicate that the company is almost finished laying the groundwork. The options will only show, allegedly, if a phone's AT&T firmware is at v5.0; most iPhone 3.0.1 devices continue to use v4.0. Owners can check firmware versions under the Settings > General > About menu.

No matter how you spin it.... no matter how much of a fanboi you're...
after more than 2 years, we still don't have MMS on this "revolutionary" phone.... and that's just PATHETIC...

Let me say it again... PATHETIC! I have no excuses or reasoning for this anymore....I can't sit here and blindly defend Apple or ATT... not anymore

revolutionary my a$$, there I said it. :D

You can't blame Apple. MMS works really well on the iPhone, just not in the USA.

NO!!! I blame APPLE .... I blame STEVE JOBZ .... He said "oh it's old tech, we use email now " ..... If he wanted, he would have pushed harder, and force ATT... He didn't care about MMS, so we didn't get it...

The only reason we're getting it (or will get it one day) is because of customer demands... JOBZ is still against it...
Just because 'the dude himself' doesn't use it, thinks nobody else does either...

lol? wut?

My iPhone MMSes it up no problem. Guess "jobz" (are you for real?) "pushed" my carrier in just the right way ;)

I just had opportunity to call ATT customer service, about a mundane account question. The young lady I spoke with was ***very*** nice, extremely professional, and quite pleasant to talk to. Handled my problem without hesitation. All in all, a fantastic CSR experience.

After the actual purpose of my call had been completed, I half-joshingly asked if she could remove the MMS block on my iPhone. She hesitated for more than a second -- I got the distinct impression I had just committed an act akin to breaking wind during a prayer meeting. She then said, No, that can't be done right now, but it's Almost Here, and should arrive Next Month sometime. That's fine, I said, thanked her again, and hung up.

Do you realize what this means?

MMS will be here when it gets here, and September is still "late summer". All the hacks, all the mind-numbing speculation, all the rumors, all of it -- sums up to a cup of warm spit. Waste of time.

Matter of fact, this little anecdote is worthless as well. It's all speculation and blather.

MMS will get here when it gets here, and not before. If you feel you cannot live without it, or at least yammering on about it at every opportunity... then please:

I've been waiting for someone to post that pic. Thanks, I'll add it to my collection for future use. :)

I think he just needed to rant. He's all better now. At least he didn't make a new thread for that. :)

Pathetic ... Just pathetic ... did I say PATHETIC ?
I wouldn't bet on "late summer" .... it could easily turn into "late-never"

That's exactly why we didn't get MMS on iphone in 07... See I was one of the first to get an iphone.... and since I have been here all this time dealing with this crap...its getting a bit annoying...

You must be a new switcher, I'll see you in about 2 years there kiddo...

so are you saying that all the world wide carriers opted not to include MMS in their service for the iphone?
Seems odd to me that every carrier would opt not to include MMS in the iphone plan.

I've had it officially working on my iPhone since the first day of the 3.0 upgrade back in June (O2, UK).

MMS is not new in Europe, we've had it for years on nearly all mobile phones and it is part of the normal monthly allowance. :)

"What's that, Apple? We'll be able to charge people the same amount as for a plan with picture and video messaging over our data networks without actually letting them do this? Sure, we'll take it!"

Yes, I believe that EVERY carrier would opt not to include MMS in the iPhone plan.

well, playing around with swirlymms, i called tech support for some help...explained to them that i wanted to use my BJ2 for MMS messaging...however, they were unable to add the BJ to my account without removing the Iphone plan.

So after 15mins or trying to figure out a way, she told me there was a way to send MMS messages via email. She gave me a bunch of emails to use and you know what, it does work. Still wanting SwirlyMMS to work...bought it and cant even use it. Basically, you use a XXX-XXX-XXXX@mms.att.net or @txt.att.net...with X's being the person 10 digit cell phone number. Heres a list she gave me with other carriers emails.

I know this isnt real MMS, but at least its something till we actually get it.

Alltel = xxxxxxxxxx@message.alltel.com

AT&T (Formerly Cingular) = xxxxxxxxxx@mms.att.net (Use this if the person was on Cingular, if they are new ATT customer use @txt.att.net)

Boost Mobile = xxxxxxxxxx@myboostmobile.com

Sprint = xxxxxxxxxx@messaging.sprintpcs.com

T-Mobile = xxxxxxxxxx@tmomail.net

US Cellular = xxxxxxxxxx@mms.uscc.net

Verizon Wireless = xxxxxxxxxx@vzwpix.com

Virgin Mobile = xxxxxxxxxx@vmobl.com

She did mention that MMS for the iPhone will not be available till late September or early November...dunno how true it is or not, so take it with a grain of salt.

Hey dd you get that picture? Really, damn it was funny. Wonder why you didn't get it? Oh you're not longer with Sprint?

Yeah I want to add another 120 email address.
And beleive it or not some people get charged for such a message.

Sorry (add name) I didn't realize you get charged 50 cents for every email.

Oh you didn't get it, are you a new ATT customer or an Old Cingular customer? Is that number an old cingular number? Are you sure?
I know my friends carry this information around with them all the time.

My wife laughs at the iphone commercials, Hey MMS is there an app for that!!!!! Oh look hon I got a picture message, do you have the app for that?

FWIW, I have the 3.1 beta on my old 3G and although it had the little camera next to the text input field of the SMS app, I tried it several times and it wouldn't send. Until today. I haven't even turned the 3G on in several days and today I did to test an app and figured I'd try an MMS message just to give AT&T heartburn so I took a pic and sent it to my 3GS. Lo and behold, it sent without the red "!" next to the picture. Several seconds later the viewmymessage text appeared on the 3GS.

Go figure.

So now perhaps it is in place and just awaiting the 3.1 release.

+100000 This is exactly what I think every damn time someone throws up that stupid listing of cell addresses and how we can JUST email them. Jeeeez! And I really can wait for MMS, but don't tell me we can just do this. We should be able to do what everyone in the friggin' planet can do (and we have the God phone). It's ridiculous.

Oh, and you deserve a POTD.

works on mine as well.. 32gb 3gs. no modded file, got a new iphone 2 weeks ago. right out of box it worked
