with the iPhone you can set as many email accounts as you want. Then you have the option to use the one you want.

I don't have it, but I plan on getting it once I receive my iPhone. It's a must-have if you have an iPhone and one or more Macs (or PCs). MobileMe will keep your contacts, calendars, and emails in sync at all times.

If you add a contact on your iPhone, it will automatically be added to all your other computers and on MobileMe's website.

I have 3 Macs and an iPhone and I can sync my contacts, email, and bookmarks across all 4 easily and instantly. That alone is worth it for me. There is nothing like getting a new iPhone or Mac at the store or delivered and being able to sign in on the spot and have your contacts and info appear instantly.

Add me to this list. I think it's well worth it for the reasons stated above.
When I purchased my first iPhone all my contacts, email, calendar event were on the phone within a minute of turning it on the first time.
It's really worth it to me for that reason. All four of my Macs contain the same information all the time.

not sure about that....

You can set it up for Send Only. In my case I have MobileMe and 3 Send Only Accounts.

The problem most have with this subject is the MobileMe Web Site does not allow you to do this. You can only send from MobileMe. In my case I never use the MobileMe Web Site. I have my MM Account added to my Outlook Client (it is IMAP) and with Outlook I have more control. Again, you do not have this problem with the iPhone.

So, by setting it up on me.com, it will work with the iPhone too?

Would I have to set it up to receive and send mail? Or could I just set it up to send?

Here's what you have to do: you set up MobileMe on your iPhone. Then you go to Account Info, Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) and add your other account's outgoing mail server. Now you just have to turn off MobileMe's SMTP and turn on your other one.

Now, whenever you send an email it will send from the adress you want.

Thank you. Thats exaxtly what I was looking for.

Once Snow Leopard arrives, doesn't the advantage of Mobileme's sync feature disappear for those with exchange server?

Although I like the push syncing for calendars and addresses, I probably wouldn't pay for it for that.

I mainly use it to transfer files between machines in different locations or to share files with others. Posting photo albums there also is straightforward from iPhoto, which makes it simple to let people know how to see pictures I want to share without my losing control of the files.

Finally, I use it for off site storage of a few things.

I'm glad I have it. I put it my Christmas list for someone who doesn't know what else to get for me.

I know everyone has their own needs, but this was my experience with MobileMe.

When I first got my 3G and heard about MobileMe, I was very excited.

The email, contacts and calendar all on sync over the air sounded great.

I was so stoked about it that I dumped GMail in favor of MobileMe.

Biggest mistake of my cyber life.

I refuse to use Outlook for anything, so my requirement for email is that the web site for email access be good.

MobileMe has been buggy from day one for me and continues to this very day, as I still check it once a week for any straggler emails I forgot to change back to Google. For whatever reason, I can be typing in a long email, and MobileMe will just re-load for no reason like someone hit my refresh button or F5. VERY annoying. And the calendar and contacts parts will do the same thing.

Now that Google has the sync of calendar and contacts for free, I don't see any real benefit to paying Apple for MobileMe.

I love MobileMe (.Mac). I've had it since it was the free iTools...

I've got two Macs (desktop and laptop) plus the iPhone, and the cloud-based syncing of contacts/calendar and push mail is great. Any contacts changes or calendar (iCal) changes get disseminated to all 3 devices within seconds. Email stays nicely in sync. Couldn't be happier.

On top of that, I actually use many of the other features, too. I'm a big iDisk user (I have 40GB of space) and I use MobileMe galleries for hosting pics of the kids for family out of town, etc. Plus, my older daughter likes making web pages for her and her friends with iWeb.

For me, its well worth the roughly $150 per year (base subscription plus additional email addresses and iDisk storage).

Could I cobble all these features together from other services for less (or free)? Probably. But I'm satisfied with it all pre-packaged for me and nicely integrated into the OS and iApps.

i say mobileme is expensive because google offers push calendar and push contacts for FREE! so by getting mobileme youre paying $99 for push email. but if i was offered mobileme for free i would take it

good quesiton, never thought about that...
