Just ran across this, a video showing a man (*gasp*) wearing a blue modern buckle Apple Watch.

Funny thing is, the buckle doesn't strike me as odd at all here, but, what really stands out is the glossy nature of the leather. It's quite a contrast to the classic buckle leather and even more so to the larger leather loop band.

That glossy looking leather totally puts me off to it. Glossy, plasticky leather looks cheap to me. So that settles that for me, I guess.

This is pretty much the same thing that happened with the milanese band. The pics made it look nice, deep and warmly reflective. Then the REAL LIFE pictures and video showed it's just like all the other cheap looking milanese bands out there. Sparkly and weird looking, like a goth kid's home made chainmail.

Though, I suppose all of this could change when seen in person with one's own eyes and that's all the more reason to wait to decide until the items can be tried on.

I think that one of the more neutral colours would be better like the brown or the midnight blue or even the black.

I'm going for the soft pink. For me it's an everyday colour. :D

Thanks for the video!
I'm pretty interested in the modern buckles, too... But I just don't know which color to buy . Maybe I'll go with soft pink or black since I also don't like the shininess on midnight blue and brown.
I'm sharing some real life pics of the modern buckles, as I struggled finding any of them:

Doesn't look too bad on a man. The band does look shiny but that could just be the lighting.

I think it's the lighting. I doubt it's that shiny in natural light.

I don't wear much pink, but I'm really liking the soft pink in photos. Looks very nice and neutral. Feminine.

Agreed, the OP should try them on first.

One problem though. I really like the Modern Buckle, but as far as I can tell, it is only available with the 38mm models in SS or gold.

yeah apparently Apple has determined that the modern buckle is for women or men with small wrists.

Maybe, but, I've seen the other leather bands in the same lighting in other videos and they don't have that same sheen. I've seen plenty of different leather bands in real life and this kind of flatter, shinier finish is common.... amongst women's watch bands, belts, etc.

At any rate, I would probably decide on a second choice option just in case.

And the leather loop is only available in the 42mm size.

Agreed, it looks nice for a woman. I may get that one for my wife for an anniversary present this summer.

Context is pretty important too as you can tell from that picture of the dude in the blue sport coat and t-shirt wearing a 38mm with brown modern buckle alongside several bracelets. That's a basic casual on point look being pushed in this year's men's fashion circles. That band and watch blend into the general look fairly well.

You can't see the modern buckle clasp from that perspective though. The classic buckle would've looked exactly the same in that photo too. It's not the brown color that makes it feminine.
