Don't get it

Why use MobileMe? The only good thing about them is their good sense of design. (CSS3-powered!!!)

But seriously, just use Dropbox or Google

Why are there people who pay for Mobile Me? I can not understand this because Google and Dropbox offers a much better service for free...

Because Gmail doesn't, as demonstrated by the screenshot of the sync failure above.

One username and password does:

1. System Preferences sync
2. Email preferences sync
3. Bookmarks sync
4. Calendar sync
5. Contacts sync
6. Keychain sync
7. Notes sync

Once Apple sorts the iDisk performance out so it works like dropbox I'll use that for 1Password, etc.

Mate uses Gmail and it's a faff.

Just because it's free doesn't make it better.

i can't believe people pay for this.

Why not? I've never had an issue with it, and it is a great service. Sure there's Time Machine, but if someone burgled you and took your Time Machine Disk too, well you're scuppered. I can have my most important stuff synced without a hitch, and retrieve quickly, this includes all my settings and files.

I'm happy to pay just for that alone. Piece of mind costs money.

Value of MobileMe

I switched over to use Google and BusySync for syncing and ran with it for about 9 months. Then I returned to MobileMe. If you've drank the Apple kool-aid as I have (15" MBP, 27" iMac, iPhone 4, iPad 2, Mac Mini Server), then there is simply no parallel with MobileMe for synchronizing Calendars, Contacts, Mail, Mail Rules, and Smart Mailboxes, Keychains and Notes. I have zero problems with wondering whether or not any change is synced across all of my platforms, as I NEVER have a problem with losing anything.

I grant you guys that MobileMe mail is a joke, along with iDisk and most of those other so-called "web apps" that makeup MobileMe. But I seriously enjoy having all of my data seamlessly updated across all of my platforms and I will gladly pay the yearly subscription for that.

+1

It's nice knowing the minute I leave the Apple Store with a new iphone or computer, I can login into the MobileMe and have all my calendars, email, contacts, mail, bookmarks all synced and ready to go within just a few minutes. I don't have to rely on going home, syncing with my old computer or re syncing my iphone to get the essentials. Yes, I would prefer apps sync wirelessly too but for what MobileMe is, its priceless for me.

+1, I hardly ever log into the web part; maybe once a while to change group settings which is easier;
Rest on iDevices and macs

Gmail performance has really gone down every year since I've been using it(since 2007). I'd gladly pay $20/year for faster service.

There are so many Google haters on this forum, one immediately knows it's biased and inflexible.

So much so, that it makes me smile and chuckle.

I use, and have been using both MobileMe and Google Services, such as Gmail, Google Docs, Google Tasks, et all for years.

I happen to find them both very good.

Perfect? No. Useful? Yes.

I find Gmail vastly more usable and generally superior to MobileMe - not because of the web interface (Gmail's is vastly faster and better, but I could look past that), but because of Exchange.

I'm sorry Apple, but your attempt at "Exchange for the rest of us" blows.

+1 I just purchased an iPhone here in Japan while here on assignment for a while, it was great to add MM to it in the store and by the time I walked out, my mail was there, my bookmarks were there, my cal was updated, etc.

Gmail has its place, and I use it, but MM is great for synching devices and keeping them synched. My son deleted his address book by mistake, no problem, synch and boom it was back. My wife wanted to know some names and addresses of restaurants we went to, no problem, I added them here from Japan and boom she could see them on her iPad. My wife entered my kids concerts and games from home in the USA, boom I see them in Japan time here. Awesome. Yes, there are many other tools that can do this, but none that I know of in one package.

iDisk, yeah uploads are slow as crap, but if you use it for its intended original purpose which is back up it is fine. I just let the Apple Back Up utility do its thing and don't worry about how long it takes. I have uploaded about 5 gigs of other data, like documents and other files, it didn't really take that long and downloads are decent enough for me.

The picuture uploads are very fast and it is nice those gigs do not count against your 20 gig allowance.

Overall it isn't perfect, but it isn't bad either; and I am sure it will only get better.

Frankly speaking I do not trust Google with any of my data, anything important ot sensive I send to a different email address and company. I wouldn't trust Google with any important or sensative documents stored there period.
