This stinks. Apple needs to keep their products priced at a premium level to help distinguish us the userbase as the most special and elite in society. At this rate I'm going to have to start using Sony products. Sony's most gorgeous high-end laptops already cost more than MacBooks. WTF happened to Apple being for the elite?

It's CRAZY right? How dare we start living like...ugh...PEASANTS!...LOL...Now all haters will have one less thing to bash us about...

They just charged me for the renew 99$. If they don't refund me, I sue them ...

Sure you will....Good luck with that...:D

So I am curious, I just got an Airport Extreme and I am working on getting internet access to my attached hard drive. I don't want to pay $99 to do this through MobileMe (and I think I have found a solution too).

It seems like there is a good chance that Apple is going to setup something simple like Subsonic, where all your files are stored on you home machine and you access them over the net through Apple's possible free MobileMe service.

If so, I should wait if I end up deciding to buy into the $99 MobileMe service then, right?

I could try it for 2 months, which would be in the realm of the next Apple event, so I could use it for free and if they don't change the price or make it free, I can just cancel the account.

Hmm.

Decisions Decisions :D I'm actually in the same boat. ARRGH!!

I doubt Apple would let people upload music that they purchased at Best Buy or Walmart to their servers for free. I think it will just be access to music you purchased on iTunes. They already have it on their servers and let you stream 1:30 of it already. If you purchase music on iTunes, then you can stream anywhere on any iDevice. I think that would be plausible.

I am among the people who just renewed mobileme recently. I would imagine Apple will offer a free version of mobileme, and then a premium version. All the current subscribers would get carried into the premium. The premium would probably include extra storage space, the web-hosting, and other features. While the free version is just email, ical, location software.

My 2 cents.

Dude you're crazy. How is Apple gonna know you purchased something from Walmart or Target or anywhere else for that matter?

That wasn't his point. The key was, "I think it will just be access to music you purchased on iTunes." The requisite being identifiable music purchased via iTunes ~ not determining the original source of other files.

That's a reasonable assumption should Apple allow live streaming from their servers - the iTunes files being, of course, already there.

Did you read the article Slick? This revamp will more than likely be FREE

Did you read the name of this website, Slick. This is a rumor, and the previous poster didn't believe it. Do you take everything posted here as fact? Not very smart there, Slick.

People still use that piece of crap?

iWeb fills a need for people. So why is it crap? We can't all be web development experts and we can't all afford Dreamweaver. Or do you think my grandma should learn HTML, CSS, and Javascript?

A free service would be nice. With that 50+ billion in cash reserve they can afford it. It could possibly allow them to steal a small percentage of gmail accounts.

They didn't make $50+ billion by giving stuff away.

Nor did I imagine Jobs and his disciples would display fear of competition the way they fear Android. I often wonder where fanboys directed their fear, insecurities and anger before they had Android to bash.

Are you aware of the concept of irony?

I think you are overstating the case a little. Why should Apple fear Android? You have your Galaxy and Xoom. Apple has the iPhone4(soon 5), and the iPad2.
What is there to 'fear' exactly?
War, Radiation, Tsunami's, earthquakes, those are things to get worried about?
Personally I look on Android users as the same as a dog chasing its tail; mildly amusing but kind of depressing.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8F190 Safari/6533.18.5)

If they paid me to use iDisk (in it's current form) I would still choose Dropbox.

Dropbox works brilliantly, and I think is essential for using more than 1 device.

iDisk in comparison is slow and unreliable at best, and has lost my data at worst

I agree. Dropbox is amazing, and until Apple works out the issues with iDisk I am not switching back to it.

I am expecting this but I have 2 iTunes accounts (my MobileMe account and my regular account I've used for ~5 years) and I'm hoping as long as it's iTunes purchased content, it'll be accessible instead of the weird snafu that might erupt where my MobileMe account won't see my gmail purchased iTunes content because it's a different iTunes account.

MobileMe on amazon

me too, seen that my MobileMe subscription is going to renew this sunday...:(

I hope this "revamped" service is not based on advertising 'cause I really hate those banners/sponsored links at the bottom of messages. And I hope also they are going to boost iDisk speed, as of now it takes ages to upload/download a file through the Finder...

Buy it on Amazon and save money. I bought the "old version" for under $50 a few months ago, but it's gone up. The new version is under $74, with free shipping.

According to the article, though, you'll get a year of something if you pay for it.

It's this type of blind faith, with not one fact of what the service will be like, that is so unique and scary.

No wonder Apple is ultra successful, they don't even have to do anything and the customers opening their wallet at the mere suggestion of a new product.

Simply mind boggling.

Don't any of these fanboys think for themselves ?

LOL, people whom have been Apple customers a long time and know that Apple usually delivers quality products they enjoy are excited about a new "free" product your mind is boggled?

Simply mind boggling.

+1 . Well worded sir.

Your argument would have even the slightest bit of merit if the sales of Apple on numerous products were not sky-rocketing

The "Apple fanboys buy whatever" argument lasted when Apple sales lagged significantly far behind others but considering the sales are record-breaking with several products brought on in the last few years, being excited about a new product is not mind-boggling...just someone waiting for another great product

I mean, posts like this always pop up and when the massive sales of Apple are brought up, no answer is given. If SO MANY fanboys exist for Apple, maybe that is b/c so MANY love what they are making.

Think other companies don't wish they had fanboys as loyal as Apples?

I want MobileMe to have a Diary Function like EverNote. I want to keep Training Diaries and such in one place. Would be awesome. :)

Hi,
Is there any news regarding this?
My trial period expires in 3 weeks and I would like to know if I should pay to continue or wait until next version is available.

Was suppose to be April, but it's looking unlikely. My sub runs out in June and I bet I'll have to renew it too...

my trial ended a few weeks back - so i moved over to google - not my first choice as i quite liked MM, but dropbox is amazing!

i didn't want to part with hard earned £££ (£59) and then discover it was made free shortly later
if MM is not essential in u're life - i think a wait and see approach, substituting with google for the interim period is a sensible alternative

I've been using MobileME since it first came out. I just started using dropbox about a week ago. I have to honestly say I like dropbox better. that said I'll continue to use both.

iDisk for private, Dropbox for non personal.
