It's in my release notes post - I've hidden it by default and you can show it again by hovering over the main navbar.
Okay, thanks. Sorry I missed that, I'm still working on my first cup of coffee this morning.

New version of Splitview: New split view: https://github.com/sammich/macrumors-spy-mod/raw/master/split.user.js (clicking on the link will ask for the update/install to occur).

Just some minor tidying up of code. I've added in version checking with an update notice.

And for the sake of disclosure, the mod now anonymously tracks unique users by default. There is an option to disable it at the bottom of the list of posts.

Delete or disable the old mod. It used to be called "Opinionated Improvement to MR Spy EXTRA!!!" which was, frankly, an unoriginal name. It is now more appropriately called "Split-view Macrumors Spy".

I just noticed that there are two MacRumors logos in the upper left...

Yeah. I just saw this, turns out I need to add a line to my update instructions:

Yep, I found that out and remedied it
Its all good now
Great work and greatly appreciated

I know others keep asking for tweaks, but I don't have any requests :)
Just happy to have the filters available

That fixed it. I deleted it and installed the latest one again.

Also, did you see this in a post of mine earlier?

Also, I noticed yesterday (on Firefox for Windows 8.1), that new alerts wouldn't show up in the little flag and I had to get out of the custom Spy screen to a normal MR page to get to the alerts.

Sorry I didn't reply to it directly. I remember checking to make sure it was working back then. I had moved it down to the bottom right of the icon some versions ago (it normally floats almost off screen).

I checked Safari/Chrome/FF on OS X, and FF on 8.1 Pro and it seems they're right where I left them. If you're still seeing the issue, can you send me a screenshot?

Okay so for instance, you just quoted me above and my flag alert in the upper right did not show with a red marker on it. I went to the Watched Threads link in the menu at the top and saw there was a reply to this thread. I clicked on it and it brought me to the appropriate post. That is where I saw that you quoted me, I just didn't get the flag marked red for it. Nor does it show anything new, such as your quote, when I click on the flag. To get the flag to be updated, I have to leave the custom Spy page and go to a normal MR page.

The temporary "You have an alert" message may have popped up in the lower left like normal, but I didn't notice it as I have been doing other things.

I'm not sure if the notifications are working all that well in any setting. I've got pages on spy and on a regular forum page in FF and Chrome. I've got a dummy account unfollowing/following me to get the notification marker up.

In all four pages, the notification doesn't load at all. If I refresh a page, the notification immediately shows up. Back on the other pages, opening the alerts popup won't load anything until you open/close it a few times and it actually refreshes.

Again, the alerts work perfectly the first time the page loads. I guess the problem might be that we're no longer reloading the spy at all, which makes it just so much more obvious.

I have not yet found time to try any of the more recent versions. In the meantime, just one observation:

… green dot is for …

The green dot already has another meaning.

(As I discourage use of multiple ambiguous cogs that have different meaning, so I should discourage multiple meanings of green dots.)

Keep up the great work √

Alright, I've worked around this. It really was a quirk of the way XenForo works. When you load a forum page, you will normally see the alert. Loading/seeing the page will automatically mark it as seen, and you won't see a count for that alert on any other page.

Now, since we're hiding that top section in the Spy, you'll see it for a flash and then not anymore. And the Spy-level page won't see the notification either. Opening the alert popup will trigger a fresh look up of new alerts. But only once per page load.

So, to cap the long explanation: I'll nab the alert counter from each inner page loaded and stick it up on the Spy level alert counter and reset the alert loader so that it actually updates.

I think that should do it.

And you should get that update notification, too :)

What meanings does the green dot have?

I've made some changes, and fixed some small bugs and bits here and there.

Threads load in the background now and fade in. This was done to remove the page shifting that happens as the page loads but the mod hasn't kicked in for the inner page (which would hide header and footer portions).

Feedback is, of course, very welcome.

I saw the little notification of an update to it this morning. Pretty neat.

However, after the update, when I'd click on a thread from the Unread Watched threads page, it would take me to the proper one from the first one I clicked on. Then when I went back to the Unread Watched threads page to go to the next thread, it took me back to the thread I viewed previously.

Can you tell me what version you're using right now? Scroll to the bottom of the live posts panel. There was an issue with clicking on threads inside the thread frame in a version I pushed out earlier today.

That must have been it. Earlier when I saw the problem, I had installed 0.9.2 and then right after I replied to you, I saw another update, 0.9.5 and installed that. I think, so far, that it's corrected the problem.

That was a hard one to track down, but basically, some part of the Xenforo init code wasn't firing and the responsive parts of the page weren't ready. So, I'm manually calling that now.

v0.9.6

I seem to have encountered a new issue with 0.9.6. Its on Windows and Firefox and I would bet it has to do with the latest build of FF too, 40.0.2. Though I cannot confirm if this existed in previous builds of FF or not, as I didn't pay that close of attention.

0.9.6 seems to be fine on OS X in Safari for me.

The Spy mod version number doesn't display at the bottom and when I click on forums.macrumors.com it displays only the right-hand pane and the center, where all the forums are supposed to be is blank.

Sometimes, when I click on Watched Threads, it doesn't work, despite getting the message "Loading: Watched Threads"

I've uninstalled the mod and re-installed it too with no change.

This is just a personal preference of mine FWIW, take it or leave it. I don't particularly care for the extra wide post seperating lines. I understand why, so that folks can distinguish between posts, but, again, for me only, they're a little too thick IMO. Plus I prefer the post count number on the right since that's where it's always been.

The current version should resolve your Firefox issues. Some other fixes and changes are bundled in as well, such as a link to the Forum's proper forum ignore functionality.
Thanks, I'll give it a try when I get to the office tomorrow.

For users of Tampermonkey, a hint

… Some early results …

My script customisations were unexpectedly lost. From http://apple.stackexchange.com/a/214990/8546 today:

http://tampermonkey.net/faq.php#Q106 explains how to export scripts, but I never imagined that losing (or removing) the database of extensions would also lose user data associated with any extension.

On FreeNAS I have ZFS snapshots of my home directory dating back to 2015-08-26, which might include the data (since switching from Safari to Firefox (and to PC-BSD) I have no idea when the loss occurred). If the scripting is unrecoverable, I'll survive :) but other users of Tampermonkey might be more concerned about fragility of data so I guess, the lesson should be:
  • do not assume that scripts will be easily recoverable from normal backup routines
  • pay attention to Tampermonkey advice about exporting scripts
  • backups should include at least one export.

Hey @sammich not sure what happened, but looks like this Mod broke for me in Chrome
I have reinstalled TamperMonkey and added the scripts back in but no joy
They are both there, but not running (says no scripts running) even tho one is turned on

Anyone else have this issue with the Mod?
I really really really liked having this, and I am extremely sad that it is broken for me now

Any thoughts to fix it would be appreciated
