For all of those out there that were "annoyed" by the jump to my webpage changed their browser size, I'm sorry. In order for the site to be viewed properly, a minimum size of the browser is needed, and since potential employers are really the ones viewing this, I need to make sure that no pictures or information are being cut off, because many execs don't recognize computer problems and how to fix them, and I'm not about to eliminate that line of code just to post on macrumors.com. Yes its a little annoying, but that brief annoyance is worth making sure the site functions.

Ok, now for the people that finally got around to answering my question instead of whining, THANK YOU. Someone wondered if you could replace your domain name instead of the web.me.com/beatledud, even if you can't, you can still have your domain name point to the web.me.com domain and it will just mask it. But I'm not familiar with the logistics of iWeb on .mac and now MobileMe. I should be able to just copy my website onto MobileMe's host server and it will all work just fine right? I mean, I'm not limited to uploading it via iWeb software only right?

I am on your side with this. Don't let these poopheads annoy you.

ZOMGZ! MY BROSWER GOT RESIZED! RATHER THAN FIX IT I WILL WASTE THAT TIME WHINING ON A MESSAGE BOARD!

If you don't own a mac, the only thing that you're really getting is push contacts and calendar through native apps on the phone .
All I'm saying is that there appears to be a market of people looking for exactly that service (having email + PIM pushed to their phone).

Some are paying $168/year for a hosted Exchange account.

So here comes MobileMe, which for $68/year less, does pretty much all of that, has about 20x the storage space, and throws in Gallery and iDisk (of which, you only need a computer for the iDisk ... Gallery works fine from just the phone).

If you're looking at MobileMe from the context of "it's just an upgraded version of that old .Mac service that nobody liked", then I see your point of view.

If you look at it like the Apple equiv. of an hosted Exchange account, I think it's a totally different ballgame.

I don't really understand what it is that you can do with Mac and Mobile Me that you can't do with a PC and Mobile Me. FWIW - I plan to get a Mac eventually - I'm just waiting for my Compaq laptop to die to justify the purchase. But from reading the Mobile Me website, it would appear to me that there is plenty of functionality for PC users. For the fellow who is trying to dissuade PC users from getting Mobile Me - what is it that the Mac brings to the table that you can't do with a PC?

As far as I know, that's not right, you have to use iWeb, which probably won't give you the same flexibility you have now -- probably couldn't do the map you have, etc. (site worked fine on Safari for me...)
You can use any domain name you own, but have to use iWeb. (and if you look at info Apple has on MobileMe, the web hosting isn't in the general section, and isn't in the section for MobileMe on a PC, so looks like it's staying this way for now) The web hosting is one of the "extras" for Mac owners, but is only useful for basic sites.

It's sorta something that you need to have a mac to understand. .mac/mobileme integrates with almost every native application. For most .mac users, the value comes from the integration with Mac OS. Sure I could get the same services for less money elsewhere, but they wouldn't fit in with the default apps.

I'm not trying to dissuade you from buying it, I'm just telling you that you're paying a lot for a service that you don't get to see the best side of. If you're gonna get a mac eventually, then go for it.

The backup, syncing, web publishing, and back to my mac are all examples (there are even more) of things that you won't be able to do without a mac. Everything else will work in some way on windows, but it probably won't be as good of an experience.

Well we'll see. One good thing - it sounds like there is a 60 day free trial, so if it doesn't meet my needs I'll just cancel it.

There is more integration with Mac applications, and a few features are Mac-specific. There's definitely added value for Mac users, but doesn't mean that it isn't worth $99 for many PC users, especially ones that find the push contacts/calendars useful. They have a 60 day trial that limits storage amount but I think it gives you everything else. I'd recommend that for anyone new --PC or Mac, to test it out.

how much storage do they give you, exactly?

I have a website that I pay a hosting company 10 bucks a month. Now can I load said site onto my MobileMe account and have my domain name link to the MobileMe host? If so, the $100/year beats the $120/year plus with all the other push items that will work with my iPhone.

didn't resize for me. Anyway .mac space was never renowned for being that fast, if your space is for business I think I would keep them separate for sure

The overall usefulness for me depends on any changes that 2.0 brings to the mail client.

For example, not when I add a contact into the phone, I don't have the options to add it to a group. I have to sync it to the PC, specify which folder to put it in, move it to the appropriate folder, then re sync, I hope the phone and mobileme allow more than this functionality - otherwise it's just a glorifed docking station.

You do not have to use iWeb. I set up a little personal website, just to test things, using Dreamweaver. It works perfectly.

used a fixed width site centered optomised for 1024x768 that is the standard resolution for web development without intrusive browser resizing

Code:
#wrapper {
width: 960px;
margin: auto;
}

something like that then wrap your site in that and lose that horible resize thing
