What was the criteria? All the new Android handsets have the same specs...

You sure about that?
At Mobile World Congress we saw new handsets running Tegra 2, Tegra 3, KV32, Snapdragon, Intel Atom (Medfield) TI OMAP & Samsung Exynos from the top of my head.

There are huge differences in Android hardware today and there will be in future.

You can't see the chip. You can't tell from one processor to the next. It reminds of the days when Windows fanboys would brag about a .02 difference in cpu speed over a Mac. You can actually tell the difference between a dual core running at 1.5 ghz vs a dual core running at 1.4 ghz?

If you take the manufacturer's label off the phone, you'd be hard pressed to distinguish one for another.

Even with the labels on its nearly impossible to tell the difference between the 4 an 4s.

If you use the phone the obvious difference is Siri assuming you know iPhones.

The software differences between manufacture ui on android phones (between Samsung, Motorola, Htc, etc) are blatantly obvious. Much more so then Siri.

I consider the upgrades you can't see in my 4s much more significant then the things you can see (Siri). If someone asked you if you wanted a dual core processor, dual-band world phone 8 megapixel camera, faster data or Siri would you actually want Siri?

Mobile World Congress? lol....

Not even going to ask what the hell that is. All I can say is everyones needs are different. there is no better device.

I couldn't care less how iPhone or SGII or HannahMontana Phone is rated
I pick a product that meets my needs best and let everyone else do the same

I don't feel the need to toot the horn of any product
My personal self worth or self esteem is not defined by how others view products I use

Blogs, awards, news sites, etc all rate and pontificate for their own self interest

If you like a product, buy it
If you don't, then buy something else
Pretty simple

I don't feel the need for my choice to be rated "best" at anything
I just want it to work best for me

You must have me confused with a fanboy
I just use products and leave everyone else to make their own choices

You are my hero, MacDawg. (Well, today anyway ;) :D )

You said everything I want to say all the time, but better than I could ever say it.:D

I had an SGS2 for 3 months and it is indeed a fine phone. However, overall I prefer the 4s and I think a lot of that is down to iOS vs Android rather than the hardware itself (although I do prefer the smaller size of the iPhone and find it slightly faster than the SGS2)

For me the best phone is an iPhone because I am tightly integrated with the Apple ecosystem - I have a lot of iTunes purchased media and love iTunes Match (Google and Amazon alternatives aren't available in the UK); I use Photostream a lot; I have several Apple TVs I like to control from my handset; I make heavy use of iMessage; I use Safari as my desktop browser and like to sync bookmarks to my mobile, etc, etc

Before I got the SGS2, I had an iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4. I fancied a change which is why I got the SGS2 and did enjoy it but it never really felt "right" to me. My wife got me a 4s for Christmas and I'm very pleased I switched back. I have nothing against Android and for some people the SGS2 may well be "the best mobile", but for me that accolade goes to the iPhone 4s

Sorry I don't buy all this "There is no best phone" or "It's the best phone for me" garbage. You know what? Yes there is a best phone. Not just FOR YOU because of some ridiculous ecosystem argument, but a BEST PHONE period! And that phone is called the Galaxy S2.
What you should be saying is I bought an iphone because I'm suckered into the ecosystem and use it as an excuse to stay with Apple. But I wholeheartedly admit the Galaxy S2 is a better phone. That's what you should say. End of story.
Just to make this as clear as possible. When these awards are given out, they look at full out performance. They don't look at how many apps someone invested in. They're not going at this from a fanboy's perspective.

I don't care.

I don't even know who wrote it. I didn't even read it.

Edit: oh, mobile world congress? So.

Pretty sure your post would be completely different had the title stated 'Mobile World Congress Names iPhone 4S Best Smartphone'.

iOS is boring

icon after icon after icon

no customisation

and the new 4S isn't as quick as the SGS2 which is running old software. Don't even want to think of the speed differences when it gets ICS next week

Well as someone who owns both, I can attest that this is untrue. SGS2 does a few things faster, but mostly its about the same or slower.

Camera speed - 4S wins hands down in speed to open, speed between shots, and speed to record the shots
Messaging - 4S again opens the SMS app much faster than my SGS2 did. This was the stock app too not the fancier ones that take even longer.
Mail - Gmail is faster on the SGS2 than the 4S
Safari - Opens faster than Android browser. Websites are subjective depending on the site.
Music - 4S and this isn't even close and one of the biggest reasons I switched.

I would have to agree it is the best. Not everyone in the world can get an iPhone or has a carrier to support it. Loved my GS2 and no doubt it was picked the best!

Mobile World Congress? lol....

Not even going to ask what the hell that is.

It's the world's largest mobile technology showcase. Happens every year at this time in Barcelona.

Pretty much every carrier, device maker, telecom manufacturer, or related vendor shows up with an exhibit and/or their CEOs give speeches.

Every tech blog covers it. Can't miss it. It's A Really Big Deal :)

I'm glad I'm not like a lot of you. The ecosystem is the biggest bullcrap i ever seen thowrn around here. I'm glad i took the plunge and bought android tablet a few days ago knowing the ipad 3 is coming. I get to mess arounf on IOS and Andrid now. An ICS tablet is awesome and i think that where Androd really shines. I see no point in getting a ipad since i have a iphone. I see no point in wasting money on an oversized iphone i already have and staring at the same icos that are on my iphone. I now love being part of both worlds.

Oh, that.
I still think the name is funny though.

I don't know if I agree with this announcement. I must have a lemon then......I'm going back to an iPhone when the 5 comes out.
