all those buttons and things are already in the OS, they're just not activated. This update will do that. We will probably not see an apple update.

just a quick question, i havent been a iphone for enough time...however..
when we upgrade our carrier to whatever, will that wipe the phone clean? meaning is it going to be like a firmware upgrade?

It is widely believed its going to be a Carrier update, but also a Software update is very likely (kill of the fews bugs that remain)

Also, a firmware update doesn't have to 'wipe the phone clean'. Updating it works just fine 99% of the time.
