Any chance to see iMac updates in this 'Media Event for MobileMe'? Last update was 235 days ago and the Average update time is 226 [MR Buyer's Guide].

crossing fingers :):):)

Good point. I bet we will. I think they'll update ME, iMac, Macbook and the last iPod classic though the latter is very unlikely.

You know, now that I found Dropbox, I never use my iDisk. It feels to me like Dropbox is the Apple designed app and iDisk is the 3rd party.

i think it's already been well established that because of the quality of broadband connections in the us, the amount of time it would take to upload say 20gb of music to a server would put this beyond the realm of possibility for most american consumers.

Actual uploading won't happen. Tag matching (or verification of music purchases from itunes) is much more likely. Same with movies.

+1

HAHAHAHAHAHA! Us Canadians are all laughing at you XD its legal here to torrent 60 GB of music free and i have something like 150GB of movies all in 720p (because 1080 takes too much space). its only bad for you. Americans constantly think they're the center of the universe when there are dozens of other countries using the same products. Wake up. If the FBI wants to go through my library and listen to some Metallica or watch iron man 2 then be my guest i couldn't care less. I'm not in their country. Your constitution doesn't apply here.

This is possibly the stupidest post I have read in a long time.

I suggest you check out the Canada's Copyright Act.

A little late to the party here but I believe Apple has already tipped its hand to MobileMe cloud using your home library. Take a look at he export options for the new iMovie on the iPad - see anything missing? (Hint, its been replaced with the words iTunes...)

A free service would be nice. With that 50+ billion in cash reserve they can afford it. It could possibly allow them to steal a small percentage of gmail accounts.

Is this a good time to jump on the 60 day free trial of MobileMe? Or should i just hold out of this MobileMe altogether and wait for the revamped?

I could be wrong but as greedy as Apple has been lately I would not expect this service to be free from them. Don't get your hopes up

If it's free and at least 2 GB (same as DropBox) it's already better (at least for me), because i won't need to install 3rd party app. Better integration and speed was ok for me.
Having a 3rd Party app doesn't mean worse integration and speed. If you try out Dropbox on the Mac, you'll notice that its syncing is BETTER integrated than iDisk (you'll never see a "refreshing" spinning circle in your Dropbox folder, like you do your iDisk), and its speed is faster than iDisk (Dropbox does data deduplication, cross-LAN sync for multiple Dropbox endpoints within the same wifi).

Arguably it's better on iOS too. The iDisk app on iOS is not very useful or good in comparison (no save locally option, for example).

I have. It's legal to download and illegal to resell or upload and if you set your upload speed in Vuze or Bittorrent to 1kb/s it's undetectable. its common knowledge actually. And i have checked, limiting your upload speed does not affect your download speed at all. for example, i can upload at 50kb/s and then limit it to 1kb and the download speed remains unchanged. And this whole thing is all a giant scare tactic. if the cops come knocking you can just store it all on an external somewhere and erase it everywhere else. as for the online archiving like iDisk even though i prefer Dropbox, you can delete it from there. if they hold onto a copy, then you can just say that it wasn't you because who honestly uses their true credentials online? i know i don't.

It's this type of blind faith, with not one fact of what the service will be like, that is so unique and scary.

No wonder Apple is ultra successful, they don't even have to do anything and the customers opening their wallet at the mere suggestion of a new product.

Simply mind boggling.

Don't any of these fanboys think for themselves ?

Since it is most likely going to be free your post is completely foolish.

Why are you trolling this forums just looking to show everyone how ignorant you are.. Isn't there something out there you actually know something about that you could spend your time on forums for that?

My mobile me was set to auto renew in 6 days. I just unchecked that. I'll wait to see what the new Mobile me is going to have and cost. If I pay them $99 now they would probably want to give me a $90 iTunes credit or some silly thing like that instead of refunding my money should MM become free. I can live without MM for a month or two until things shake out.

Beware that what is stored in the cloud is not protected by the usual Constitutional protections against government search, seizure, privacy, etc. Be prepared for warrant-less invasion of your privacy. Don't store anything on there you want private. No credit card info, no legal documents, nada.

Not to mention the risk of EMP taking the cloud down at any moment. I wonder how far the new server farm is from a nuke reactor? They do have earthquakes in that neck of the woods.

Agreed. I can see this now.. "In 2012 a massive earthquake turned off the data centers of Apple.. everybody lost everything, the Mayans were right, details at 5"

I only used Drop Box to sync files between my devices. iDisk on the other hand allows me publicly share files to non-drop box users on any platform.

DropBox lets you do the same thing via Public folder. And it's got way better cross-platform support, unlike iDisk which only natively runs on Apple devices.

False. idisk uses webdavs (https). Any windows and Linux with WebDAV can connect to iDisk.

Are you not a fan of something? Cars, teams, etc? We're not talking about going to war, it's just mobile me. Get off your high horse. Do you troll the Tag Huer forums and scream, "CASIO DOES THE SAME THING FOR TEN BUCKS!!!!"?

Yes, iDisk has always sucked. The service is through Akmai. Hopefully after Apple migrates everything to the new farm in NC, things will get better.

Is it going to be free for new devices only or for all devices?

If it's free for all devices does that mean "Find my iPhone" will be free for older devices too?

all i want for this mobileme thing is to be free thats it..i ont wanna pay $100.00 for something that google offer for free...i dont wanna depend on google for anything..just apple..

Mobile Me offers FAR more than what 'google offer for free'.

You get 15-20gb server storage space, you get public gallery spaces for sharing your photos, you get the ability to mount your storage on your computer and access it like any other external disc, you get the ability to backup first party and third party services to your iDisk. You get to allocate 5gb server space accounts to family members enabling them to store, create webspace/websites in their own domain account without it affecting your main.

You get email alias's alongside your .me or .mac email account.

You get to dynamically allocate / assign space to your email storage or data storage.

You get a public iDisk facility to share data (I use mine to upload files to the printers for work) and allow others to access and download files as you wish. You can even dynamically assign password for those files.

Where does google offer that other that a gmail email address?

I do not mind paying for mobile me. I use it a lot. I will be pissed off if they gimp users with this 'freemium' model just to appease those that do not currently use the service.
