Here's the screenshot.

Something's not right with the DNS then. If it's parked at GoDaddy, then that is where DNS is sending you. This is a problem with your GoDaddy config, not Apple/MobileMe.

Do you have the CNAME set to web.me.com?

This is the screenshot of how things looked for Total DNS after I changed the www CNAME to web.me.com.\

Would I have to do anything with the nameservers?:apple:

works for me

I bought a domain from godaddy this morning.

I followed the directions from the following link and everything is up and running already (it was almost immediate). http://help.godaddy.com/article/4100

when i click 'publish' in iweb, it finishes and says something like 'your site has been posted to mobile.me.com/mydomain' but if i just type in www.mydomainname.com, then it comes up with no mention of mobile me.

cheers.

edit: in your picture above, where you have mobileme.com (next to cname), that should be thenameofyoursite.com NOT mobileme.

Thanks for your help, I am going to follow those directions on the http://help.godaddy.com/article/4100 to the T (just changing web.mac.com to web.me.com) and see what happens. Will post back here when everything is finished being set up, hopefully within 24 hrs.:apple:

UPDATE - Just finished the settings, and it was almost instant. Works great. If you go to mactimize.com, my page comes up as it is supposed to, although it shows the url strangely. (Comes up as http://mactimize.com/mactimize.com/Mactimize.com.html.) I wonder though if that is just a problem that I need to solve with iWeb or MobileMe instead of godaddy.

However, if I go to www.mactimize.com it does not come up, it shows it as a page parked on godaddy, just like it did before. Any help would be appreciated.:apple:

Thanks, martinmartin. Worked like a charm.

No problem.

Both of your URLs seem to be working now. I have noticed the same thing, when I type my website in, I am redirected to a site that doesn't contain 'mobileme' but does list the site name twice. My .mac name happens to be the same as my website address, so maybe that's what's going on.

Is your .mac name also mactimize?

Cheers

The first of the problems can be fixed in iWeb. The other (if I go to www.mactimize.com it does not come up, it shows it as a page parked on godaddy, just like it did before.) needs to be fixed in GoDaddy. You need to point all of your URL options to mobileme. I had the same problem and a tech support guy at Register.com guide me through it.

I am trying to do this also. How do I get the ip address from the dot me site to give to the place I have my domain registered? I think that is what I need to do anyway.

Am I correct in this?

Apparently I just had to wait a little longer than 5 minutes for godaddy to update the info for the site, as I now notice (as you pointed out) that both of my URL's are working properly.

2nd point - My MobileMe (.mac whatever :)) name is dilbert4life, not mactimize. I think that it is an issue to be resolved in iWeb instead of through godaddy. Will check into it.:apple:

It wasn't that complicated for me. I just logged in to mobileme, and then went to account, and clicked personal domain. Then followed the on-screen instructions. I had a little trouble at this point (see previous posts) but then went to this site http://help.godaddy.com/article/4100 and that answered most of my other questions. Hope that helps.:apple:

just so you know the email thing does not work.

you will have to make a subdomain in-order to use your domain for email

could you use mobileme to host a blog using wordpress?

No you need MySql and PHP support two things you don't get with mobile me.

Hi,

I followed the above instructions too and am getting the same problem, just opposite i.e.

http://www.<mydomain>.com -> My MobileMe website (OK)
http://<mydomain>.com -> GoDaddy holder page (NOT OK)

I have added my domain to the MobileMe Personal domain (as instructed) and also changed my GoDaddy DNS settings to:

CNAME www web.me.com

Do I need to add any other settings in GoDaddy? Or should I wait some more time to allow the update to go through?

Thanks for any advice you can give :)

Add a new CNAME record. The host should be <mydomain>.com and the points to should be web.me.com. Following your format above, it should look like this:

CNAME <mydomain>.com web.me.com

Do that and then wait a little bit, mine took maybe a half hour, and that should do it.

Thanks for the info. That seems to work fine, but for some reason it stops my email working! I use my domain for emails too, but no longer receive any when adding the <mydomain>.com CNAME. Email works fine with the www CNAME set to web.me.com

Any ideas or suggestions?

Cheers

Did you add a new CNAME, or change the www CNAME to <mydomain>.com?

It should look like this:

CNAME www web.me.com
CNAME <mydomain>.com web.me.com

You should have both of these, that's all I can think of. As far as email is concerned, I don't use myemail@<mydomain>.com, so I can't give 100% reliable help, only what I think may be the problem.

Cheers.:apple:

I added both CNAME's i.e. www and <mydomain>.com and both had the value web.me.com

I've removed the <mydomain>.com CNAME and the email is working fine again, so I guess there must be an issue somewhere. It's no big deal really, since the www CNAME is working as expected. Just means people have to enter the URL correctly lol

Cheers

so is there anyway to do email?
name@mysite.com?
I know iWeb and MobileMe don't offer, but is there a way to with out paying for hosting service with a co. like BlueHost?

Where do you expect the mail to sit if there's no hosting? Unless you want to run a mail server on your home machine, but I don't recommend it. If you have a domain name, you can use Gmail as the host, that's what I do. My host allowed me to get it for free as well so I only pay for my web hosting (through DreamHost).

Thats what I was thinking.
I just feel like I'm paying way too much for hosting.
All my videos are thru Vimeo+, so the actual site is pretty lite in size.
And I already have MobileMe.

So theres a way to use Gmail but still have a name@mysite.com and not @gmail.com? Any other benefits im missing from paying for a host?

I haven't used GoDaddy so I would recommend asking them about it directly. Sounds doable though.

i kind of looked into it.
they offer email plans.
but the best one is only $35/yr.

so the only thing that webhosts offer over MobileMe+GoDaddy is unlimited space and wordpress installs (after a while a wordpress can take up a lot of space). I can always move my wordpress' to tumblr or wordpress.com.

with my videos being hosted thru vimeo, my site is very light.
